She has more mad ideas than any woman I have ever known.

mmm milk, ice cream, milk chocolate

argargargarg drool ...

expatinscotland · 27/03/2006 15:33

I have to say, however, I do agree w/Heather and Macca on their stand against the disgusting cruelty that is the Canadian seal hunt. What a disgrace! Absolutely revolting.

Enid · 27/03/2006 15:45

mmmm seals

argargarg drool...

paolosgirl · 27/03/2006 15:46

My Uncle from Canada bought over a tin of seal meat once....I think we still have it, somewhere. Tinned seal, anyone?

monkeytrousers · 27/03/2006 16:19

It's the mainstream media that portray her badly because she refuses to jump though hoops for them. That many people are all too eager to suspend their critical faculties and believe it is pretty nasty. She's not mad or bad, just as non of us can be reduced to such an idiotic 2D label.

paolosgirl · 27/03/2006 16:34

She jumps through hoops when it suits her to have media attention though...she can't have it both ways.

bubble99 · 27/03/2006 16:59

The power of celebrity endorsement is well known and this is what really concerns me in this case. A lot of damage could be done to a lot of young bones if parents really do think that they need to abandon dairy products on the say so of Macca's wife, especially without being given an accessible alternative.

She also really p's me off. Wink

quanglewangle · 27/03/2006 17:06

Well said bubble. Celebrity endorsement is usually a cause for concern.

And I wouldn't buy a second hand car from her. Her (alleged) blurring of fact and fiction reminds me of a certain Mr Archer.

Freckle · 27/03/2006 17:11

I saw her on Parkinson some time ago and she came across as very bitter and totally humourless. There had been some speculation about her and McC having a baby and she said that, because of cancer, the chances of her having a baby were zero to infinitesimal. And then look what happened. The other guests on the show were a comedian who had the audience in stitches, but HMM didn't even crack a smile. Sad person.

quanglewangle · 27/03/2006 17:19

Freckle, I saw that too. She came across as feeling very sorry for herself and hard done by. Bitter is exactly the right word. Her face ought to look pretty but her sulky expression just made her look sour.

CarolinaMoon · 27/03/2006 17:26

For someone who's not mad, she does a pretty good job of coming across as a total fruit loop in every interview she does.

I couldn't help sniggering at this surreal image from her website though Grin:

"[HM's dad] used his young children like slaves; we began working for him from a very young age, helping him to realise his dream of staging an animated version of Richard Wagner’s “Ring Cycle”. We were frequently forced to stay awake well into the night, cutting up slides"

monkeytrousers · 27/03/2006 17:53

Erm, if I had half of the bad publicity as her, and was aware of even half of the bad will (such as displayed on this site)against me, I'd be pretty humourless too - it called being paranoid.
And as for "she can't have it both ways" - another maxim touted by the media to justify all kinds of spurious investigation and intrusion into peoples private lives.

She isn't one of the vacuous publicity grabbing divas of the OK, Hello crowd - it might rub is she was, but she isn't.

Why is no one even prepared to the tiniest degree to analyse their behaviour in this issue?

theshrimp · 27/03/2006 18:08

When you see a photo of Heather mills McCartney, do you always look at her legs to try and spot the prosthetic one?
Wink
or am I the only evil one here?

monkeytrousers · 27/03/2006 18:32

I have no doubt that if I was remotely famous you'd all hate me as well! Sad

Tinker · 27/03/2006 18:35

Well, when did the bad publicity start? By whom and why? And don't just say "the media". She was feted as heroic when she lost her leg, she was a media darling. But she still came across as miserable, humourless and unlikeable.

Plus, she's started to ape Macca's facial expressions I've noticed.

CarolinaMoon · 27/03/2006 18:39

sorry, I'm just not buying this only-misogynists-could-find-HM-repellent thing.

She is barmy.

Orlando · 27/03/2006 18:46

When she was still in hospital after her accident she phoned Max Clifford.

Nuff said.

Kathy1972 · 27/03/2006 18:57

Naked ambition - can't bear her.
However, she has clearly made Paul McCartney happy after he's gone through a lot of tragedy so good luck to them.

I am not worried about the milk thing as I can't believe she is a favourite role model among today's teenagers. Wink

monkeytrousers · 27/03/2006 19:16

Naked ambition - erm, off the top of my head..Helen Mcarthur, Paula Radcliffe, who else? Or are women not supposed to be ambitious?

I'm not trying to get any ones back up, just saying if you know her and have some personal reason to dislike her then fair enough. She's made no bones about he fact that she was a pretty mixed up kid and young women, and I can actually relate to that - I was pretty mixed up and a bit of a fantasist in my twenties as well. Sometimes I (shock horror) even told lies - sometimes I still do!! I don't know anyone who doesn't!

I have a few mutual friends with her, though I've never met her and since I moved away from London I don't see them, but every one of them describes as her as an absolute scream with a very dirty and crude sense of humour - not the humourless ice queen she's always described as. She's a tough woman who (I hope) has developed a think skin, just like Linda had to. I'm not even saying she might not be a bitch - all I'd add is well, FFS, who isn't sometimes? She doesn't deserve all this pure hatred though - save it for Anthea Turner please

monkeytrousers · 27/03/2006 19:18

Oh and really, if any parent suddenly stopped feeding their kids all dairy products because HM wants a debate about it is quite mad frankly. Her suggestions don't absolve parents of responsibility - that's taking it a bit far down the slippery slope.

Kathy1972 · 27/03/2006 19:21

OK MT, fair point about ambition. To clarify: what I find unappealing is the ambition to be famous without any particular talent underlying it.

Ellen McArthur and Paula Radcliffe can actually do something, not just being blonde and marrying someone rich. I admire Ellen McA. particularly because she has stretched people's views of what women can be good at.

Kathy1972 · 27/03/2006 19:23

Also, I would disagree with your assumption that everyone tells lies, MT - I don't think it's true of everyone. (Most of us, maybe, but not everyone).

Agree that we should not panic about her dairy campaign though Smile

Nightynight · 27/03/2006 19:23

goodness, kathy, did you miss the Ellen McArthur thread last year, when loads of people popped up and confessed to hating her....

but see your point re ambition with no particular talent.

and the milk thing is not worth worrying about, because she actually has a good point or two hidden under the over-simplification.

Kathy1972 · 27/03/2006 19:27

Was not on Mumsnet last year, Nightynight, but thanks for mentioning the Ellen McA thread - will search the archives when I have a moment and read it Smile.
Hope your rhinitis is better by the way, N.

Nightynight · 27/03/2006 19:28

thank you
it has been going since Christmas. Did manage without a handkerchief today though, it must be the warm spring weather.
