Calls to include the Armed services in the inquiry

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29548308

GarlicOctopus · 10/10/2014 01:51

Good lord, I'd forgotten the armed services have their own legal system! I'm delighted the RAF introduced civilian jury members, and that this former officer's been found guilty of 23 offences. How many must he have actually carried out?!

GarlicOctopus · 14/10/2014 23:21

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of the Dorset man ... if anything Hmm Hope he talks!

I do actually feel (a bit) sorry for the police. The numbers of known offenders are now so vast, they'd need to pull officers off all other work to make decent inroads. But, as people keep pointing out, they're letting the main drivers of abuse go untouched: those 'high level' abusers; the gang leaders & traffickers; the child 'care' bosses. This is unforgivable.

"I told them young girls were being abused but they didn't listen or resource the investigation," the officer said.

"They were only interested in target crimes: robbery, burglary and car theft.

"Because this kind of crime is difficult to prosecute and didn't show up quickly on crime figures they weren't interested."

Well, the targeting and the auditing had better change quickly, then, hadn't they?

WhistlingPot · 15/10/2014 09:49

Absolutely.

What are they thinking?

If a second person can evidence the alleged PIE MP kingpin then I will be naming him in Parliament ( not a name already out there)

[[http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2799772/spies-covered-sex-abuse-teen-girls-hands-ira-leader-blackmailed-spying-them.html British secret services blackmailed an IRA leader to spy for them after he was allegedly caught abusing a 14-year-old girl.

Chief of staff Joe Cahill was photographed by a covert unit in his car but never prosecuted - instead he was convinced to share secrets about the IRA's leadership, it was claimed today.]]

Independent Panel Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse now has a website:

childsexualabuseinquiry.independent.gov.uk/

Very interesting. Panel and Terms of Reference have been formed.

"No" to Kincora or Jersey being included. England and Wales only. Kincora has it's own specific inquiry (The Hart, I think it is called) but no mention that I can see of Jersey.

Woolf has written to Teresa May outlining why she feels she has no personal association with Britton and does not see herself as a member of the establishment.

Fiona Woolf gives evidence on historic child abuse:

Does seem to squirm a bit.

THREE THOUSAND children went missing in greater manchester this year Shock Shock abused!

claig · 30/10/2014 01:03

It's outrageous. What on earth is going on? Who is in charge?

"More than 3,000 children under the age of 18 have been reported missing in Greater Manchester this year, according to a new report.

It reveals the scale of youngsters at risk from sex grooming gangs a nd states that children are in danger of "falling off the radar" because of poor communications between children's homes, local councils and police, according to its author, Stockport Labour MP Ann Coffey."

Also in the news a nationwide hunt for a woman accused of pimping out a schoolgirl but no man in that town has ever been prosecuted?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2813239/Woman-child-sex-offender-plied-schoolgirl-cocaine-pimped-van-hiding-seaside-massage-parlour.html

There seems to be open women hating going on, as well as abuse, and yet women are not standing up and demanding action! Only the easy targets get prosecuted the ones in power seem to be untouchable.

Fiona Woolf: Abuse victims call for inquiry head to quit

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-29844612

WhistlingPot · 31/10/2014 22:10

Wow.

I was surprisingly impressed with Vaz's insistence that the original draft of Woolf's letter was scrutinised properly. That seemed quite a major turning point to me.

Tom Watson is saying not to hound May, but I have to say it is hard not to.

Who was responsible for suggesting/deciding the amendments to the letter, if not May?

nauticant · 31/10/2014 22:26

Who was responsible for suggesting/deciding the amendments to the letter, if not May?

It would be a senior civil servant. There is no way May would be actively overseeing exchanges of numerous drafts of this kind of letter. It is possible that she might have been copied in on a final version but I have my doubts about that.

However, May's general handling of this has been woeful. I'm also astonished at Woolf colluding in manipulating the presentation of her association with Brittan. That shows a lack of judgement that is simply inexplicable and that alone should have ruled her out immediately.

As I see this, the concept of the inquiry was flawed from the start. The inquiry has been framed to be so broad that a forensic and thorough investigation into the individual strands will simply not happen and if there's ever a final report it won't say much beyond "here are a handful of individuals (mostly dead) who we're throwing to the wolves but the overall conclusion is that we are, in a very real sense, ALL to blame".

WhistlingPot · 31/10/2014 23:43

Yes, it does make you query exactly who was involved in toning it down.

Tom Watson is very pro May's support for a proper inquiry.

Yvette Cooper is highly critical.

Not sure what to think anymore. Sad

I hope Garlic is ok. Not seen her posting for a while.

Have been reading this thread and all the links. God - am truly horrified by how widespread this is. The Belgium link is so so shocking. How is this going on under our noses?!

Ladyleia · 01/11/2014 21:25

Just been reading about Melanie Shaw, a survivor from one of the Nottingham homes that Samantha Morton was at. She has been sentenced without evidence if this report is true..... www.neonnettle.com/news/1304-paedophile-ring-whistleblower-melanie-shaw-sentenced-without-evidence-

Ladyleia · 01/11/2014 21:49

Sorry for the many posts tonight - have now got urge to do something (although don't know what!).

When I first arrived in London in the late 90s, I took a black cab where the driver was telling all sorts of tales. He was talking about how members of the then Tory govt were paedophiles. So when I read this report (although obviously I don't know how truthful it is), I was not surprised to find their names on there. I had also heard rumours about one of our previous PMs. Anyway, take a read and see what you think....

I doubt the credibility of some of those stories on the last link there-

Ive never heard of GB ever before being linked to any abuse- the others though.......
