Welcome one and all!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on February 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Ignores PA's comment about chelsea. The alternate in this house is Liverpool. Curse of the Ex and ds. still at least they are likely to exist at the end of the season.

Dinky - am supporter by default. Used to spend a lot of time in Gosport and remember the pompy, intense southampt rivarly most. Do you think we could kidnap Rednapp back again? Or do you have a better solution?

droitwichmummy · 09/02/2010 20:57

Think that warrants getting the wine out

PA any of DS's cake left?

OP posts:
MrsDinky · 09/02/2010 21:41

WCTR - have just spent 10 years working in Gosport, it was about half and half blue and red where I worked. Don't think even Harry (or Milan) could drag us out of this mess. Just hope someone on the board is doing the Euromillions, that's probably the best hope.
My DS (6) has only this last season got properly interested it is very sad having to tell him every week that Pompey have lost again

My DCs didn't like my chocolate muffins! Now I have got 9 left all to myself, they were low fat, high fibre, but all the same, that's a lot of calories!

Today's list

Swish and swipe - done
Washing - in dryer - now put away
Hotspot pile of paper in kitchen - done
Wipe surfaces (realistically only visible ones) - all except under microwave
Make muffins - done
Hotspot our bedroom floor - done my clothes, DH can do his own.
Start getting quotes for house insurance - done,
Phone Orange about my mobile - done, wasted half an hour, got nowhere
Take DCs to dentist - behaved beautifully and got a clean bill of health all round

Off to finish the washing up and watch Chinese Food Made Easy

feetheart · 09/02/2010 22:11

Evening all!

Only managing to get on here in evenings at the moment but working hard during the day - my Mum turns up on Thursday so its a bit full-on

SC - I still need to work much harder at doing any decluttering too. Think I will have to really concentrate on building in 5 mins.

Hope all the poorly people are feeling better. Especially your DD MissB, really makes me wince just reading about it.

Got a fair bit done again today - the imminent arrival of said parent has really concentrated the mind

Create flyer for Pamper night
Morning routine
Hoovered living room, hall and stairs
Lots of stuff shoved put into the loft
All sorts of children's momentoes that were piled up in DS's room put in box and put in loft to be sorted out at a later date
Made soup for lunch with friend tomorrow
Booked osteopath's appointment for me
Afternoon routine
Work re getting new tenants
Evening routine - need to finish then get to bed asap

Night night

feetheart · 09/02/2010 22:13

StillCounting · 09/02/2010 22:37

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 09/02/2010 23:01

portsmouth - celebrating. celebrating - portsmouth. nope sorry SC its not computing at the mo. Possible disbanding of the football club tomo if they cant sort out their tax bill... tis doom and gloom. And wishes for a small miracle. The options relegation, bankrupt and relegation, cease trading. yep a whole lot to celebrate.

missbennett · 09/02/2010 23:10

Hi, all. Quick check in - was going to dye hair and 'potter' on here but phone call from mother put paid to that - nice to talk to her though

thank you for encouragement re weight loss SC and Mmango - am still trying hard - have lost via Weightwatchers so might have a chat with leader on Saturday - she is lovely and very approachable/sensible.
MrsD - how did you make your muffins? They sound lovely

DD1's toe is improving - though the antibiotics made her very sick etc - these have now been changed and she seems a lot better. Could kiss the nurse who told her she's not even to think about school tomorrow OR Thursday - obviously wouldn't listen to mother but if the nurse says..... - so she might actually get some rest and recover properly!

Parents' evening for DD2 - usual frustration - I can feel the pain of the teachers - 'she's a bright girl and could do really well but she doesn't focus/chats too much/doesn't organise herself/won't ask for help/doesnt' complete work or homework' etc etc. All of which is hard for her to hear and she switches off. And I want to yell at them - 'she has Asperger's. She doesn't do most of this deliberately. this is how she is and I am NOT a crap mother!' Plus, the kids are supposed to go round the teachers getting the appointments. That is so far out of her comfort zone it would be like asking me to speak French all day. I couldn't do it - i might manage the odd sentence but that would be it. And she managed to make 3 appointments - but we really needed to see a lot more teachers. So i shall be on the phone to the Learning support chap tomorrow..... Sorry to rant Rant over now, feel clamer! Thank you for listening!

Anyway, have done my routines and the mission. Have also printed off the 'Student control journal' for DD2 in the hope that it might help her but she quite liked the look of it.

Right. Off to bed now. Waves good night to all

Mmmango · 10/02/2010 04:32

Hi All

SC - I've had a look, but I can't find it - that site is so badly organised (ooh, the irony!) It might have been the audio thing? She was talking about making a 'studio' out of a spare room that used to piled high with junk - she took 2 things out every day and dealt with them outside the room. Can anyone else help?

dwm for getting the maths homework done flummoxed me completely

My condolences to football people

MissBennett, dd2's parent's evening sounds really difficult, I hope that the learning support guy is useful.

droitwichmummy · 10/02/2010 07:29

Good morning all!

Working from home day today so should catch up a bit

Love, love, love today's babystep! Its good to have as a mentra and I did actually suggest this to Dstepsis on phone last night as I know she is really struggling on a number of levels - I'll make her a flybaby yet

OP posts:
missbennett · 10/02/2010 08:10

Morning! Did hair first thing so now feel a bit more like it!
Spooky that it's the 15 minutes babystep today. I went to bed last night thinking I will apply that to work today - 15 minutes emails, 15 minutes this task, etc etc - I have so much to do I don't know where to start so i'll give it a go and report back

Sorry to rant about school, I know a lot of you are teachers. I have nothing agaisnt teachers - it's not a job I would do and have plenty of family members who are so I know what hard work it is - and I do sympathise with the frustration if you've got a bright kid who seems unwilling......but the system seesms designed to be difficult for some kids and because it works for most they have to fit in. Sure that's not how it's intended but certainly feels that way. I have days when I would like to run away to a remote Scottish island!!! Sorry, am still going on and must STOP whining (a la fly lady) and deal with it. Baby steps, baby steps

Today I will:
-morning routine - done
-dye hair - done
-tackle work 15 minutes at a time - we'll see
-read panel papers for tomorrow
-15 minutes decluttering I MUST I MUST I MUST
-ring learning support man
-encourage DD2 to do science homework
-have reasonable conversation about DD2 GCSE options as must be in on Friday
-check on DD1's health and wellbeing from time to time - especially manky toe!
-make sure sorted for guides tomorrow
-evening routine
-CHILL

See you later - have a good day everybody

fruitstick · 10/02/2010 09:29

Morning everyone.

It's been a hectic couple of days recently and I seemed to have spent the entire time tidying and cleaning but my house is still far from tidy or clean .

It's the children I tell you - no sooner have you done something then they've buggered it up again!

However, I have 5 hours with no children today so I am going to

clean out bath (how can 2 children make it so dirty!)
put washing away

order new phone
cook dinner for DSs
go see Stuart Lee

StillCounting · 10/02/2010 10:52

Afternoon all (quickie from paid work office)

No time to post this morning as I was scraping 10 cm of snow off the car. Then proceeded to have very minor accident on school run - car slid to the right and I wasn't able to adjust it despite going at very slow speed - roads are lethal - and I scraped a parked car. Then spent 10 mins finding pad and paper and writing a note etc etc to stick under its windscreen. At every following roundabout dd said "don"t crash again Mummy" Made it in the end but ....

Hope everyone keeping warm.

Thanks for important step MummyD Good luck with your recruitment programme

Yes it IS badly organised Mmango - her books are the same - don't worry will stumble across it at some point am sure!! Thanks for looking

Waves to everyone else

Before work

droitwichmummy · 10/02/2010 14:02

10 cm of snow is not good news - was it expected?

So far I have managed to do
breakfast
dressed
DS up
school run
shop on way home
15 mins going through e-mails (took about 45!)
start paid work
lunch

Have also made jam tarts and queen cakes THIS is what working from home is about

Back later!

OP posts:
elliepac · 10/02/2010 14:06

i'm back! will be back later for catch up but have missed you lovely ladies.

PositiveAttitude · 10/02/2010 14:10

SC - Glad you are Ok after your crash. Good job nobody was hurt. Hope it does not turn out too expensive to repair. But as long as your DD was able to take her homework in, life will be fine! Let us know what mark DWM et al she gets!

Fruitstick - Agree about Children making a mess! Bannish them to the shed I say!

MissB - Go on rant and rave about the school. It is so frustrating, i hope DD gets the help she needs. Believe me, I have done more than my share of ranting. I think Mumsnet teachers are a better breed than the ones we came up against. Every teacher on here has always given me good advice and agreed with me when the teachers have been absolute idiots difficult!

Not a lot of flying going on here. Just spent a few hours and a lot of money at the hairdressers and feel really relaxed and all bouncy headed!
DD3 has shown slight improvement healthwise over the last day, after an awful weekend, so that has been really good, long may it last.
DD2 has been to the dr again today and got another load of tablets. She is lolling around like a wet blanket driving me mad, taking up the whole sofa!
I ahve bought home a load of work to do and had a phone call for some more work, so my relaxing day off tomorow looks like me sat in front of the computer for most of it!
Must dash to collect Dd2 from education unit.

Have a good day and catch up later. What homework is it tonight? DD2 suggested she get some help with A-level psychology .... anyone????

PositiveAttitude · 10/02/2010 14:11

ELLIE great to "see" you? Whats been happening? You ok?

droitwichmummy · 10/02/2010 14:38

ELLIE!!!! I'd almost given up hope!

loads of (((((((hugs)))))))

See you later

OP posts:
StillCounting · 10/02/2010 15:04

Yay!!! Ellie!!! Tis great you are back!! what's happening??

Thanks PA and MummyD all fine thanks - forecast was light snow - instead had traffic jam record of 920km (unprecedented)! on motorways between Brussels/Leuven and Brussels/Antwerp caused by overnight heavy fall! TRams and metro running thankfully but buses have been recalled. Gritters slid all over the place and got stuck too! Amazing considering we were drinking coffee on the terrace in the sunshine on Sat. Shivering at -5°c now.

Jam tarts sound yum MummyD

PA and MissB glad your bouffants are bouncing!

and it's good news your dc are on the mend PA

right - coffee break over - back to counting paper clips

StillCounting · 10/02/2010 15:05

PA I'll find my pince-nez and chaise longue in readiness for psychology questions tonight ...

Mmmango · 10/02/2010 15:18

Miss Bennett - I used to use the 15 minutes thing at work, too - hope it works for you!

Ellie - where have you been? Are you hiding Mrs Gok over there too?

Did quite well today I thought, routines and mission done, babystep noted. Toaster oven is clean, overall kitchen is looking pretty good.

PositiveAttitude · 10/02/2010 16:36

I have a burning question for you all. Not quite on a par with SC s homework question.
Why do teenagers kiss so loudly? Slurp, slurp, sluuuurrrrp! YUCK! Yes, I confess to just being the embarrassing mum who has just gone and asked DD and boyfriend that very question. How on earth am I supposed to concentrate on my accounting work with that going on in the background???

As you were ladies.

optimisticmumma · 10/02/2010 17:44

LOL PA !!I am reduced to sending DS2 in on 'missions' accompanied by extremely loud coughing! You wait till the duvet comes out to 'keep warm, it's soooo cold in the den!'
Sorry to have gone awol over the last two days but, hey, what a couple of days they've been!
Firstly - ELLIE I HAVE MISSED YOU !!! (((hugs))). Suspect you have been buried by schoolwork?
Secondly - yah boo sucks with bells on to those who criticise the fat fairy! How dare we all be judged as depressed/mentally unsound etc etc. I love the thread because it's full of lovely people who want to get organised and I enjoy reading about everyone's day for no other reason than IT'S FUN!!!
Quick update: DS1 is fine now and passed his driving theory test today! He's off on a school trip first thing and we've just had an inch of snow in about an hour!![shock
I persuaded DD to delay HPV jab on the grounds that I want her well for at least a year before we jab her iyswim. She agreed after a massive row about me being controlling etc etc etc
Not much flying here but will catch up tomorrow when DS1 has gone!

See you all later

MiniMarmite · 10/02/2010 19:48

Evening All

Welcome back Ellie hope all is well with you.

SC glad you are ok after your 'dingle' as my (Aussie) DH would put it.

OM glad DS passed his theory test

Can't rememmber who it was that was talking about teenagers kissing loudly but it did make me lol ...I'll probably remember it in about 15 years time when DS brings his first girlfriend home!

I'm just about keeping on top of things here. No decluttering going on though. TBH I am having a bit of a major rethink on things at the moment (think as a result of the recent work debacle and the fact that I've not yet fallen pregnant again ) so taking things easy.

Off to watch location x 3 now!

Have a good evening everyone x

MrsDinky · 10/02/2010 21:45

Evening all,

Hi Ellie welcome back.

SC - sorry to hear of your bump, my dad did just the same a couple of weeks ago, but hit a tree rather than a car, bashed his brand new car up a bit . My DS keeps asking why my new car (Toyota Yaris) is on the telly so much at the moment .

PA - pass, hopefully a few more years till I have to think about that!

OM - well done to DS1, old enough here not to have had to do theory test and .

WCTR - today DS brought home a PFC in the Community Flyer for half term activities, and my first thought was I'm not writing cheque to that lot, might get nothing for it again.

MissB - was it you who asked about the muffins? Easy peasy.

Mix 9oz plain flour (I used wholemeal) with 2tsp baking powder, 1/2tsp bicarb, 5oz sugar, 4tbsp cocoa, some choc chips in a bowl. In a jug measure 8floz milk, 3 floz sunflower oil and beat in an egg. Tip this into the dry ingredients, stir just enough to combine, whack into muffin cases, 25 mins at 190C/gas 5, job done [Jamie Oliver emoticon]. DCs have decided they do like them after all, so I don't have to eat them all myself .

Is anyone else finding it really irritating to teach their DCs to cook in metric, when imperial is so much easier, or am I just getting old . Hmm, a theme seems to be emerging in this post.

Made a lovely chilli in the slow cooker today. Managed a fair amount of tidying and a general vacuum round downstairs today, not much else really, just mooching around with DD, who is still not 100% and just wants to watch telly all day (lets face it I'd quite like that from time to time too, although Numberjacks wouldn't be my first choice of entertainment). Not much other news Chez Dinky, so I will toddle off now. See you tomorrow.
