Part 3: Israeli-Palestinian conflict

AndHarry · 26/07/2014 16:54

New thread as part 2 is nearly full.

Part 1 is here.

Part 1 was started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Part 2 is here.

In part 2 we mainly discussed the legality and human consequences of Operation Protective Edge.

no, there is no engaging with racists.

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 07:17

and note it always comes again, 'why don't their people take them'. apparently all arabs are lumped in together and palestinians should just be taken away by their own kind to save israel the trouble of having to kill them all.

it's like palestinians saying why don't those westerners take back their own or let them live in their countries so we don't have to deal with them.

why should palestinians be thrown out of their own country - how about just giving them their land back.

Backinthering · 31/07/2014 07:18

I've long thought that part of the reason the Palestinians get such a raw deal in terms of international support is islamophobia. They are majority Muslim therefore easy for Israel to sell the terrorist narrative in a post 9-11 world and especially in the US.

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 07:22

yep and easy to sell as 'someone else's problem' somehow it seems. like this endless 'why doesn't egypt take them' - well because they're another nation with massive problems of their own and it's not easy to take millions of refugees and actually why on earth should they cooperate in an ethnic cleansing of palestine? but apparently palestinians and egyptians are the same people surely 'cos they're all arabs and muslims so...?

it is such clear racism and contempt for the idea of people having their own land, their own nation and identity and every bloody right to have the land back that they've been forced off of and to be able to stay and be treated like human beings in their OWN land.

and somehow 'well someone should take them away then' means it's someone else's fault once again that israel is choosing mass murder. it's insane really. the brainwashing budget must be huge.

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 07:25

apart from which if you had gaza cleared of palestinians what do you want next? try for sinai again? who becomes the new enemy that needs clearing for the NEXT land grab and expansion?

no. people can't just open their borders and take away everyone you hate - that would make them complicit in a) your ethnic cleansing of palestine and b) leave them at risk of you further encroaching and causing violence on the NEXT buffer of people.

MTWTFSS · 31/07/2014 07:32

Both Israel and Egypt have blocked the borders of Gaza. So why is Hamas so intent on only the Israeli's opening up the borders? Why have they not gone after Egypt?

PigletJohn · 31/07/2014 07:36

MTWTFSS

You're on the wrong thread. This is the Israeli/Palestine one.

Rather than attempt to derail or divert, go and find the one about Egypt, or start one.

MTWTFSS · 31/07/2014 07:38

I do think what Israel is doing is wrong, but I also don't think the situation as a whole is as black and white as people are making out.

timbucktoo · 31/07/2014 07:43

Israel are blocking them from the land and sea.

Springheeled · 31/07/2014 07:44

Oh wow shirleypalmer you beauty- your post full of race hate shows the really vile islamophobia some Israeli apologists have.

timbucktoo · 31/07/2014 07:46

Palestine is occupied. End the occupation = Peace.
Remove the blockade of Gaza = Peace.
Allow Palestinians the right of return = Peace.
Compensation for the genocide like the Native Americans are now receiving from the US Govt., = Peace & Justice.

Springheeled · 31/07/2014 07:46

No MT, you wouldn't think 'the situation is as black and white as everyone makes out' would you?!

Maybe 'shirleypalmer' is the delightful Dame Shirley Porter - any other Londoners remember her? she was a thief. She stole people's houses. Oh, hang on, I'm getting a powerful sense of deja-vu'....

can't do links I'm afraid but I reckon that's who our lovely new friend is. Hi Shirley! Gotcha!

Backinthering · 31/07/2014 08:02

The mayor of Tower Hamlets was condemned by Jewish community leaders after he raised the Palestinian flag over the town hall. I think that's sad, why should a gesture of solidarity with beleaguered civilians be so apparently controversial?

Ugh yes Shirley Porter, didn't she try to cleanse the posher streets of London of unsightly types? Homes for votes? A real charmer.

Has anyone seen details of a 'flashmob' style protests, on fbook? I think it's a mum organising a kind of vigil outside parliament on Saturday, like a die in or something. It was an interesting idea. I can't go to London this Sat- but fortunately there is a local event here so I won't feel quite so useless and frustrated.

wannabestressfree · 31/07/2014 08:20

If we have evidence that people are political trolling can we direct to mumsnet and them sort it out. I have reported posters for name calling and accusations of troll and I have also reported threads that are islamophobic.

I thank those who are capable of real honest debate with fact. It has certainly given me food for thought and I have dug into information that has been posted on here.

Pigletjohn I do find it ironic you tell another poster to start their own thread when you did the exact same thing!

Can we please be mindful and respectful of the fact that this is a highly emotive subject and that we may not share options but we share a common purpose in hoping a resolution is found....

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 08:25

my flag arrived in the post today and i must find a way to hang it from the front of my house.

still love the idea of every home and business in the country who supports palestine flying the flag. little impact here in a village but imagine whole streets in london flying palestinian flags?

i'm still spinning on the logic that israel herds people into an open air prison and blockades them and periodically goes in and bombs the hell out of them from air, sea and land and it's another countries fault for not 'taking them off their hands'. it's like suggesting that france was to blame for the nazi holocaust because they should have let all the jews go there. it's insane.

thecatfromjapan · 31/07/2014 08:26

That sounds interesting SpringheeledJack.

Also, is there anyone else thinking of going to the vigil outside the Israeli Embassy (South Kensington) on Friday (5.30)?

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 08:26

the murder of thousands of civilians is emotive yes. the condemnation of it shouldn't be - it should be a normal human reflex.

thecatfromjapan · 31/07/2014 08:28

That should be High Street Kensington.

You'd think that, as a former goth post-punk modernist, there would be no way I would ever get that wrong!

TheHoneyBadger · 31/07/2014 08:35

are we reaching the end of this thread? 924 messages - am i imagining it's a 1000 message limit or is that right?

halfdrunkcoffee · 31/07/2014 08:39

HB a lot of Jews in WW2 did go to France and they were deported from there to concentration camps.

PigletJohn · 31/07/2014 08:41

Yes, I certainly hope that we share a common purpose in seeing an end to the killing and maiming of thousands, most of whom are non-combatants, and many are children. There can surely be relatively few people who support this slaughter.

One thing I cannot understand.

Israel has tried to bring peace before by shelling and bombing the Palestinians. For some reason it has not brought peace and amity. Instead the policy of slaughter has increased resistance.

Having found an approach that has repeatedly failed, why does Israel insist on repeating the same approach? Does it think that an approach which has repeatedly failed will suddenly start to work?
