So, bubble, how's the pregnancy?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/03/2006 21:46

Oatcakes are about the closest you'll get here. But they have to be with cheese which I suppose is a no-no too!

spidermama · 27/03/2006 21:47

Sorry saggar I called you 'sugar'.

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 21:48

Also slow but sure. Grin I am feeling fine, thanks Uwila. I got so worried yesterday that I was feeling so fine that I re-tested, just in case I'd been dreaming. Glass half-empty, eh??!

CHICagoMUM · 27/03/2006 21:49

Will do bubble (take care of yourself).

CHICagoMUM · 27/03/2006 21:50

Wanted to add to the conversation you posted on a few days ago.

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 21:51

Glass of organic semi-skimmed milk, half-empty. Grin

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 21:51

Oooooh! Which one??

CHICagoMUM · 27/03/2006 21:52

No, its not the news you are thinking (goodness woman how quick do you think that could be Grin ).

Uwila · 27/03/2006 21:57

Okay, what are you guys talking about??????

mojomummy · 27/03/2006 21:59

Ooh it's exploded...

well the old lady who drinks her pint of milk is very probably on brittle bones now - if you want the truth - of course that won't be the case if she does regular sessions ( 3 x 30 mins) of strength training & a plenty of vitamin D.

Enid, what makes you think I don't know what toddlers need ? Do you think that full fat milk is the only answer ? What about a good honest nut loaf, filled with seeds ( therefore essential fatty acids ) avocado sandwiches, cashew & tomato soup ? the list is endless - milk is not the be all & end all.

BTW, excellent link spidermama

But you'll surely admit that it's a very accessible and affordable source of calcium which is popular and palatable for most people?

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 22:03

I didn't feel an explosion either, lockets. I think this is/has been one of mnet's more rational and intelligent debates. Except for the turnips, of course. Grin

hannahsaunt · 27/03/2006 22:05

Much as I hate to be veering towards the MM camp anecdotally I know that milk isn't the be all and end all for bone strength. We are all confirmed carnivores in our house but my granny, my mum and I don't like milk. My granny was 87 when she died having eaten less dairy than I ever thought possible for a non vegan. Her bones seemed fine - she did a lot of walking, paid absolutely no attention to her diet, was run over by a bus at age 84 and her worst injury (apart from extensive bruising and scrapes) was a dislocated toe - how many elderly ladies would have survived that with nothing broken? I have a dairy allergy and although it's now better than it was as a child I have a very restricted dairy intake and can't bear the taste of milk. I do consider my calcium intake and will get density checked when I'm older but evidence shows weight bearing exercise makes a significant difference so will carry on with that. Milk isn't the be all at all (and the boys have organic for health reasons)

Uwila · 27/03/2006 22:05

I agree Bubble. So what kind of lovely milk do you serve at your nurseries?

monkeytrousers · 27/03/2006 22:05

Well I think just to clear this up and make reparations to all those who she's offended HMM should spend all day pumping and then bottle and pasteurise the results - carry on the Linda tradition, don't y think? grin]

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 22:07

Lovely organic full fat, Uwila. Smile Except for two vegan children who have soya milk/yoghurt/margarine etc.

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 22:08

Grin MT. Only at full moon though, when she's wearing Linda's old frocks.

Mercy · 27/03/2006 22:09

My mother has to take calcium tablets because her daily intake is lowish (she has a thyroid problem)plus she is 66

My brother has mild/moderate allergies and has found that almost zero dairy intake improves his hay fever/asthma/eczema.

different strokes etc even within hte same family

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 22:10

I agree that weight bearing exercise is essential. My mum only stopped roller-blading last year.

CHICagoMUM · 27/03/2006 22:12

OMG just had this fabulous image of my mum on roller blades Grin .

Uwila · 27/03/2006 22:13

Well, I love my skimmed milk and lots of cheeses. Couldn't live without them.

CHICagoMUM · 27/03/2006 22:14

All joking aside, I do worry about dd's lack of calcium intake (as she refuses milk/chees/yoghurt) I have ended up using tropicana calcium enriched OJ (but worry about the effect on her teeth).

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 22:17

Scary [shock} She's reverted to swimming now, which isn't weight bearing. She's a lot fitter than I am and eats Greek yoghurt every morning. Blush Smile
