Setting up to start tomorrow. I wanted to make the title That's Not Flying, It's Falling With Style, as an acknowledgement to the number of times I have fallen off the flylady wagon. But I wasn't brave enough.
"Flybabies" old and new all welcome!

Oh ED I hope you get over the bug quickly 💐 taking an extra day is a very good idea.

WinterFrogs I would like to know the best way to scrub the doorstep! I haven't tried at all, but our main door (side door) step is so dirty looking, it really bothers me sometimes!

THAT Finch is new to me, but a cute app that's actually helping me with my self care routines. I need to copy Dilly & Always and add some housework routines also.

Ta das:
🍀 spin bike workout (it's been a while..)
🍀 shower & dressed
🍀 LOLs x7
🍀 vacuumed
🍀 mopped
🍀 wiped all door handles & light switches (per spring cleaning challenge with Finch)
🍀 deep cleaned both bathrooms
🍀 whitened grout on floor in main bathroom (I'm pretty sure it's the supposed to be the tan colour it is, but still looks grubby to me, so I like to lighten it up, and it's been a while)
🍀 cleaned both shower curtains
🍀 cleaned mirrors
🍀 swept front porch
🍀 swept carport
🍀 got my lunch ready for tomorrow

I still need to get my clothes out for tomorrow and take a shower, along with doing some yoga tonight before bed.
It felt like spring outside today, so I had doors & windows open for most of the day!

Morning. Just to keep on a roll ( such a responsibility, this 😆) here is the messy site's link to babystep #4
https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/4/

We're in zone one this week and that is porch/entrance area, dining room and back patio.
Today's mission is to spend 15 minutes in your dining room getting rid of things that don't belong in there. Just 15 mins - no need to go mad!

Morning musing is about taking care of yourself. I think it's a nice one and very relevant to those of us attempting to avoid chaos as it's about doing things when they need doing so they don't build up. Still not managing to link so if anyone fancies dropping it into the thread I'd be grateful 🙏

Sorry to hear you are not well ED. Good idea to have an R&R day.

Hazel I am seeing my mother today and will ask the doorstep question and report back! Fabulous list of tadas you've got there 👌

I've added my short morning exercise routine and brushing the cat to the routines in the Flylady app.

Still considering looking at Finch, but wary of getting overwhelmed.

Yesterday I wiped the front door and swept the steps. That task is a good reminder as not something I'd think of all by myself. Bashed the doormat against a wall. Oh for a carpet beater!

I'm pondering on celebrating by buying a plant and pot to go on the front step. How domesticated would that be?!

Hope you all have an excellent day 😀

Ah nevermind thanks for checking

CherryogDog · 04/03/2026 23:58

@WinterFrogs thanks for new thread, and thanks @BloomingHazel for last month's.
I've been lurking in the sick/naughty/totally unmotivated corner for ages.
Gave myself a kick up the bum, put my giant pile of laundry away, and started deep cleaning of the dog/boot room.
Cleared out the cupboard and threw random stuff "that might come in useful" away. Washed the dog beds.
Will finish that tomorrow and then start in the dining room which as usual has become a dumping ground for all sorts.
Nice to be back!

CabbagesCabbagesBarelyEvenHuman · 05/03/2026 01:27

Dipping in to say hi everyone and that I've also been using Finch since January and it's been brilliant! I'm slowly adding fly lady things in.

Today I took an old toaster to small appliance recycling at B&Q. We've moved house twice with this broken toaster. Accepted that I'm not going to fix it or sell it as spares and just let it go on to the big toaster farm in the sky. Found four bags of barbecue brickettes in the garage too. Have also moved twice with those... hmmn...

CabbagesCabbagesBarelyEvenHuman · 05/03/2026 01:30

Ps also a shoes off household AND just the other side of a bout of plantar fascitis!

Positivepositron · 05/03/2026 06:47

I used to be on these threads with a different name many years ago. Think I did a few months. Well I'm back.
I am not managing many of the tasks at the moment.
Regular loading and unloading of dishwasher and washing machine are habits that stuck from flylady last time.
Does anyone edit the flylady lists? I did last time but can't remember the changes I made.
Yesterday did a pretty thorough hoovering of whole house and cleaned kitchen surfaces. I've cleaned the banisters and door frames across whole house on Monday. Took a while as long overdue.

Here's today's babystep not from Flylady's website.
Mission for today is dust the dining room and make sure you look up for cobwebs and down for dust bunnies around the skirting boards.

I don't have a dishwasher, hence 'wash up and put away' which is only breakfast anyway. I'd take a tumble dryer over a dishwasher any day of the week.

We 'take in laundry' every now and again when our adult children get swamped with washing and can't get it dry, though less now as one has just bought a tumbler and another has just moved to an area where there is a local laundrette which is handy.

A reminder for anyone new to Flylady to take a look at Flylady.net which still won't let me link but will come up if you google flylady. Cynical me is assuming that it's trying to make people download the app. The old site was like a treasure chest with help with holiday periods and Christmas and moving planning but it's either become very basic or I'm being dim as I can't find any of it.

Chuckling at my incompetence...me me, I'll do it, promptly falls at first hurdle 😆

Welcome @Alwaysgrowing @CabbagesCabbagesBarelyEvenHuman and @CherryogDog @Positivepositron @DillyDeclutter

Progress not perfection is such a great mantra. It pops up on my health app too.

Sorry to hear you have been unwell @CherryogDog . We've all been there in the naughty corner. I keep coming back to flylady as I am genuinely a nicer human when I follow the routines.

Had to laugh at moving house twice and taking broken things with you. I have the world's most expensive bicycle which I've had for at least six years and ridden precisely once.

I'm off to do routines and decluttering because the conversation has brought to mind a friend who is a hoarder and I get the itch to get rid of things whenever I think of that home.

Have a great and gently productive day everyone and please excuse my stream of consciousness this morning ☕️ 🍰

DillyDeclutter · 05/03/2026 07:33

Morning! Well, my fridge is clean and my washing out. We have a kitchen diner and it definitely needs dusting. I'll put it on today's already long list!

I had a cupboard full of sheets with holes in so I put them in my car boot where they've been since January. Today's task is to take them to the dog shelter, which is near to the car wash, so we'll try to do both together . . .

Searchingforsparkle · 05/03/2026 07:46

Hello, I hope everyone is well ? Please may I rejoin? I have fallen off many, many times , when I forget about the routine , I scrape by for a little while until I eventually end up back in utter chaos ! When dd1 has been coming back from uni , she comments on how much more tidy the home looks so the decluttering is definitely working its magic but I can see the home slipping again . I have just over an hour in between my 2 jobs this afternoon from around 2-3 and I’m going to see how much of the home bleurgh I can get done as a bit of a reset 🙂 heading out to job number 1 soon so hopefully I’ll be back with a tada this afternoon!

Positivepositron · 05/03/2026 16:06

Hoovering yesterday and steam cleaned kitchen today. Trying to work my way through the weekly home blessings.
Definitely would take me longer than an hour though. Sweeping and hoovering house took 40 minutes ish and steam cleaning just the kitchen took 15 minutes. Need to do bathroom and living room as well.

CherryogDog · 05/03/2026 21:29

Such a lovely warm day that I had to be strong willed to stay in and clean when I wanted to do fun stuff outside!
✅️ drum clean, drain and filter wash.
✅️ washed all my winter coats (weather will now get bad, sorry!)
✅️ pulled all the random crap out of coat cupboard and put it away.
✅️ swept dining room.
✅️ moaned at DP for not sorting out the box of random light fittings/ bulbs that I've asked him to do three times already.
✅️ went through some paperwork, collected up all the paper and cardboard recycling that seems to be breeding everywhere.
Then slumped on the sofa with a migraine.

ExcellentDaydream · 05/03/2026 21:58

Welcome back everyone. @Positivepositron did you have a different name with Positive in it way back?

Been out most of the day and evening and spent the bit in the middle helping DS with a job application. Managed 1xLOL and DS did a few other jobs. Off to bed now, that’s a babystep I’m not very good at.

BloomingHazel · 06/03/2026 03:26

Welcome back Cherry Cabbage Positive & Searching 👋

I've not really got anything to add! Been at work all day, trying to keep warm (winter storm came in today, snow didn't stick, but the wind is freezing).
I do already have my lunch ready for tomorrow, just need to get my clothes ready now, shower and bed

Alwaysgrowing · 06/03/2026 05:46

Hazel, hope you warmed up nicely. We have the opposite warm spring days after much rain this year. Little bit of frost this morning but t-shirt weather by lunchtime. The hospital central heating does not cope with changing weather so indoors was too hot, Aircon in one room broke so used a fan. (we have terrible centralised heating fighting local Aircon units and they ask where NHS money goes).

Welcome back. I felt exhausted last night, looked at the sink then went to bed before 8 and have slept nearly 10 hours. So I'll start by cleaning the sink and unloading the dishwasher.

Searchingforsparkle · 06/03/2026 06:43

Good morning ☕️
I had to stay at job no.1 yesterday due to staff shortages, I did still manage to tidy and hoover the stairs , living and dining room so I made a start on returning the house into a home before going to job no.2 🙂
I haven’t got work this evening and I should finish work, schools pickups, cooking and kids clubs drop offs by about 6ish ,so my plan is to reset the kitchen and bathroom, not deep clean just a once over . I have lots of things to organise for tomorrow , we’re at a competition early in the morning for dd2 then I’m at work at 3 so there won’t be much wiggle room time wise. Hopefully organising things this evening will help things run smoothly !
Hope everyone has a good day , fingers crossed the sun stays with us in the uk and the storm eases for you @BloomingHazel

WinterFrogs · 06/03/2026 07:20

Hello everyone! I will drop links and whatnot later on. Welcome @Searchingforsparkle you are in the right place! My house definitely sparkles more when I stick to the routines, and then I feel more sparkly as a result 🌟

There was once a Daily Nag Morning Musing about not sticking to the process and spending too long on the weekly chores. Theory being that if you take more than ten mins on hoovering or mopping etc you are being A Perfectionist ( I am saying this with a wry smile - I've been doing FL for too long!) Anyway the idea as I'm sure you all know is that it's Progress Not Perfection, and just a quick mop or flit with the hoover is what Home Blessing Bleugh is all about, and if you follow the script you will end up being more thorough by doing daily missions and getting rid of clutter etc ( in my case the kids finally growing up and leaving home, followed by ex husband and his hoard made the biggest difference but I digress 🤣)

Here endeth the lesson 😎

Anyway I do actually think she's got a point, because if you spend too much time on one task the others get overlooked or you run out of time. 'Good Enough' is the aim really, because i think she's spotted that procrastination is perfectionism in disguise, and often points out that if you think you haven't got time to do a task properly then you (me anyway) don't do it at all.

I'm here now so here is the babystep link

Today's mission is to take a feather duster and gently dust your pot plants and generally give them some love.

There's also some blurb on the app about dealing with cobwebs in entrance area, patio etc and wiping down skirting boards but only in Zone One ( Porch, entrance, dining room, patio if you have one) But these are things to do once you have the daily routines and the daily missions done and have got your decluttering underway)

Have a lovely day everybody. If anyone can manage to link anything from the flylady site please feel free.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's updates 💕
