A new thread following on from the previous one in Chat here

Hello hello

Thanks v much for flagging Simon Danczuk's tweet.

We do have a webchat with a Major Relevant Figure (not SD though) lined up for next week - we'll be announcing it soon.

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 11:16

[Leon Brittan] was allegedly named in the dossier. - Was he? Forgive me for seeming to turn your own weapon against you, but by whom? I thought everybody was pretending to have completely forgotten who was on it; if some of the recipients have given names, their suggestions must have been published - can you give me any links, please?

That aside, I imagine Dickens could have been compelled to hand it over no matter who was on it. He was apparently targeted by a professional assassin, so must have hit a few solid gold nails on the head. As an MP he could hardly refuse to give criminal evidence to the Home Secretary when required.

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 11:18

Oooh, exciting news, Rowan! Will you be talking to Simon as well?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 26/08/2014 11:41

Its cliff isnt it?

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 12:13

Shock Grin Beyond.

scandip · 26/08/2014 13:46

Glad to hear it Rowan. About time really. Their silence on this so far has been appalling. Please call on Mumsnet HQ to get behind this and call for an independent nquiry and justice for those abused. They really should be making more nuse on something of this magnitude.

Just on BBC News:

At least 1,400 children were subjected to "appalling" sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, a report has found.

Children as young as 11 were raped by multiple perpetrators, abducted, trafficked to other cities in England, beaten and intimidated, it said.

The report, commissioned by Rotherham Borough Council, revealed there had been three previous inquiries.

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 16:37

The inquiry team found examples of "children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness brutally violent rapes and threatened they would be next if they told anyone".

On the radio they gave an example who had been set fire after multiple rapes and being trafficked.

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 16:39

... and, you know what? Well done, Rotherham! This is not limited to just one town - but it's the only one that's commissioned and published an honest inquiry.

cupofsneeze · 26/08/2014 16:43

I'm watching it on Sky news now Shock

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 16:45

Let's hear all the denial now Angry

cupofsneeze · 26/08/2014 16:50

The woman interviewed on Sky didnt say if the police officers/social workers involved in ignoring the scale of this are going to be held publicly accountable.

Have the BBC said anything?

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 16:59

God knows, they can't fire everybody. Sufficient evidence for prosecutions will be hard to find. The council leader resigned.

cupofsneeze · 26/08/2014 17:04

I've just read the DM, no one will be held accountable within the council but the big boss has quit.

No mention of the police who have been proven to have failed yet again.

What is their agenda, why ignore it, they must have their own children, its just shockingConfused

Greenrememberedhills · 26/08/2014 19:39

There were questions raised in the Rotherham report about how perpetrators knew that a SA victim had entered a police station before they had been able to file a report. The victim withdrew her allegations, as she received a text there and then threatening her younger sister.

Greenrememberedhills · 26/08/2014 19:40

I think the report publishes sufficient to demonstrate that the police in Rotherham behaved appallingly, whether by accident or design.

catellington · 26/08/2014 20:04

This is absolutely horrific

What does anyone think about the timing of this relative to the Cliff Richard search?

See towards the end of this letter

news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/22_08_14_keith_vaz_letter.pdf

GarlicAugustus · 26/08/2014 20:48

Somebody else told the BBC? I'm not sure which bit you referred to, or how it's connected - my inner conspiracy theorist has Norovirus!

catellington · 26/08/2014 21:12

Sorry, was multi tasking. I mean that the Rotherham report which is damning on s Yorkshire police was published so soon after they carried out the search on CR's house. There was talk on either this thread or the CR one about the fact the search was leaked to the BBC and whether it was being carried out to mask something else. Then I read the letter to Keith Vaz and the second last para even mentions this (and denies it).

cupofsneeze · 26/08/2014 21:48

Its like watching some sort of game play between the BBC, police and Government.

Its a shame they dont put as much effort into protecting children as they do in trying to throw each other under the bus to save their own necks Hmm

GarlicAugustus · 27/08/2014 20:51

For some stupid reason, I hadn't twigged that Rotherham's in South Yorkshire! I blame the virus. It's not been a good week for Shaun Wright & David Crompton.

GarlicAugustus · 28/08/2014 00:36

Re-posting this from the Rotherham thread:

Nottingham witness 'Melanie Shaw', who was among abused children at Beechwood House, was arrested on a charge of vandalism, which she denies, and is being held in Peterborough prison, where she has been bullied and molested. Her child has been taken from her. Today her bail application was denied in a closed court. The Mckenzie Friend who'd travelled from Plymouth to support her application was refused access to the hearing.

There's a petition for her release here.

Several other witnesses are in a similar predicament.

WhistlingPot · 28/08/2014 19:24

This just seems to get worse. Sad

Glad to see MN have someone lined up for a webchat though.

kissmyheathenass · 28/08/2014 20:29

Just catching up with this thread after being away. Interesting stuff on internet about Jack Straw trying to gag children in care from speaking out back in 2009 - I will try and establish what is fact and and hopefully post more.

As an aside, I saw a children's t-shirt for sale today in Palma airport - splashed across the chest were the words "I wish these were brains!". FFS, what the fuck is wrong with people. Who thinks this is ok? Angry

TheAmyrlin · 30/08/2014 09:54

I've just read some of the link GarlicAugustus posted about Belgium & Dutroux.
It's just horrific. How can they do that to anyone!!

I hope it all doesn't get brushed under the carpet here, and there is an independent enquiry.
