Edward and Sophie's baby

Anyone else think its a bit odd that mother and baby still haven't been reunited. Apparently the baby was delivered by c-section on Saturday and Sophie still hasn't been to St George's to see her, despite the press saying that both mother and daughter are doing well. If mother is doing well, why haven't they transferred her to George's to be near her daughter, or vice versa. All a bit strange....

I beleive that it was a conscious decision when they married that their children would be lords and ladies, not princes and princesses.

Edward isn't a Duke, he is a Count, a title the Queen bestowed on him on his marriage

Sonnet · 27/11/2003 13:22

Northerner - Best keep a low profile then eh?!
It made me laugh because it is just the sort of thing that I would do!!

JulieF · 27/11/2003 13:22

Scrub that, he isn't a Count he is an Earl!

oliveoil · 27/11/2003 13:24

You have spelt Count wrong

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 13:32

Regardless of his title he's a tw*t

Bozza · 27/11/2003 13:50

Yeah but Andrew only became Duke of York when he got married. So like suedonim I don't really understand it either.

Also why is an Earl's wife a Countess?

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 13:57

Coz Earless sounds silly!

CountessDracula · 27/11/2003 13:57

Sounds like she has no ears

Did she have any ears?

doormat · 27/11/2003 14:03

What a great choice of first name Louise

fio2 · 27/11/2003 14:18

she is a lady and not a princess because in the eyes of the royal family is common - no royal links

fio2 · 27/11/2003 14:19

sophie is common so she cant have royal title type thing, not so high up

aloha · 27/11/2003 14:23

Edward did decide the children shouldn't be royal (ie HRH) because he thought it would be a burden and also because (IMO) he's trying to rehabilitate his image and it seems better not to create more Princesses.

What I don't understand is why P Anne comes such a long way down the succession - how come B and E are in it ahead of Ed, and now Lady Lulu is ahead of P Anne? Did they change the rules?

(Not that any of them want the top job, I bet!)

Northerner · 27/11/2003 16:28

I'm bloody confused!

aloha · 27/11/2003 16:33

Line of succession is through male line so it's P Charles and his descendants (of either sex) then P Andrew (and his dds) then Prince Edward (and his daughter) and then Princess Anne (and her descendants).

LIZS · 27/11/2003 16:39

Isn't it to do with the fact that they are the offspring of the Queen's male offspring who take precedence over any of her female offspring regardless of birth order. if Andrew or Edward were to have any male offspring the girls would all be pushed further down the line. Although not sure if Edward having a boy would push B and E further down or not, don't think so.

Just found this on the cbbc website!

[1] The eldest son inherits
The eldest son gets the throne, and passes it to his eldest son.

[2] It is not in order of how old you are
Prince William is younger than many people behind him in the line to the throne. He is ahead of them because his dad, Prince Charles, was ahead of them.

[3] Gender is important
The role of monarch is passed to sons. You only pass it to your daughter if you don't have a son. Princess Anne is the Queen's second oldest child but she is only number eight in line to the throne.

[4] Religion is important
There are three people who would have been in the top 30 who are excluded. They have either become a Roman Catholic or married Roman Catholics. The monarch is head of the Church of England and so must be a member of that church (see background).

SoupDragon · 27/11/2003 16:49

Re being a duke, I have a seaky feeling that Ed is lined up to be Duke of Edinburgh when Prince Phillip dies.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2003 16:49

Or even a sneaky feeling

hmb · 27/11/2003 16:51

Not the queen Mother?

Frenchgirl · 27/11/2003 17:13

ahhhh the revolution..... >says dreamily

pie · 27/11/2003 17:59

I read that Sophie and Edward wanted the baby to be known as Lady Wessex, but to drop the name Windsor they would have to get the approval and consent of the privy counsel, and this would take months to organise, so they have stuck with Lady Windsor. They didn't want the HRH or the Windsor name so the baby could have as normal a life as possible.

hmb you made me choke on my cup of tea!
