Edward and Sophie's baby

Anyone else think its a bit odd that mother and baby still haven't been reunited. Apparently the baby was delivered by c-section on Saturday and Sophie still hasn't been to St George's to see her, despite the press saying that both mother and daughter are doing well. If mother is doing well, why haven't they transferred her to George's to be near her daughter, or vice versa. All a bit strange....

Victoria. There hasn't been one of those for a while.

charlize · 19/11/2003 11:27

Victoria probably would remind one more of the beckhams rather than royalty. Can't see Eddie going for that.

Northerner · 19/11/2003 11:32

Caroline doesn't sound very royal to me, perhaps as one of my BF's is a Caroline and she is a mad tart!

My bet is Elizabeth will be in there somewhere. Excuse my ignorance but what was the Queen Mother's name? I only know her as 'The Queen's Mother' maybe the'll put her bame in somewhere.

janh · 19/11/2003 11:35

The QM was Elizabeth too, Northerner.

this is interesting - by a woman who also had placenta abruption.

wilbur · 19/11/2003 11:47

V. interesting article, janh. What a nightmare for that couple. I agree that often the father gets forgotten at these times (understandably in an emergency). My strongest memory of having ds is dh crying in the op theatre, he'd been waiting outside while they put in epidural for emergency c-section and it took ages about 45 mins and he was totally panic stricken. It took him about 2 hours to stop crying, even though everything was fine with both me and ds.

I noticed Edward was said to have been crying after seeing baby and Sophie together - so his emotions are at least in better working order than some of his family.

There was actually a Queen Caroline so it is a royal name.

Northerner · 19/11/2003 11:57

Sorry but ROFL at Queen Caroline!!! I just can't quite grasp it!

aloha · 19/11/2003 11:59

But funnily enough, she was a mad old tart too! She danced naked at parties, wore dresses slashed to the navel, never changed her knickers, and when George became King in 1820 she was offered £50,000 to stay out of the country (she was German). She refused, was subsequently accused of adultery in a trial at the House of Lords, and barred from the coronation.
Perhaps not a good role model?

wilbur · 19/11/2003 12:01

Sounds like a right laugh!

oliveoil · 19/11/2003 12:02

Sounds like a normal royal to me.

Northerner · 19/11/2003 12:05

ROFL

pupuce · 19/11/2003 13:10

She is leaving the hospital

codswallop · 19/11/2003 13:14

reckon they will name her when she leaves too

fisil · 19/11/2003 18:29

There was a statue of Queen Caroline at my college. When v drunk, a favourite student game was "touch Caroline" which involved clambering onto the roof to where the statue was and, well, touching her. So I'm pleased to hear that she was a mad old coot, she probably enjoyed all the drunken attention.

pie · 19/11/2003 18:37

The baby isn't leaving the hospital even though Sophie left this afternoon.

What can happend to the baby with a placental abruption?

Jimjams · 19/11/2003 18:42

Pie - it depends how bad the abruption was- and whether the baby suffered any loss of oxygen and if so for how long. The type of things I guess they would worry about would be learning difficulties, cp, epilepsy etc - all the standard things. It all depends on how much oxygen was getting through though.

LIZS · 19/11/2003 19:15

Don't reckon they will announce a name now until George Bush has left and the security furore has died down.

hmb · 19/11/2003 19:19

How do they know that she never changed her knickers??????

LOL, she sounds like she would have enjoyed Mumsnet!

tamum · 19/11/2003 19:24

Maybe if she spent all that time dancing naked people had ample opportunity to examine the condition of her grundies?

janh · 19/11/2003 19:33

jimjams, if loss of oxygen might have caused problems, that 30 minute delay before the ambulance came could be a major issue, couldn't it?

Jimjams · 19/11/2003 19:38

yes and no janh- it depends on how much of the placenta had seperated (I think more than 50% and the baby doesn't survive). If it was only a small seperation then it might not have been a problem. It's hard to tell with so little information.

I do know someone who had a placental abruption and the hospital messed up her birth- they faffed around taking nail varnish off etc rather than getting on with it- and that little girl is now severely disabled. Her AGPAR score was about 1 when she was born. They will know the likelihood of potential problems as they will know the AGPAR score at birth. I just hope it was only a small abruption and the little girl carried on getting lots of o2 during the wait. fingers crossed. Really feel for Ed and Sophie though.

MABS · 19/11/2003 20:19

I had a total abruption and the hospital were fantastic with emergency section, they had kept me in for the 3 wks prior 'in case' My ds still has mild cp though...everything crossed for Sophie's little babe.

popsycal · 19/11/2003 20:25

is there still no news on the baby?
sorry i have not seen the news in days...

Jimjams · 19/11/2003 21:13

I'm glad you got good care MABS- must have been very scary. Everything here crossed for the baby as well.
