Decluttering Thread 13 - Hopefully Lucky For Some!

Good morning fellow sorters, chuckers & sellers! Starting a new thread as No 12 was almost full. This thread is one of my favourites & I find it hugely inspiring. I have a very long way to go as my house still resembles a jumble sale but I have got rid of a lot over the last few months plus made some money into the bargain. Last night I transferred several carrier bags of clothes that are on Vinted into a pink velvet storage chest that, ironically, hadn’t been assembled & was taking up space in DH’s office 🤣🤣🤣 It’s now in front of the storage cubes in the lounge & honestly, the pleasure I get from seeing it & the space created is immense.
I need a day to dedicate to Vinted as I have bags of clothes still to photograph & upload, some clothes to try on which may end up on there too & some TJC rings to photograph for selling. They were quite expensive but I rarely wore them & now they’re too big. I have a huge car bill to pay so the extra pennies will be great. Have a productive day all!

Small shoebox of bits and pieces sorted, handful of old crafts into bin.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 27/06/2026 20:48

Sold a bangle on Vinted that I only uploaded this morning. Kinda wish I’d put a higher price on it but don’t think it cost very much in the first place. The spinner ring has been favourited at least 20 times. Also sorted a joblot of jewellery that I bought on Vinted for £12. Some lovely pieces once it was all untangled & I’ll make a good profit.

I have given up on Vinted and donated all of the clothes that no longer fit. Just can not be arsed anymore. About 15 bags when to the charity shoptoday. I have given up counting as just wanted it gone.

I'm going to aim.to get rid of ten things a day at least. I have a collection from Anglo for mid week too. Really need to make room for ds and all of his uni stuff and collecting him next week..

I'm kind of the same. I sold a slightly pricier top and shorts which will make me £40, and after that clears, I'll charity shop the rest. I can't be bothered with the hassle of a fiver here and there. I've sold all the good stuff now.

Last few weekends we've had school fairs and other summer fairs and I feel like I've been running a book/toy exchange 😂DC has been good at letting go of things but after each fair, new things have come back with us! I've tried to keep a tally:

Out: 38 books, 10 toys, 2 kids jeans, 2 vinted sales, a Halloween decoration, a flannel, 2 more academic papers, 3 kids colouring books. Total for the year, 560

In, lego set, board game, 7 books, DH shorts, dress for me. Total for the year=192

DH is cleaning his office/our office, and the living room. He said he is adopting a "fuck it, chuck it" attitude 😂 suddenly coming to a conclusion that we really dont want to move old crap to a new home.

I'm going to through lots of papers!

IncessantNameChanger · 28/06/2026 17:22

Do you think I should start counting again? I have really fallen off the wagon recently

RubySparrow · 28/06/2026 21:17

I doing more fuck it chuck it, it’s quite freeing. Have to keep telling myself not to feel guilty.
I have put a bag of old tea towels in my husband’s shed to use when he is fixing things and told to just bin once dirty
My adult children are driving me insane. More collectibles, than stay downstairs in the way for weeks.
Any shampoo or skin product that they don’t like just dumped in the bathroom and told that we can use!! As was expensive and we aren’t to waste it!! It’s a good job I love them!

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 28/06/2026 22:51

Out - six vhs tapes, one broken alice band.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 29/06/2026 11:15

Emptied the airing cupboard yesterday. (Built in wardrobe in single room that DH shelved ). Sorted all the bedding putting several worn sheets aside for material recycling and a couple of nice duvet sets for the charity shop alongside some suitcases.

six suitcases of various sizes (that were in limbo from loft) waiting on landing to go back in the loft. I couldn’t get rid of the curtains they are far too good so they are going back in the loft as well.

Single room, almost back to guest ready. I’ve got a snotty cold so I’m having a rest day.

double spare bedroom Next, which is also my Craft and Sewing room. In theory this should be the easiest one to deal with, but I’m conscious of the fact that I am a bit of a hoarder when it comes to fabric and notions.

Plan of action tomorrow is to sort airing cupboard out as it's my day off 👍

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 29/06/2026 21:49

Couldn’t help myself - popped into the charity shop after posting a Vinted parcel & ended up spending £35. Some great things though! Most will be uploaded on you know where! Now I need to find more to get rid of whilst waiting for my stuff to sell.

I have decluttered 7lbs in the last 3 weeks, 5 tea towels, half a dozen books and cleared off the kitchen side and put things in their right homes.
However, I also spent £40 on Minky cleaning stuff on tiktok but at least the house is cleaner.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 29/06/2026 22:42

Out - eleven vhs tapes

Moved an annoying piece of furniture into the junk room.
Found a stack of brand new school shirts. Will declutter old shirts tomorrow.
Found a suitable box for emptying bureau drawers for sorting contents tomorrow.

Trying to get back to half an hour every day in the garage. Actually splitting it into three ten minutes sessions as still not well but can’t stand looking at it (well more accurately closing the door on it) anymore and I almost can’t get to the freezer.

1 x trousers that don't hang right
1 x skirt never quite matches anything

Forgot I have a bag of jewellery from the joblot plus an unopened pack of plus size pants on the hall windowsill ( will go to charity). Also have some unworn incontinence pants which I’m hoping a local care home will take.

Another thirteen vhs tapes out. Almost everything available on streaming.

One pair outgrown school trousers and two pairs socks. One unopened and outgrown pack of five shirts.

One holey sock into ragbag.

Two heavy-duty kids’ trikes to friend to sell. One princess dress to sell.

From time to time I add a book to the charity shop pile.

Pigtailsandall · 03/07/2026 11:01

Hello all! So after our fuck it, chuck it -weekend we have spent the week getting rid of things in various ways - lots of stuff went on the "wall-mart", few things, like excess mugs, I took to our office; few things sold and a small bag went to the charity shop. Not everything has yet left the house (electronics which need to be wiped etc) so I'm not yet counting those, but we did do well.

Firstly, few things came in: 4 uniform bits from second-hand sale; 2 books, and one shirt for me

Outs:
Toddler book shelf unit
Storage chest
broken garden chair
old mop (these were all collected yesterday by the council, hurrah)
toy car
7 pieces of old/tarnished jewellery
pile of tags
pot full of shells
6 big CD storage cases
27 big books
dictionary
marker
2 used up kids school exercise books
ear defenders
clock radio
2 mugs
robot hoover
38 CDs
bath toy
Kids coat
boardgame
kids cupcake stand
Assorted kids play cutlery, counting as one thing
2 old deodorants of DH
ceramic pot
pair of hiking shorts

Total ins= 199
Total outs= 662

And we have a chest of drawers nearly empty! DH still had piles of old CDs we need to figure out how to dispose of.
