Edward and Sophie's baby

Anyone else think its a bit odd that mother and baby still haven't been reunited. Apparently the baby was delivered by c-section on Saturday and Sophie still hasn't been to St George's to see her, despite the press saying that both mother and daughter are doing well. If mother is doing well, why haven't they transferred her to George's to be near her daughter, or vice versa. All a bit strange....

Ok girls, I got the scoop on what REALLY happened with Sophie and the baby.
She had an internal bleed (worse than placentia previa) and almost died...and the baby was born flatline and flatlined again later and was oxygen deprived for quite a while.
I would guess that Edward attended that particular charity event because it was for brain damaged babies and at that stage it looked like their child could very likely be a brain damaged child (from the long period without oxygen). I just hope that this doesn't turn out to be the case.
I am surprised that more of this type of information wasn't released to the public...it would certainly make them seem more sympathetic.
I'm just

WideWebWitch · 23/11/2003 03:51

Oh no! How awful for them. Thanks Sofiaames.

EmmaTMG · 23/11/2003 07:26

Blimey.....How awful! Surprised she'd out of hospital already then. Hope the baby is okay.

Davros · 23/11/2003 08:35

They're going home today!

JanHR · 23/11/2003 08:46

I have just heard that they are taking the baby home today. I am just glad that they are both well. We may get to fiknd out the name soon now that they are both out of hospital.

Jimjams · 23/11/2003 09:13

Ahh thanks sofiaames- that backs up what I heard on a very shaky grapevine (I heard baby was born with an AGPAR of 0). Fingers crossed for baby - hope she doesn't have problems.

Davros · 23/11/2003 09:36

Sophie very recently became Patron of the National Autistic Society, taking over from Anne who took on some of the Queen Mum's old work. I hope she doesn't ever have any need for an interest in the NAS other than as Patron

Marina · 23/11/2003 10:02

Oh, the poor things. Hopefully the baby has done fine, as she is going home pdq for someone who started out with an APGAR of 0. I wish them lots of luck in their "proper" start to family life. There are too many people in my SANDS group who are there because of an abruption, I'm so glad their little daughter made it.

Jimjams · 23/11/2003 10:11

agree davros. So many of the people I have met recently had babies born with very low AGPAR scores. Wouldn't wish the assessment treadmill on anyone. Really feel for the family. My blood runs cold when I hear of things like this.

janh · 23/11/2003 12:42

There's a pic of them on ananova . Can't really see the baby though. Hope she will be OK.

suedonim · 23/11/2003 13:25

That's very scary, Sofiames - how did you find out, btw? I'm so glad they have been reunited at last and wish them the best.

Ds1 was Agpar 3 at birth, but back then (1975) I had no idea it was significant. I realised he wasn't breathing at birth, but was totally unaware at the time that we could have lost him. He didn't even receive any special nursing afterwards, as SCBU's were only for prem babies then. Mind you, in some ways, I'm glad I didn't know. Ignorance can be bliss, on occasion, though I wouldn't have been saying that if he hadn't made it, of course.

PS the betting money is on 'Elizabeth' as the name, apparently!

Forestfly · 23/11/2003 13:26

Oh your son is my age!

popsycal · 23/11/2003 15:47

i am nearly crying rewadinh the news about the baby
i pray that she is ok

pupuce · 23/11/2003 17:03

I was a doula at the birth of baby who had 1 as APGAR at birth.... he is absolutely fine now but born not breathing - very scary....

musica · 23/11/2003 17:29

Sophie's baby

CnR · 23/11/2003 18:27

OMG - the poor couple. I really hope the baby does fine after such a shaky start. Good luck to them all.

SofiaAmes · 23/11/2003 22:49

I went to a dinner party full of doctors and one of them was a senior paediatric intensive care consultant. It was one of her trainees who delivered the baby. Ironically even this consultant complained about the sense of edward attending a charity do while his wife was in hospital. I guess she didn't know what the charity was for. They did say that oxygen deprivation has less permanent effect (ie brain damage) on new born babies than adults.

Baby's name - it suddenly came to me last night - Alice!!! Lady Alice Mountbatten-Windsor - very classy.

Traditional Royal Family name - not trendy - and we've been bigging it up for Ghosty on her name thread, which of course they will have been poring over!

CountessDracula · 24/11/2003 11:38

Careful SofiaAmes you'll land your mate up in front of the GMC if you're not careful! Should think she's pretty identifiable from what you've said (mind u her fault for blabbing in the first place)

jasper · 24/11/2003 16:35

Sofiaames I am horrified your friend divulged this info.

Enid · 24/11/2003 17:17

Intrigued to know the full story of Sophies baby. Hope everything is ok with them.

I have an Alice - don't feel completely happy about it being a royal name though...

Enid · 24/11/2003 17:19

Sofia - I cannot believe that your story is true! Surely they wouldn't have divulged that info? If it is, shame on them.

charlize · 24/11/2003 17:25

I wonder Why the papers haven't divulged any imformation about the circumstances surrounding the birth? They normally have their ways of finding out such info. Seems strange it hasn.t been reported how close to death sophie and baby came. If that is indeed the case.

aloha · 24/11/2003 18:22

I'd already read somewhere that her baby wasn't breathing when it was born - it was in a story about how the ambulance wasn't sent for so there was a life-threatening delay. Placental abruption is always life threatening to mother and baby, so no surprise there. Also causes massive blood loss.
