Just seen that the Supreme Court have ruled that she cannot return to the UK, her Appeal has been unsuccessful.

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 26/02/2021 16:16

The young girls who were groomed to be sex abuse victims were given alcohol, drugs and beaten if they didn’t comply.

It’s different.

Numicon · 26/02/2021 16:18

Join any death cults, @ginswinger?

Thought not.

RickiTarr · 26/02/2021 16:20

@ginswinger

If I was held eternally accountable as an adult for every stupid thing I did as a 15 year old, that would be a frightening prospect
What was the most stupid (or cruel or damaging or hurtful or criminal) thing you did in your teens?
Bythemillpond · 26/02/2021 16:24

If Shamima was called Louise Smith and she'd gone to America to fight with a white supremacist terror organisation (which is not outside of the realm of 'stuff that could happen'- tonnes of people in the UK have been sucked into the q-anon bullshit which is at its core an ultra-right white supremacist group that shares members with reactionary militia groups) - would she be stripped of citizenship? Of course she fucking wouldn't. White Britons don't see Asians as citizens with the same rights. Even when they were born here. That's become blatantly clear

But going to America and joining the White Supremacists didn’t/doesn’t have a ruling which says that you could lose your citizenship.

If Louise Smith had done what Begum did then I would imagine the results would be the same.
I haven’t heard one word from any interviews that makes me think that she has changed and is remorseful of her actions. I think the only reason she wants to come back is because the lifestyle is better and not because she thinks of herself as British and all that which comes with it.

Rosie2111 · 26/02/2021 16:24

Definitely the right decision. On a separate note, I cannot understand those in this thread who excuse her actions as an ‘immature’ young teenager. What 14/15 year old British girl would watch bloodthirsty ISIS recruitment videos and think that was something she wanted to be a part of? Or move across the world to marry a beast she’s never met who has signed up to murder and torture innocent, poor people? Or to support the funding and organisation of terror back home, to callously murder and mutilate her fellow British citizens? And despite her experiences, deciding to stay there until the bitter end and not showing any remorse towards her (direct/indirect) victims or the children murdered in the Manchester bombings? She is a psychopath who continues to feel that her religion justifies her inhumane behaviour.

IsThePopeCatholic · 26/02/2021 16:26

I feel sorry for her but I think it’s the right decision.

Rosie2111 · 26/02/2021 16:26

Re the ‘Louise Smith’ argument, are you not aware that Jack Letts was stripped of his British Citizenship?

bilbodog · 26/02/2021 16:26

Moondust - i agree with you. And for all those saying she has shown no remorse, how can she say anything against ISIS when she is in a camp surrounded by ISIS supporters - she would have her throat cut!

Also the fact that she didnt try to leave when she realised what it was like, how could she? If ISIS knew she was trying to leave she would have been killed - so not much of a choice to make!

I dont think they have women's aid out there in the camps.

Ostryga · 26/02/2021 16:27

She has only lost her right to return to the U.K. for the court case.

She can still be returned her citizenship.

Lampzade · 26/02/2021 16:28

@Moondust001

She has other citizenship, but they have stated they will hang her as a terrorist, hence she wants back into the cushy uk.

She does not have any other citizenship. Even the UK government argument is that she could APPLY for Bangladeshi citizenship, not that she has it, and they have shown no evidence that she has such citizenship. Under international law it is illegal to strip someone of their citizenship if they have no other citizenship - and that is one of the bases on which the appeal against stripping her of citizenship is based!

Also, we do not EVER deport people to a third country where they might face the death sentence, no matter what heinous crime they may have committed. Before we agree extradition, the death penalty has to be off the table. Is this so very different?

I think that people may have a right to be angry with her. People may despise her. Or she may be as much at the mercy of manipulation by the gutter press as she was by ISIS.

But it should not be about her - it should be about human rights. If it is so easy to strip her of a citizenship that she was born to, it is just as easy to take mine or yours.

This 100%
AllMyPrettyOnes · 26/02/2021 16:28

Good.

Also good.

And how many men have left to join isis and returned ? Loads I don’t agree at all with what she or what she stood for/stands for but this doesn’t seem fair
Cam77 · 26/02/2021 16:30

I am missing something here why is she a British Citizen?

It’s funny someone asked this. Because actually a lot of people resent the fact that a Muslim person who dresses as a Muslim can attain British citizenship. Hence the horrible glee in some quarters which her tragic story has unfolded.

Can you imagine a pretty blonde white girl groomed by Muslim men into hating the West and stepping on a plane being then stripped of her citizenship? Nope, me neither.

RickiTarr · 26/02/2021 16:31

If it is so easy to strip her of a citizenship that she was born to, it is just as easy to take mine or yours.

Only if we do or support something absolutely heinous overseas for a foreign state or terrorist concern and even then they can’t leave us stateless. That legislation is incredibly tightly worded.

Stratfordplace · 26/02/2021 16:31

Moondust I’ll reserve my compassion and understanding for the victims of terrorism.

ChancesWhatChances · 26/02/2021 16:32

🥳🥳🥳🥳

zoemum2006 · 26/02/2021 16:33

It's outrageous. She's a UK born citizen.

Would they strip my white skinned child of her citizenship if she was groomed by terrorists?

I don't think so.

Andante57 · 26/02/2021 16:33

But I can see that hatred and spite rules this debate, not compassion, understanding, or even fairness

Moondust if a 15 year white neo-nazi had joined a far right group intent on carrying our act of terrorism would you be as keen to defend him as you are Shamima?
I doubt it somehow.

RickiTarr · 26/02/2021 16:33

JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS. JACK LETTS.

WHITE.
MALE.
PRIVILEGED.
With articulate MC parents from Oxford who have campaigned relentlessly for him.

He has had the same treatment as Begum.

RTFT.

Suzi888 · 26/02/2021 16:34

“Have you heard the deplorable views she still holds? She's not sorry, she doesn't regret her behaviour (have you even read about what she's done??) “
No I haven’t, but in that case it was the right decision. If she still holds those views why does she want to live in Britain? Confused

AllMyPrettyOnes · 26/02/2021 16:36

@zoemum2006

Don't be so pathetic. Google Jack Letts. White, privileged male treated the exact same.

Good decision all round.

What is the point of just burbling away and not reading the thread? If you don’t know who Jack Letts is, you’re not well informed enough to comment.

Someone’s “white child” has already lost his British citizenship because he went to join Daesh.

Stop trying to stir up racial divisions. The radicalisation and terrorism is more than enough to deal with for our society.

Snookie00 · 26/02/2021 16:38

@zoemum2006

I don't think so.

If she had or was entitled to another countries citizenship then she would no matter how white her skin is.

I’ll remind my dual nationality children not to join any overseas terrorist organisations so they don’t lose their British passport. If they do, then I certainly won’t be moaning about their human rights and consider it an occupational hazard of being member of a terrorist organisation.

RedGoldAndGreene · 26/02/2021 16:39

Sally Jones ?

There are white European girls who flew to Syria to become ISIS brides and people saw them as traitors to their countries and there'd be no sympathy for them if one of their nationalities were stripped.
