Part 4: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

New thread again.

Thread 1 - started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Thread 2 - in which we mainly discussed Operation Protective Edge.

Thread 3 - in which we continued to discuss Operation Protective Edge, the wider conflict and international involvement.

Welcome to part 4, in which I hope it's not too much to ask that we stick to the MN Talk Guidelines Wink

As many people have asked about Syria, I'm pleased to say that a new discussion on that subject has been started (by another poster here.

A doctor from inside Gaza has appealed today for Antibiotics, other medicines and sterile gloves, children are being burned badly and they don't even have antiseptic cream for them. Ambulances are also being targeted, so they can't always get to the wounded.

Oh my goodness I'm shocked at the amount of lies in one post.
3 kids where kidnapped and killed in the West Bank by 2 known Hamas operatives.
Hamas never denied kidnapping the they just didn't take responsibility.
Israel arrested Hamas operatives to find where the 3 boys were.
A young Palestinian was murdered in revenge. His killers are standing trial and will likely be jailed for life.
Riots begin and some people get beaten up (then officers who beat them up also under investigation).
Hamas starts firing rockets at israel for 10 days without Israel doing anything. After 750 (!!!!) rockets Israel started responding. That number is now over 3000.
Get you facts straight. No one talked about cleansing. If Israel wanted to cleanse Gaza it could have done so a million times over.
Get over yourself and stop spreading lies and hatred.

I have to say I was also disgusted at Obama! I thought of all people he would step up. Spineless coward it's all about the oil with the Americans.

I must say Saadia, I've been very impressed with the Aussie sources. They don't seem to be as terrified of offending the Israeli state as others. I think one can also rely on The Independent to live up to its name and of course Channel 4 has been excellent.

Terrible to think of the ambulances being targeted OneStep.

This is such a disgusting sentiment. Especially after all the lives already taken, the death toll will only rise due to people living in fallen city. With out the right medical care attention and medicine.

Agree somewheresafe, Obama and Cameron have really shown their true colours. TBH I'm not surprised at Cameron, after all he had some pretty sickening views about Mandela originally, but Obama is a massive disappointment.

I agree regarding channel 4.

Can I ask why aren't media repotting on all the protests supporting Gaza.

There have been so many around the world hundreds of thousands of people. The way that I've come across all these protests in social media.

The reason the casualties are like that is because Hamas has spent the last 8 years since winning the election (democratically!) in underground tunnels and arms. They invested NOTHING in safeguard on their people. Israel on the otherhand has invested millions in defences for its people. Do you know that every house and flat built in Israel must have a secure fortified room against rockets as well as chemical and biological warefare? Where are all the millions that Hamas has received? Where are all the millions that the gaza people where supposed to receive? It's sitting on fortified tunnels with command centres, 10k rockets and underground generators. Nothing went to the Palestinian people. Nothing. Also, if you want to run the body count how about we do that. If Israel had not invested in securing and protecting its people the the over 3000 rockets fired at Israel (all at civilian population mind you) would have killed over 3000 people - much more than the Palestinians.

Of course it's a disgusting statement because it's my true. To even suggest that Israel wanted to cleanse the Gaza Strip is disgusting to begin with.

Saadia - I beg of you. You tell me what makes sense. If your home is being bombed. If your children are being bombed by an organisation that wants to kill you. What do you do. Please tell me. I want to know what you would do if you, yes you personally, had to protect your family against those who want to kill you.

All that needs to be done is to stop the rockets. The rockets were fired for 10 days straight before Israel began to respond back. 10 days and 750 rockets. These rockets are fired from houses, near schools and from hospitals. Yesterday alone a Norwegian journalist said on the news she witnessed it herself. The UN has already found 3 different UNRWA schools where Hamas had hidden rockets. 3 different UN schools! If you want to stop the killing of civilians then please don't launch rockets from within or near civilian population.

I don't believe you. Do you keno why? Because you where never in that situation. If someone was holding a gun to your head or holding a grenade and you are with your children you would shoot them back. And if they were holding a baby in their hands you still would.
You have no idea what it is like to be targeted by terror and until you do don't tell me with that level of certainty what you would and would not do.

Hamas doesn't want peace. Hamas wants to annihilate Israel. It's in it's charter. It says so every day. What peace? With whom? This is not the Palestinian Authority. Hamas is a terrorist organisation.
