Setting up to start tomorrow. I wanted to make the title That's Not Flying, It's Falling With Style, as an acknowledgement to the number of times I have fallen off the flylady wagon. But I wasn't brave enough.
"Flybabies" old and new all welcome!

Thank you for volunteering to run the new thread for March!
I'm so ready for spring that I've already changed my name! Not that we had much of a winter here.

Alwaysgrowing · 01/03/2026 07:05

Thanks winterfrogs. And thanks hazel for last month. It definitely felt like spring some days this week. I've updated my name here and on finch and am sharing my Finch code, if any of you would like to be friends on finch. My 7 year old liked the Alice in Wonderland adventure on finch as she did it at school. DF1NG27D86

I'm quite busy and very tired and am going for an interview at work soon, which I've prograstinated thinking about/planning for. Also picking up more overtime, including a few hours tomorrow.

WinterFrogs · 01/03/2026 07:07

Morning all! Thank you Hazel for last month's thread!
I can hear birdsong outside so spring is in the air, but it's still raining!
Welcome one and all! We're here to gently change our habits and develop good household routines with a bit of self care thrown in.

Watch this space as I am new to this and have yet to work out how to share the flylady links. For now, siffice to say that Sunday is Renew Your Spirit Day so there are no missions today. Do something you love whether it's reading, hiking, going to a place of worship or anything in between!

This month's habit is the least popular one of 'getting dressed to lace up shoes'. Basically get dressed because it improves your mood and motivation. Not everyone wants to wear shoes in the house though, and nobody on this thread will try to make you! If you're throwing yourself into this wholeheartedly though, it's clean lace up shoes ( tbh I do wear indoor shoes otherwise my plantar fasciitis flares up, but I never wear them outside)

Jump in where you are simply means don't try to do everything all at once, or you'll burn out and get sick of housework very quickly.
Your house didn't get into a mess overnight, and you won't fix it overnight either. But by using simple routines and taking baby steps, it's surprising how quickly things will improve 💕

I will be back later. Welcome, new and old posters. The kettle's on and we are ready to FLY!

I love being barefoot myself, but get the planterfacietis, as I had painful feet without the support of shoes the last week of my last pregnancy. I am honestly in 2 minds about barefoot, because it makes a lot of sense, the health and sensory benefits of barefoot, but I have got partially flat feet (since 2nd pregnancy) which gave me knee pain and a physio recommended shoes with good arch support. At the moment I'm going barefoot at home and arch support shoes out...and don't get me started on what shoes I should get my children. I feel guilty I could be deformity their feet, based on barefoot shoes adverts....My daughters school shoes are currently a barefoot style, Italian brand I think she finds comfy, but they've worn very quickly,. Before that she had a chunky boys next shoes, we went through a few uncomfortable and school fragile shoes to begin with before Finding the next shoes, so we got a few of them as she grew. But she decided she wanted girly ones this year. My 3 year old would live in wellies, currently has some very chunky, light up cheap trainers. He's on the second percentile for height and knows he's little now, so something to make him a little taller is nice... might get him into the theme park rides he'd love.

Hope you've enjoyed my shoe ramble. I'll go finish my morning routine now.

DillyDeclutter · 01/03/2026 09:10

Morning! Thank you for the new thread Winterfrogs and thank you for last months Hazel.

We are a shoes off house and I faff on getting to the nearest (very expensive) barefoot shoes shop for the kids, but I wore awful shoes as a child and my feet are fine so sometimes I wonder why I bother! But obviously mum guilt is very real.

My Finch has provided me with a 14 step cleaning challenge this morning. Step 1 is open the windows - it's 6 degrees outside so maybe not today! It does feel like spring is coming though.

THAThotcrossbunny · 01/03/2026 12:37

Happy march all

Definitely looking for signs of spring here, its been such a dark wet winter

🌱🐰🐣

I'm adding the babysteps link from a different website too because I can't find anything on flylady.net
https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/

Hope it might be useful. I'm using the flylady app now and it turns out that I get more done when I have app things to tick off

This too - a bit cringy sometimes but there are definitely gold nuggets in there:
https://example.com/morning-musing
Well that didn't work...can anyone help? J can't make the flylady links, link 😫

Thank you @WinterFrogs I always like it when someone new runs the thread because it puts a different spin on it and freshens it up. Thank you also @BloomingHazel for last month.

Was that second link from fhe Flylady website @WinterFrogs ?

BloomingHazel · 01/03/2026 20:22

@Alwaysgrowing I sent you a friend request on Finch. I'm so excited that they have a spring cleaning challenge 😁 6EG2RPGXYW is my code if anyone wants to join me too!

@WinterFrogs the website with the baby steps is what I used last month, seemed to work okay.

We are a shoes off household as well, although I'm hoping I'll get some slippers for my birthday from DH that have good arch support. My feet are awful (so ugly, I hate them!), but inherited. My Nana's were bad (toes are scrunched up, huge ball on our feet and high arches), I have feet that way, so does DD, and at least one of my nephews. Not sure about my brother's though. My mum used to tell me to stop wearing shoes too small for me, but I wasn't!
I like to be barefoot, but they do hurt by the end of the day if I don't sit down at all.

Ta das so far today:
🍀 LOLs x3
🍀 handwash dishes
🍀 rotated DW
🍀 meal planning (except the meal DS needs to cook)

I didn't get everything done yesterday that I wanted to, so I plan to do some of that today:
🍓 bathe dogs
🍓 wash dog beds & blankets
🍓 bleach bathrooms
Plus I need to go grocery shopping still 😩

ExcellentDaydream · 01/03/2026 21:11

I have sent Finch friend requests to you both @Alwaysgrowing and @BloomingHazel

I've got the 14 day housework challenge too. There is a lot to the app, I keep discovering new things

ExcellentDaydream · 01/03/2026 21:17

My Finch code is J887G2EKFR if anyone else wants to join

WinterFrogs · 02/03/2026 06:56

I don't seem to be able to improve my attempt to share this morning. It's coming up as example again.

Here's the second baby step
https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/2/

We are in zone one this week, whuch is the front porch, the entrance area and the dining room. Today's mission is to spend fifteen minutes getting rid of anything that doesn't belong in the porch or front entrance. Just do what you can in fifteen minutes!

Today's reminders:
Make bed
Get dressed ( to shoes?)
Swish and swipe
Check your calendar.
Check if you need to do laundry
What's for dinner?

Traditionally Monday is daily 'blessing' otherwise known as 'bleugh'. The app gives the opportunity to tick tasks off across the week which suits me.

Change bedding
Dust
Vacuum
Empty bins
Mop hard floors
Purge magazines
Clean mirrors and doors

Only spend max ten mins on each task - the goal is progress, not perfection!

Thank you for your help, @BloomingHazel and @ExcellentDaydream with the links. I was trying to do the musing link from the flylady website. Maybe it's because I'm trying to do it from my phone.

Interesting to see the comments about feet and shoes.

My lovely new bedsheet that I bought too big fits beautifully after being washed and tumble dried.

I took renew your spirit very seriously indeed yesterday and spent a lot of it with my nose in a book, visited my mum and helped out at a horse sanctuary where I am a volunteer.

Today is looking busy and I can't get up till I have done connections so I had better get a move on! Have a great day everyone!

OP posts:
ExcellentDaydream · 02/03/2026 08:47

Re shoes, I don't do barefoot much as I am also prone to plantar fasciitis so I wear slippers most of the time, we are relaxed about shoes off/on, generally it's off but not strict about it and we all go in and out of the garden a lot in our indoor shoes. My "getting dressed to" thing is contact lenses, I don't feel properly ready to face the day till they are in and glasses put away for the day (I'm blind as a bat so wear glasses till the contacts go in).

THAThotcrossbunny · 02/03/2026 18:05

There was chat about it at theback of the last thread @THAThotcrossbunny

I don't need any excuse to be on my phone more, or long lists of things to do so I haven't got it. But it's an app of some sort

OP posts:
DillyDeclutter · 02/03/2026 19:21

Finch is a silly app that I use to gamify my to do list. When you tick off your tasks you get points and you can use your points to dress your little bird, or take it travelling. The basic is free and I've found it works well for me.

I have clean my car as a weekly task, pick up for five minutes as a daily task, etc. I also have anti-procrastination as a daily task!

Yes, I also need to spend less time on my phone . . .

ExcellentDaydream · 02/03/2026 22:45

I have to say, I very rarely stick at things for long (I know I have been on these threads a long time but I haven't always been doing much Flying) but Finch combined with launchpads and improved household routines is really helping me this year. I am on a 40 day streak with Finch, my little bird is so cute. I've mainly being using it for self care until now but have just added a few more house things. Habit stacking is the other thing that's helping, so I do some standing exercises every time I go in the bathroom, put things out on my dressing table launchpad before bed etc.

ExcellentDaydream · 02/03/2026 22:53

Tada!
✅fed cats
✅exercise clothes on (put out last night) and out for a quick run (10 mins)
✅brought bin back in
✅very short weights routine
✅packed lunch (made last night) out of fridge and onto hall table launchpad
✅checked car tyre pressures (long story)
✅put laundry on
✅shower and dress (clothes out last night)
✅work
✅rang DS at 10 to tell him to hang out the laundry
✅picked DS up on the way home from work
✅car to Kwik Fit briefly
✅got laundry in
✅zumba and yoga classes
✅paperwork and a bite to eat (toast and peanut butter)
✅made packed breakfast and lunch for tomorrow
✅shower again
just need to put clothes out for tomorrow now.

I haven’t done any zone or home blessing work though, but we changed the sheets yesterday and will do the other HB things through the week. Our window cleaner has gone AWOL (possibly permanently) and the windows badly need doing. Might try at the weekend (they turn inwards).

WinterFrogs · 03/03/2026 08:37

Go you @ExcellentDaydream! Impressed.
We are much the same about shoes here really.

Day 3 of babysteps for anyone starting out or catching up
https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/3/

Today's mission is to sweep around the front door area, shake out mats and wipe round your front door.

The daily blurb is about putting on shoes, and how even if you don't want to why not just give it a go for the month.

OP posts:
WinterFrogs · 03/03/2026 08:40

I have ticked off all the morning routines and cleaned the door shelves in my fridge, but haven't done the mission yet.

Must get to work. Actual work not housework. So I will do the door and doorstep later. I will feel quite like my granny, scrubbing the doorstep. I wonder how she did it. Must ask my mother. She'll probably remember. She grew up in a little house that opened straight onto the street.

OP posts:
ExcellentDaydream · 03/03/2026 20:39

Ha, well today has been a bit of a contrast. I developed a stomach upset overnight, was in and out of the bathroom all night and have spent virtually the whole of today in bed (with my cat). So literally nothing done. Never mind. Feeling a bit better tonight but will probably stay off work again tomorrow, I have bern incredibly busy recently and want to allow myself time to recover properly.
