Just seen that the Supreme Court have ruled that she cannot return to the UK, her Appeal has been unsuccessful.

OP posts:

I know, i do agree. I think it may be the best we have at the moment unfortunately.

RickiTarr · 27/02/2021 11:12

Well we agree on something anyway. Smile

MrsBotibolsCruise · 27/02/2021 11:14

Haha yup!

LemonSwan · 27/02/2021 11:24

why so many men have been able to come back when it is known they had ISIS involvement

I didnt know this.

If this is true then it changes everything and we have no choice but to let her back.

Parkperson · 27/02/2021 11:27

I do think she has been badly advised. The first videos of her when she was pregnant and after having given birth, showed her in full niqab. She appeared to be hostile and unrepentant. Her sympathy appeared to lie with ISIS.
The recent videos show her in jeans and sweatshirt without head covering. She looks much more like a confused misguided teenager. I think the public would look at the recent photos and see her as someone who can change and be de radicalised.
This is a really good documentary (Panorama) about an American mother who joined ISIS. Worth a watch.

CornishPastyDownUnder · 27/02/2021 11:33

Awesome news-unrepentant and old enough to know better-couldnt even be bothered to fake remorse-just counting on good old Blighty to bend over for her..thankfully this time common-sense prevailed.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 27/02/2021 11:35

I think Rosie Holt nails it, tbh woman explains...

PresentingPercy · 27/02/2021 11:45

People who had come back still had uk citizenship. They had not taken it away. That’s why lots of ex fighters are back.

Behind bars does not have to be conventional prison. It can be rehabilitation. We don’t have to have incarceration in the traditional sense.

yellowspanner · 27/02/2021 12:32

Beau is no longer a British citizen and is deemed by both the Government and the Supreme Court to be a threat to national security.
Once she lost herBritish citizenship she is no longer our problem.
Good. She is dangerous.

yellowspanner · 27/02/2021 12:44

Begun not Beau ffs

Numicon · 27/02/2021 13:10

I'm not sure I think that setting a precedent of being stripped of your citizenship should you become a dangerous terrorist is exactly a bad thing, tbh. Why on earth shouldn't we put our own safety and the rights of law abiding citizens first??

And honestly, I think we will see a much tougher approach to traitors from now on, now the government has no one else to blame for being lenient (the EU).

PresentingPercy · 27/02/2021 13:40

It’s bad if these people are living in a refugee camp. Who knows what they are doing? She is our problem. All the other “Brits” are our problem too. Many countries have citizens in Syria. I don’t think the usa is wrong in wanting them repatriated. They might even do it for us!

She's not stateless. She has a Bangladeshi father, and automatic citizenship by birth.

Ylvamoon · 27/02/2021 14:02

She is dangerous, she showed no mercy to her victims. I think it was the right decision.

I'm sure there is more to this. You never really hear anything constructive from her family. I don't think they are actively lobbying for her return. I wonder why.

if my DD was groomed at 15 by extremists and 4 years later appeared in a refugee camp I would move heaven & earth for her return. I would try and get everyone behind me, that includes the media

Lampzade · 27/02/2021 14:13
**@TangerineGenie* and @RickiTarr*

Like Shamima Begum, and a lot of other British people, I have the automatic right to citizenship to another country; in fact three - Israeli, Irish and Polish.

But no member of my family within living memory has even been to any of those countries, so why ever would I apply for citizenship to any of them?

Britain, a country to which I do have uncontested citizenship - a passport, a birthplace, a history - should never be entitled to strip me of it and leave me stateless just because I have some ancestors from elsewhere.

Begum had never held a Bangladeshi passport and had never been to Bangladesh.

Stripping Begum of British citizenship was a stupid act of political showmanship by Sajid Javed, but its wider implications should chill the blood for any British citizen who’s got even the faintest links to somewhere else.
@GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman

I thought the issue wasn't so much that she had been radicalised, but that she was unrepentant and regarded as a terror threat.
This.
doublehalo · 27/02/2021 14:30

Even if she had been allowed to return to the Uk, if any of the following it true then I presume she'd have been facing some court cases and a lenghty stay behind bars. I mean, how many lives did she help take? How many other girls did she prevent from leaving?

The Daily Telegraph reported that Begum was an "enforcer" in ISIL's "morality police", and also tried to recruit other young women to join the jihadist group.[20] She was allowed to carry a Kalashnikov rifle and earned a reputation as a strict enforcer of ISIL's laws, such as dress codes for women. An anti-ISIL activist told The Independent that there are separate allegations of "Begum [stitching] suicide bombers into explosive vests so they could not be removed without detonating".[21]

AllFrightOnTheNight · 27/02/2021 20:28

@Viviennemary

Ok for Biden to say that the USA can lock their terrorists up in Guatanamo bay. (Not that I approve of that for a solution) Can't stand Biden and have always thought he would be a disaster. This is the start of it I expect. How dare he tell other countries what they should do.
The irony... when the UK is telling Bangladesh they need to give citizenship to someone who committed horrific acts while a British citizen.
Unfucked · 28/02/2021 10:30

Unbelievable that PP are telling me that Ireland doesn’t have to automatically accept a hypothetical citizenship application, but somehow Bangladesh doesn’t have the same autonomy 🤣.

Cunty British imperialism just never stops.

Unfucked · 28/02/2021 10:33

An aside, but what the fuck happened to education that we no longer teach really simple concepts like logic?

Unfucked · 28/02/2021 10:36

The PP who thought the ECHR no longer applied to post Brexit Britain too.

So many PP who can’t understand what removing respect for the rule of law might mean. Why a Jewish lawyer is defending (gratis?) an unrepentant Islamist terrorist suspect.

Jesus wept.

Well, several of the highest judges in the land unanimously decided that national security trumps an individuals ‘rights’

Thank god these judges were in charge of the decision and not those who sympathise..... Hmm

Unfucked · 28/02/2021 11:05

The interests of National Security is a very blunt instrument used to deprive us of our rights, @TableFlowerss.

Moreover the judges in this case actually acknowledged a further appeal was possible. They’re not certain either, having seen all the evidence we haven’t. It’s because Begum can’t instruct lawyers that the appeal isn’t proceeding, not because it has no legal merit.

Unfucked · 28/02/2021 11:08

@TableFlowerss Can your brain really not cope with the idea that it’s entirely possible not to be a Begum sympathiser while pointing out the dangerous repercussions Begum’s case will have?
