Is this just a another shit example of the selfish society? Could the bus driver or one of the other passengers not just given her the 20p she needed for her fare?

TheDreadedFoosa- rubbish yourself, it is people like yourself, with that attitude who are letting the country go to the dogs.
Next time you see someone in need help them and maybe you will learn something from it

pumpkinsweetie · 09/06/2012 13:12

Are people so 'tight' that they won't give away 20p ?

KalSkirata · 09/06/2012 13:13

'rubbish yourself. You don't throw someone off the last bus of the night, to walk alone, for 20p. She was clearly being placed in danger'

Quite Edam. It was 3am, below freezing and dark. Those conditions in themselves are risky. Those reasons should be sufficient for someone to stump up 20 bloody pence. Not whether our streets are safe to walk. (which generally they arent. In this city you'd be harrassed by drunken yobs) It was 3am ffs.

scottishmummy · 09/06/2012 13:13

rubbish
the driver and passengers could have known or predicted the rape would occur and the fact no one gave her the 20p isn't causal.at all
the rapist was the perpetrator, he and solely he is responsible

scottishmummy · 09/06/2012 13:18

the driver and passengers couldn't have known the rape would occur

Babbitt1 · 09/06/2012 13:18

I live 5 minutes away from were this attack taken place and regularly use it as a cut through to the city centre, however i always have my wits about me and never have headphones while walking through even in broad daylight as it has desolate alleyways and at night there is very poor lighting and is poorly covered by cctv.
I think the bus driver does have alot to anser for to be honest. If it was his daughter would he of wanted her refused onto the bus? Yes this man could of potentially just attacked somebody else but realistaclly what other young women would of been around for him to attack at that time of the morning?
He helped to give this attacker the perfect oppurtunity.
The other part to this story is that the victim's mother was in the back of the police car when they discovered her as she had been driving slowly up and down the main road looking for her daughter and police suspected her to be drunk. They were then alerted by this man who claimed to have just found her and directed them to her.
If they wouldnt of found her she would of probably lost her life that night due to her injuries and her body being found naked in sub zero temperatures. She has been very lucky to have recovered even though the physcological impact will probably stay with her for life.

KalSkirata · 09/06/2012 13:18

they knew it was 3am and freezing and dark. Thats what should have been in their heads.

scottishmummy · 09/06/2012 13:22

given neither you nor I were on said bus, it's speculation what was thoughts or going on in head of the driver or passengers

KalSkirata · 09/06/2012 13:24

clearly not the fact it was 3am and freezing cold or the woman was in distress. Or someone would have done something with 20p. I think I can speculate that.

bumbleymummy · 09/06/2012 13:25

Scottish, does it matter that they didn't know it would have happened. It should have been fairly obvious that anything could have happened and it wasn't a very nice situation to be left in. Would any of them have liked being left off the bus at 3am?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2012 13:25

scottishmummy - would you be happy for your daughter , if you had one, I know not if you do, to walk home at 3am along deserted streets? Seriously? Or would you hope someone would give her 20p.

scottishmummy · 09/06/2012 13:27

shocking violent rape of course it's dreadful
fault of a depraved man
I hope the woman us debriefed, supported and can recover

pumpkinsweetie · 09/06/2012 13:32

I dont believe the passengers, including the driver didn't have a spare 20p.
Anyone with any respect for fellow humans would have gave her 20p and realised how dark and cold it was & spared a thought for her saftey at such an hour

prettybird · 09/06/2012 13:34

Would you want your daughter or son - or your mother or father - or your best friend - to be put off a bus in the middle of the night for the want of 20p?

claig · 09/06/2012 13:37

It was 3 am , it was the last bus. She searched her pockets for 8 minutes, she had £4.80, but was 20p short. It must have been obvious that no one would try to cheat a driver of 20p at 3 am, and that she didn't have the money. She offered to go to a cashpoint, she said her mother would pay at the other end. It was 3 am, it was the last bus, it was a sub-zero temperature, she was on her own, and it seems she was not allowed to take a seat. Unbelievable.

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/06/2012 13:54

if i were that girls mother, after i saw the piece of shit that committed the rape go down for a nice long stretch, i would want to hunt every single one of the bastards on that bus down.

i would want to rub there faces in the photos. i would want those images burned into their retinas.

maybe if people saw what happens when they act like this, then maybe it would just nudge peoples consciences to be a little nicer to each other. its not rocket science that if you turn a blind eye to someone being in a dangerous situation, that something dangerous may happen to them.

given the weather conditions, the time, the fact she was alone, and was only short of 20p - i find it quite it quite incredulous that she was turned off the bus.
i think its incredible in this day and age that a girl was raped for the sake of 20p.

People should face the consequences of their actions that night - after all, that girl faced the consequences, didnt she.

there is a quote is there not, that goes something like "evil prevails when good men fail to act".

pumpkinsweetie · 09/06/2012 14:02

Well said Vicar!!!!

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/06/2012 14:49

edam and KalSkirata

So ultimately according to your posts it was the womans fault because she did not have the correct money to get on the bus.

2shoes · 09/06/2012 14:56

VicarInaTutu going by your post, what should the mother feel about herself?

weatherrain · 09/06/2012 15:01

It's a bit ridiculous blaming other people for the crime that one man committed. "I would want those images burned into their retinas" Hmm FFS. That's a good point from 2shoes about the mother, I'm a big coward when it comes to driving to strange places, but I can bet anything that I'll have no issues whatsoever if it comes down to the safety of one of my children. So stop the blaming, because if we're going down that route the mother doesn't get off lightly either.

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/06/2012 15:06

how is the mother responsible for the events that happened to prevent the girl from getting the bus home?

she could not get the bus home as she was 20p short, yes?
the people who were there, at that moment in time, could have prevented what happened next by giving her the 20p, could they not?

2shoes · 09/06/2012 15:09

weatherrain thanks you put it well

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/06/2012 15:09

as a mother, as the mother of a child with SN, i know, that you, yourself, cannot wrap them in cotton wool every minute of every day.

but if my son, or my daughter, were in need of help to the tune of the princely sum of 20p, i would hope to god that at least one decent person would help them.

my son, who as ive said has SN, was attacked in the street, and yes, i fucking well got into my car and i went and found them, and then i phoned 999, and i got the little shit who thought it was a laff to hit a "spaz" locked up for the night.

and i do that as a job now. its quite satisfying.

ThatVikRinA22 · 09/06/2012 15:11

the mother went to find her daughter - she was driving up and down the road she was found on.

the police had her in the back of their car when she was found. i dont understand the point regarding the mother - she went looking for her.
she didnt prevent her getting on the bus.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/06/2012 15:14

I think the world would be a better place if someone were to give anyone 20p so they didn't have to walk home in the small hours in December.

However, I also think that laying the blame for take at the door of anyone except the rapist just reinforces the idea that the onus is on women to prevent opportunities for take, rather than on men not to rape.
