Happy New Year!

This is the place for you if you have made a New Year's Resolution to get on top of the chaos in your home

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Here you can find out what it is all about. Try to ignore the cutesy stuff - cute the regulars on here are not! We also take some of the suggestions with a HUGE dose of salt (look out for wearing tie up shoes in the house)

If you decide to register for the e-mail updates from flylady be warned: unless you choose the daily digest only option you will be innundated with e-mails throughout the day. I will post the links you need each day so you don't need to register on the site to join in.

Dive in and mark your place - we start on January 1st!

Morning all! Am sitting in pyjamas, which is not very Fly Lady but it is Sunday morning!
Right - today's jobs:
-hoover downstairs as not done yesterday
-go to Bottle Bank
-tackle heap of crap boxes and school bags
-tackle DD1's jumblesale bedroom - though she not feeling well (on antbiotics for infected toe and the blummin medicine seems to make her feel even worse!)
-decide if going to church
-think about taking decorations down - normally leave til 6th but back at work then - could leave til tomorrow I suppose
-check all homework done!
Think that's enough to start with. If don't do church could do all jobs this am (apart from bedroom) while DDs in bed - very tempting - and then go for nice walk this afternoon - and cleanliness is supposed to be next to Godliness! We'll see.....

droitwichmum · 03/01/2010 09:42

Good morning everyone!

Not read your posts as had to wrestle computer off DH who wants to play poker and DS is whinging because his favourite cat is with me and not him.

Had last lie in before back to work tomorrow hence late post!

Babystep is a consolidating one so just carry on shining that sink and getting dressed to shoes (I'm in my pjs and slippers ) and I'll be back later!

I promised some extra links today

Here is the link to working out of the home and keeping the flying going at home

This is the link to the Riley's challenges. These are for DCs to help out by tidying up their own mess! Good luck..

Hi all, thanks for the warm welcome - droitwich your posts are amazing, I have no idea how you manage to keep up with everyone.

ChaosTheory, whose name I love, I have a bit of an inner pedant - lose is when something's lost and loose is the opposite of tight.

Very Happy New Year to MrsGok, wish I had a great grandma like that

MiniMincemeat yep sorry, lots of lovely juicy mangoes here. I joined the veggers thread ages ago, where they refer to mangoes in a very derogatory fashion indeed cos they're so likely to go manky before they're ripe. Or else they just didn't like me...

Okay, getting dressed to shoes. I really can't do shoes inside, not culturally acceptable. I can commit to wearing lip balm, though (nearly makeup). The other thing is, I also have a NY resolution to do at least 15 mins yoga in the mornings, more if baby permitting . The 15 minutes is probably thanks to flylady actually, now I think of it. So I want to do yoga before showering & getting dressed, otherwise I'll be doing it twice.

Have had a good day today - dp took it upon himself to clean the bathroom, and we had company this afternoon so had to get the living room into half-decent shape. Sink is free of dishes and clean, but I'm getting the feeling that this shiny sink business is abit more involved than that - can someone link me? Thanks.

threetimemummy · 03/01/2010 10:12

[blush just got up as it was my sleep in morning!!!

Ok well I am going good on the two babysteps so far although I DONT wear shoes in the house and generally dont wear makeup But I promise I think about getting dressed!!! pmsl!!

Today we are basically straightening everything ready for the week! And also going and doing the groceries.

Although DH seems to have disappeared since I woke so have to go hunt him down.....

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 03/01/2010 10:39

Morning ladies. i had another lie in today and have had 20mins of my self alloted computer time. I am going to try very very hard to get sorted today. So the jobs are:

laundry - one load
Ironing
All clothes away
Filing paperwork
Look at what writen of essay, rewrite and have a point.
Identify what resources needed tomo
Sort out stuff for tomo morning's back to normal start.

I need to make an important discovery this week. I need to discover my floor. And it would be lovely if i could have a relaxing bedroom rather then a working bedroom. So need some tweaking for that.

Where can i find out what zone we are in on monday? is it posted yet?

I have also decided that saturday is trip/family activity day. So that will force me to chill and to follow the fat fairy's relax instructions. However as i am ds free almost every other weekend it means i can focus on work on those weekends as much as needed.

Anyone see me on here after 10:30pm tonight yell and shout at me. I need to be up for 5am tomo and need to kick start this sleep thing.

StainlessSteelCat · 03/01/2010 10:50

Morning all!

Another vomity house here DD spent all last evening awake, occaisionally screaming, then being cute again ... we assumed it was her being awkward cute for the fun of it, but after being grumpy all night, she threw up in her cot this morning. So that's another load of washing for the list ...

today:
baby step - waahay! read t'internet!
wash up
washing (must do DD's bedding!)
take down xmas tree
decorations into loft
buy shelves??

see y'all later

StillCounting · 03/01/2010 10:57

coffee break

(I am still only half way through no.1 task and I haven't stopped since I posted last) I think that illustrates the depths to which this house has sunk ...

first dw load on though and have cleaned out and re-lined both cutlery drawers ...

3timemummy - mmm, my dh has mysteriously disappeared now I am on a cleaning rampage ...and he made most of the mess in the kitchen!! (Can't really blame him though as he cooked most of the meals for our visitors) Shame about the footprints in batter across the hall though...

Mmmango - how fantastic to have a newbie from Thailand here ....we woke up to snow on the ground here (Belgium) for second time during Christmas hols ...15 mins yoga in the morning sounds wonderful ..

As ever, thank you for the links Droitwich and 'tis brilliant you had a lie-in. If anyone deserves one, it is you!!!

MissBennett have same dilemma as we normally go riding most Sunday mornings (too icy this morning) so we tend to go to church on Sat evenings(6.30pm) instead. We are RC (not very devout ones it has to be said ....)and it conveniently counts for mass next day nowadays ....do you have anything similar? Hope your dd1 feels better soon.

MrsGok more power to yr elbow with washing and washing up ... am doing the same....

BlackYellowRoad - I really sympathise as recycling rules very strict here and it makes doing any sort of chuck out (such as Flylady fling boogies) doubly complicated .. don't get me wrong, think it is something we should all be doing ...but crikey it involves mahoosive effort ... but we do have a weekly collection at least (and v. high taxes to fund it all!). The (hope apocryphal) story going around here is that every time you throw away a tea bag: the perforated paper bag should go in a yellow recycling bag, the metal stapler should go in the blue bag, the string should go in the ordinary white rubbish bags and the tea leaves should go on the commune's compost heap!!! [sigh]

Right ... now for laundry collection ....

elliepac · 03/01/2010 11:03

oh bugger, nothing done here. dc's are being rather demanding and dd has completely trashed the living room, hauling every toy out of its box etc. have now given up and will attempt a 2 hour mad fly while she is in bed.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 03/01/2010 11:09

Yep! I have to agree GG is the best. I was quite happy tosave for each thing but she wanted us to have the money. Though now some of it is going to have to go on a new syphon and toilet pan.

Have done a load of washing this am and the next is just going in when I've hung this lot up. 2 lots of clothes have gone up to the nice new wardrobes, straight in quickly and neatly as everything has it's place, 5 minutes max. Was really chuffed. Little things please little minds etc. Just off to start on the littlies bedroom.

Flamesparrow · 03/01/2010 11:12

Wow you lot talk a lot

I'd forgotten how nice it feels to come down in the morning to a clear sink. Off to throw some makeup at my face. I may even put slippers on.

Going to sort through the pj basket in a bit - it is overflowing and I am sure there are 12-18 month ones in there (DS is 4 in May... ok, he is small, but only a year behind!)

Bobbybee · 03/01/2010 11:14

Thanks Droitwich
You are very encouraging.
You're right, I did achieve lots.

So far I have done nothing today. I had a headache last night, had a bad night with ds2 and feel rubbish. I need to get a coffee and start doing stuff.

Unload and load dw
clean kitchen
laundry
ironing
cooking
get train ticket for tomorrow
get eyebrows done
hoover
mop

StillCounting · 03/01/2010 11:15

oops - sorry - that should have been BlackYellowRED - typing too fast - are you from Belgium/living in Belgium? - I am in Bxls

x posts

oh no, your poor dd SSC and you for having to do the sheets!! Hope she feels better soon ..

WhereChaosTheoryRules - love the nickname ...lol re: your floors; our bedroom floor has disappeared completely ...

Um, as I recall the zone for each week doesn't appear until Monday morning ....but Droitwich may know more ...

been scrolling for another Flying question somebody asked earlier ...can' find it ... off to hunt for socks ...

StillCounting · 03/01/2010 11:18

more x posts!!

Can't keep up ... leave the screen SC ...leave the screen

hope you feel better soon BobbyBee Flamesparrow - mea culpa - one of my new year's resolutions is to post more succinctly ..think I have failed already

Gok - yes tis amazing how accomplishing just a couple of small things can make huge difference - well done!

Flaps wings at everyone else....

StillCounting · 03/01/2010 11:20

Ellie - I feel your pain - dd has made huge 'cabin' in sitting room with throws and cushions from sofas and blankets from her bed ... as fast as I am dismantling it at one end, she is reconstructing it at other...

Mmmango · 03/01/2010 11:30

"I need to discover my floor" Our bedroom floor has been MIA for some time
StillCounting, in my mind belgium = chocolate, although I'm not envious of your weather

MrsDinky · 03/01/2010 11:37

Haha, I was just busy wondering where my bedroom floor had gone, it becomes the default dumping ground for all the downstairs crap when visitirs are coming!

SC - my DD id permanently making houses in the front room too, has a big flattened box to use as a roof, looks terrible. Both my two most days bring all their bedding downstairs to play "camping".

Better go, have done nothing constructive today apart from Swish and swipe.

See you later

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 03/01/2010 11:42

Just taking my break.

Diet coke is keeping me going at the moment. I'm trying to also do things like if I have to go upstairs then I will take something up with me and vice versa. It don't half help.

Bobbybee hope your DC is feeling better soon and you to.

BlackYellowRed · 03/01/2010 11:45

StillCounting I am Belgian, moved to Nottingham in 2000! I used to live near Sint-Niklaas & Antwerp.

swanriver · 03/01/2010 11:45

We didn't go to church this morning for sake of familyharmony. Really need to sort out the Sunday Organising and get meal ready on Saturday so things run a bit more smoothly, as this is always a stumbling block.

Our bedroom has become a bit more haven like since I chipped away it over hols. New duvet, clothes hung up etc, dh thrown away hsmotheaten sweaters (welll some of them)
Medicines, and makeup rearranged in neat boxes

Still remains a pile of rubbish for tip on upstairs landing
Pile of old paperwork to be chucked/lofted in corner of bedroom
My old coursework looking reproachfully from corner behind wardrobe - might I actually look at it this year?

Kitchen is tidyish
Floor hasn't been washed for aeons, though keep scrubbing the bit near the catfood
Scrubbed paintwork by loo with a toothbrush for 15mins after seeing how dirty it was when in bath...[drop in the ocean emoticon]

Playroom needs a hoover as does stairs..

Monday will try and tackle these things.

SCC - poor you
Ellie - that sounds a familiar scene, I am now taking ds2 for a run he has written another thankyou letter HURRAH rather like a goose laying a golden egg in this house.

BlackYellowRed · 03/01/2010 11:48

Anyway, need to get off my lazy bum if I am going to get any of that stuff on the list done. DH is up now he can look after our two monkeys (=children) while I got showered and do some work.

Flamesparrow · 03/01/2010 11:55

Houses are meant to have floors?!?!?!

My car won't start. It has been playing up in cold weather for a while. It did it last year in the snow (we've not have any soddin snow this time round), it was a new (to us) car, and the guy from the garage came round and supposedly gave us a new battery (no paperwork for it) - interesting that it is happening again now in the same conditions...

elliepac · 03/01/2010 12:40

flamesparrow i find the having floors thing overrated much easier to have everything all over the floor and then at least you know it's on the floor when you want to find it i can currently find every single one of dd's toys, all my washing and every single item that was in my handbag .

am just checking in before i go on a mammoth fly. dd just gone to bed, ds told to go up to his room or he will be asked to help (never seen him move so fast ) and dh told to either help or, more likely, just to stay out of my way (think i would actually prefer the latter anyway )

into the breach i go....wish me luck..i may be some time

MiniMincemeat · 03/01/2010 13:00
