Edward and Sophie's baby

Anyone else think its a bit odd that mother and baby still haven't been reunited. Apparently the baby was delivered by c-section on Saturday and Sophie still hasn't been to St George's to see her, despite the press saying that both mother and daughter are doing well. If mother is doing well, why haven't they transferred her to George's to be near her daughter, or vice versa. All a bit strange....

CD, what an awful story. I never realised what a horrible time you had of it. How was it when you wre properly reunited?
I do feel for Sophie. It sounds as if the baby wasn't flourishing very well even before the placental abruption as she was tiny. I wonder whether they will try for more children after such a traumatic series of events.

Jimjams · 13/11/2003 14:41

How awful to have to attend a charity function with your wife and baby ill in hospital!

Why did he have to attend the charity function though? Or are you being ironic JimJams?

Ah! Thanks sobernow.

Jimjams · 13/11/2003 15:22

not being ironic at all- just think it sucks if as a royal you have to go to some stupid function (charity or not) whilst your wife and baby are ill. I'm sure brainwave are very worthwhile, if I was him though I think I would find it hard to do the handshaking nice to meet you routine with eveything else going on.

Tinker · 13/11/2003 15:24

Well, that's what I mean, he doesn't really have to go surely. He's got a pretty good excuse.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2003 15:24

Even for Royalty the journey between Frimley Park & St Georges must be a nightmare to make on a daily basis!

Bozza · 13/11/2003 15:31

I think its awful thats he doing that. Everyone else in the country is entitled to two weeks paternity leave. His poor daughter is without her mother at the moment. Surely the next best thing is her father.

aloha · 13/11/2003 15:40

Maybe he feels he is doing something for Sophie - after all I bet the charity is important to her, the reception was in his house and a lot of people would have been let down and maybe the charity would have lost out financially if he didn't pitch in. There will be little he can do for the baby and he does visit both every day, according to reports. People feel differently in bad situations. Maybe he felt this was something he could do that was practical to help Sophie?

BTW I CANNOT believe I am defending Prince Edward!!

Jimjams · 13/11/2003 15:46

I don't know Tinker - it's probably "expected". I know what you mean Aloha, but I just wouldn;t be able to do the smiling sweetly bit. Of course it depends how bad both are, if it isn't too serious then maybe it would be easy. Personally I wouldn't expect him to turn up to my charity function iyswim

codswallop · 13/11/2003 16:00

aloha stop sympathising to the royalty !!

SoupDragon · 13/11/2003 16:08

One difference between Prince E doing it and Joe Public is that everyone knows the situation he's in so he wouldn't need to put on much of a false cheery front. And maybe he wants to save his paternity leave for when they're home

Jaybee · 13/11/2003 16:16

Maybe the nanny is sitting with the baby.

aloha · 13/11/2003 16:19

Coddy, you are right. A very bad habit to get into I am duly chastened. Mind you I'm not 100% pro-Establishment yet... Was idly fantasising about what I'd like to put on an anti-Bush poster for next week this am - Bush Is The Great Satan? Bush is a weapon of mass destruction? or just Get Out Of My Country? Would love to go to demonstrate against him next week but am afraid it might turn into a v scary riot.

janh · 13/11/2003 16:25

aloha, here is the explanation - you were right!

codswallop · 13/11/2003 16:26

oh I dont care about hte rest - just hate the royals - UP the revolution

CountessDracula · 13/11/2003 16:28

UP the servant more like

Bozza · 13/11/2003 16:35

So if Sophie was "adamant" that Edward do the event she can't be all that spaced out.

marthamoo · 13/11/2003 17:11

Ooh, Countess D...off with your head

I'd really, really like to - and I'd like to take ds, but am worried about rioters etc. I'm very wussy now I have him to think about. Maybe there's a civilised, quiet protest somewhere? I heard on R4 (?) that if it's just the Socialist Worker, rent-a-rioter lot then they will say, look it's only loonies that oppose him, but if they get the middle classes out and esp women it will be taken more seriously.

You can be adamant without being well enough to get up, surely?? (oh, no, I'm defending them again!!)
