Just seen that the Supreme Court have ruled that she cannot return to the UK, her Appeal has been unsuccessful.

@Saywhatyoumeanandmeanwhatyousa

Well, I’ll be flamed for this, but I agree with the Supreme Court’s assertion that “the Court of Appeal had "mistakenly believed that, when an individual's right to have a fair hearing... came into conflict with the requirements of national security, her right to a fair hearing must prevail."”
Absolutely agree!

Is it known why her 3 children died?
Do we know for certain that they existed?

NovemberR · 26/02/2021 13:29

My granny would have said you've made your bed, now you can lie in it.

Far too many people nowadays believe that their actions will not have consequences and that they can plead 'human rights' when they gave no thought to the human rights of other people.

It's a salutary lesson. The choices and decisions she made have affected other people as well as herself. That's what happens in life. And radical choices then to have radical consequences.

TeaLibrary · 26/02/2021 13:30

It's the right decision. She is utterly without remorse and poses a very clear risk to our national security. The Supreme Court has rightly prioritised the safety of British citizens above the fate of a radicalised terrorist.

According to people who arrested her, people who were harmed by her, and people who worked alongside her in Isis, she didn’t. Even the child she posed with who apparently died was someone else’s.
userxx · 26/02/2021 13:34

Good riddance.

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 26/02/2021 13:36

She appears to be unrepentant and was quite happy with the Manchester arena bombing as she felt it was justified. Terrorists and their sympathisers should reap what they sow.

SirGawain · 26/02/2021 13:39

@Andante57

Has Shamima Begum now run out of options or are there further appeals she can apply for?
Yes she has. The Supreme Court is the highest court in the UK and legally speaking there can be no appeal. There word is quite literally Law.
TopTabby · 26/02/2021 13:40

I was glad to hear it. She's been consistently unrepentant.

Kanaloa · 26/02/2021 13:40

I understand what people mean by her being unrepentant etc but I do think the issue of her guilt should be separated from the issue of her return. I think of her as Britain’s problem. I don’t agree with anything that she’s done but I think she should be dealt with by Britain rather than pushed onto Syria.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/02/2021 13:41

Right decision but I do hope the same decision is made when white British kids do illegal stuff abroad. Murder, high profile criminal activities (eg human trafficking / drugs / scams) etc etc

Ylvamoon · 26/02/2021 13:44

It's the right decision. She has shown no remorse for her actions.

Andante57 · 26/02/2021 13:45

Grumpy and SirGawain thank you for answering my questions.

Do you have a link to this Grumpy? I always thought this may be the case. Some people really are gullible. I remember posting to that effect when there was a mass outpouring of sympathy for her on here.

Pemba · 26/02/2021 13:48

She seems to be an awful person, has no empathy for others and zero loyalty to this country. She would probably be an expensive danger to every one if allowed home. But is it right to dump our problem on Syria? And you can't leave someone stateless.

I don't know what the answer is.

HoppingPavlova · 26/02/2021 13:48

Given she still holds radicalised views, how could there be any other outcome? She still wholeheartedly agrees acts of ISIS are justified. It’s not something that will change.

I also don’t believe she had the last child at least, pretty sure it didn’t exist so she is also extremely calculating. Calculating and unrepentant, and believing acts of terrorism are justified is not exactly conducive to being brought back.

user18467425798532 · 26/02/2021 13:48

What would remorse look like?

Because to me those comments are no different to people who decry victims of violent offences for not behaving how they think a traumatised person should behave based on ignorance and myths. "She's too emotional / emotionless / too quiet / too talkative / using the wrong tense / too vague / too detailed / she smiled / she didn't smile / why didn't she scream or run away - I don't believe her" .

It's all ignorant, judgemental bullshit that leads to the kind of situation a pp alluded to where abuse victims are not believed by the legal system because they did not perform.

So what performance were those claiming she's not remorseful expecting?

And how much are your views based on the misogynistic narrative you have been fed by the press?

Mrstwiddle · 26/02/2021 13:49

Good.

NotJosieGrosieAnymore · 26/02/2021 13:49

I disagree with the outcome purely on the basis that the UK government has abdicated itself of responsibility for her when she still presents a very real threat to peace and security wherever she may be residing. She is a radicalised Islamic terrorist.

This woman is British born, we cannot strip her of citizenship saying she’s not our problem any more - we have a responsibility to bring her back to face justice for breaking British law. Making her stateless solves precisely nothing. She has no one else to go to now but her fellow terrorists and ISIS cronies, so the chances are she will be involved in more terrorist activity in the future. Why wouldn’t we prevent that by locking her up?

notimagain · 26/02/2021 13:51

As I understand it that's only possible if you can show these hypothetical "British" kids you are referring have other options for nationality available....
SweetPetrichor · 26/02/2021 13:51

Good.

NotJosieGrosieAnymore · 26/02/2021 13:51

(locking her up assuming that a “guilty” verdict ensues)

Pippa234 · 26/02/2021 13:52

I think it was the right decision.
I don't feel sorry for her.
She showed no remorse which is even more crazy to be that entitled you think you should be allowed back.

RedGoldAndGreene · 26/02/2021 13:53

@GrumpyHoonMain

There was a white boy with British and Canadian dual nationality (Jack Letts) who was stripped of his British nationality for being an ISIS fighter
gildalilly · 26/02/2021 13:54

This is shocking. I can't believe we can just abandon a citizen. She was a child.
