What a dignified reply, scandip. You're not at all obnoxious! I didn't know MPD was more prevalent in the USA, but we certainly have our own quota and the Belgian X-witnesses had that diagnosis. It causes difficulties with evidence gathering, particularly if investigators choose to bully the witness as happened there. (The first police team had specially trained examiners; they were replaced by untrained officers and witnesses withdrew.) Your comment about 'hysteria' is illuminating.

I agree, Born. Fingers crossed for her.

scandip · 06/09/2014 13:28

I was being too terse before! I generally agree with your points and so my arsey tone was not needed!

I wasn't aware there were so many cases in the UK. I did my dissertation about 15 years ago, so I think I have forgotten a lot of it. I think I am using the old name. It is dissociative identity disorder now. I wonder if there is difficulty diagnosing it as some people have the diagnosis changed sometimes. Sometimes behaviour may be similar to bipolar or schizophrenia. My bio Mum was diagnosed with the latter and I often wonder if she was abused.

The women diagnosed with hysteria sometimes told stories of abuse, which were dismissed as just that and were sometimes abused by their therapists. Although the confines of a Victorian lady's life could make anyone 'hysterical'!

What do you think of the new appointment? I'm still concerned about establishment links. Did you read Tom Watson's webchat?

SantanaBinLorry · 07/09/2014 14:46

i'm not conviced woolfe is the right person. too close to the establishment, too many links. i sense more stalling tactics.

Oh dear.

Re thedevilinside's comments at 9:48 on 5th September.

I've read that politics and management/banking have a much higher percentage of sociopaths/ psychopaths. When I say management, I mean at the very top- board members, senior civil servants, CEOs etc.

Maybe when you're in a position to make decisions that detrimentally affect peoples lives, you lose empathy. Or you do this on a daily basis, not caring about people- just the profit. It must be people like this who were in clubs mentioned in Belgium.

thedevilinside · 08/09/2014 10:43

Yes, and in the entertainment business too, hence JS, RH and the others. My thought is that there will always be people carrying out these horrific acts as a certain percentage of the population is psychopathic/sociopathic.

GarlicSeptimus · 08/09/2014 11:11

It's not right that they're protected, though! The sheer volume of this abuse is terrifying - if it becomes hard to get away with it, it should at least reduce to the level of most other dirty secrets.

I keep thinking about the hundreds of thousands - or millions - of victims who've told, only to be dismissed & punished. Heartbreaking.

CarpetBagger · 08/09/2014 12:02

What alarms me, is after all of this, If, and I do not, I had abuse to report, where do I go now?

If children are being targeted in care homes still, where do they go?

Where do parents go if their child is being targeted by a grooming gang?

CarpetBagger · 08/09/2014 12:04

At this level of society they will all be linked in one way or another, the world becomes a small place when you are in the upper echelons of it.

I am not sure what the answer is.

thedevilinside · 08/09/2014 16:10

The trouble is money talks, and these individuals are likely to be rich and/or well connected, so they are almost untouchable or so it seems, obviously a few celebrity ones have been found out plus the odd dead politician

GarlicSeptimus · 08/09/2014 18:29

Big question, isn't it ... What's Fiona Woolf going to do when reading evidence against someone who was at her family Christmas do last year? Or the person she meets for a fortnightly gossip about the legal business?

As a cynical old bag, I'm wondering whether she was selected as unlikely to rock the boat much. This is your chance to really make history by vastly improving many lives, Ms Woolf! How do you want to be remembered?

KnittedJimmyChoos · 13/09/2014 11:23

I think the police are chasing down the Asian gangs who have been walking free. Fingers crossed across the board its all coming out.

MoneyQuestion2014 · 14/09/2014 19:24

I know this article is about the US but thought you all might be interested anyway.

wildstrawberryplace · 14/09/2014 21:47

Actress Samantha Morton has just spoken out about her own experience of sexual abuse in care homes in Nottingham and her conviction that it went to the highest levels within social services. In the light of Rotherham she felt compelled to speak out.

Interview here (The Guardian)

what is wring with this police force, what on earth is going on Confused

bunchoffives · 24/09/2014 07:56

And it is still going on.

What I think beggars belief is that this could have happened without other people being aware of it in the hospital.

How could this doctor get the opportunity to abuse and assault 18 boys (and no doubt many more)? Surely, other staff were aware.

There is no way on earth I would allow my child to be left alone with anyone at anytime in a hospital now.

"Police chiefs blocked a paedophile probe into a top politician 25 years ago, one of the country’s most senior officers said yesterday.

Derbyshire Chief Constable Mick Creedon was serving as a detective sergeant in Leicestershire when allegations surfaced against Labour MP Greville Janner in 1989.

Mr Creedon said he was ordered to limit his inquiries into the MP, now Lord Janner of Braunstone.

He was forbidden from arresting the politician or searching his home, despite ‘credible evidence’ that warranted further investigation.

The BBC still don't get it www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/bbc/11122213/Convicted-sex-offender-Jonathan-King-to-appear-in-BBC-documentary.html

Bastard has always refused to apologise. I haven't had a tv licence for 2 years now as I refuse to support the BBC. I don't miss it, Netflix is more than enough for us. Vote with your feet and stop buying a licence.

kissmyheathenass · 26/09/2014 12:55

Christ, that dr at Addenbrookes. Is every man who has access to children as part of a chosen career a latent paedophile? I'm beginning to think so Sad. I have never subscribed to the "all men are rapists" pov but now I'm beginning to wonder are they all capable of child abuse?

WhistlingPot · 28/09/2014 22:14

Seems a right royal shambles.

Is she/isn't she going to make a statement?

www.exaronews.com/articles/5373/fiona-woolf-faces-calls-to-declare-links-with-leon-brittan-fully

bunchoffives · 01/10/2014 23:49

"To appoint someone who has such close links to Leon Brittan is at best
crass stupidity or it is a sign that the government has no intention of allowing
a truly independent inquiry."

There you are. Zac Goldsmith is as establishment as they come. He understands how the elite operate.

This is his clear statement of the contempt with which the government know they can treat the people at large. They know that this topic is now yesterday's fishnchips wrapper. The public are apathetic and the elite know it and must laugh up their sleeves and the stupid plebs.

Bitter, moi? Sad

GarlicOctopus · 05/10/2014 14:52

I haven't been able to face this topic for some time. I'm still thinking about it, though, and do not want the issue to die whilst yet another biased inquiry takes place.

claig · 05/10/2014 22:28

"Twelve more public figures including senior policeman and politicians are being investigated over claims of historic sex abuse, sources have revealed.
...
Williams Thomas, a child protection expert, said: 'I know of another twelve public figures and that is a minimum.

'Sadly some of these people still remain un-touchable because they are so powerful. Whilst huge progress has been made following Savile expose - some very powerful people still need to be brought to justice.'
...
'It just takes one person brave enough to come forward. Then, as the investigations start to unfold, more victims tell their stories,' Mr Williams Thomas added.

'The names I have supplied are senior police officers, politicians, local authority officials and senior civil servants - people with a lot to lose.

'After Savile I got letter bombs and death threats. That's nothing compared to what you will get with politicians and the like.

'There will be dirty games played, a campaign to undermine those investigations. The only way to do it is through a proper inquiry, to have properly skilled investigators to dig out more evidence."
