Setting up to start tomorrow. I wanted to make the title That's Not Flying, It's Falling With Style, as an acknowledgement to the number of times I have fallen off the flylady wagon. But I wasn't brave enough.
"Flybabies" old and new all welcome!

Kitchen sink is clean now this morning and dishwashers rotated. I'm off to take the children and go to work. This weekend I well dig out my paper control journal.

CherryogDog · 06/03/2026 09:01

The cobwebs breed in my house, it's permanently Halloween ready 😆
DP is looking after the horses today so I can crack on, I'm doing his LOLs for him.
Floor washing, putting my LOLs away, general tidying and decluttering on my ToDo list, and a trip to Lidl for our date night tonight, can't get more romantic than thar, ay ladies 😅

Hello everyone! I will drop links and whatnot later on. Welcome @Searchingforsparkle you are in the right place! My house definitely sparkles more when I stick to the routines, and then I feel more sparkly as a result 🌟

There was once a Daily Nag Morning Musing about not sticking to the process and spending too long on the weekly chores. Theory being that if you take more than ten mins on hoovering or mopping etc you are being A Perfectionist ( I am saying this with a wry smile - I've been doing FL for too long!) Anyway the idea as I'm sure you all know is that it's Progress Not Perfection, and just a quick mop or flit with the hoover is what Home Blessing Bleugh is all about, and if you follow the script you will end up being more thorough by doing daily missions and getting rid of clutter etc ( in my case the kids finally growing up and leaving home, followed by ex husband and his hoard made the biggest difference but I digress 🤣)

Here endeth the lesson 😎

Anyway I do actually think she's got a point, because if you spend too much time on one task the others get overlooked or you run out of time. 'Good Enough' is the aim really, because i think she's spotted that procrastination is perfectionism in disguise, and often points out that if you think you haven't got time to do a task properly then you (me anyway) don't do it at all.

I'm here now so here is the babystep link

Edited

Thank you for the point about progress not perfection. It's a tricky old balance isn't it. If I'd done a less good mop it would have just been moving much around. But if I only manage kitchen this week, bathroom and living room could be next week. Then following week I might be able to do all 3.
This morning I've fed the birds, laundry on, cleaned window sills in youngest sons room, emptied dishwasher.
Aiming to clean the last two door frames of the house. And dust tops of my bedroom wardrobes, long overdue.

It's a bit of a weird zone this week as it doesn't reflect my house that well. I was aiming to tackle porch and dining side of kitchen.

Today's task is easy as I have no indoor plants. Which is why I'm swapping out for doors and wardrobes.

Searchingforsparkle · 06/03/2026 18:49

Thanks for the welcome back 💐

Perfectionism really does hold me back @WinterFrogs, must work on the mindset of something is better than nothing !

I haven’t been home long , just grabbed a coffee and something to eat . It’s later than I thought so I’m going to have an hour, prioritise organising for tomorrows early start and see if I can fit anything else into that time . I’ll be back soon with a tada list !

Searchingforsparkle · 06/03/2026 21:27

Tada
🥳 all organised for the early start tomorrow , bags packed , lunch / snacks prepped , clothes ironed
🥳 showered and hair dried
🥳 DW on
🥳 washing hung up

ExcellentDaydream · 06/03/2026 22:11

Felt back to normal for the first time after my bug earlier in the week. Still had a fairly steady day though don't want to make myself ill again.

Tada!
✅3xLOL (1 clothes, 2 towels and bathmats)
✅DW rotated
✅light switches and handles cleaned (Finch challenge)
✅upstairs waste paper bins emptied
✅top up shop and put away
✅various bits of parent related admin and a bit of my own
✅helped DS with proofreading cover letter and CV for a job,
✅lazy Waitrose meal deal dinner (date night)

If anyone else would like to be Finch friends, those of this that have buddied up are all using variations on our MN names so we can recognise each other but maintain privacy. It really is motivating.

BloomingHazel · 07/03/2026 05:14

ED I'm glad you're feeling better! I'm enjoying Finch, I'll need to start adding in some flylady routines as well.

I think the cold has moved along, it seems anyway. It warmed up quite a bit this afternoon, even though the wind was still a little chilly.

I am so glad the weekend is here, today was rough at work.

Morning all just throwing this here.

Saturday is family fun day so there is no mission. Go and do something with your family or a friend or a pet, or something fun by yourself.

No mission is no excuse to ignore the daily routines though, so still get up and dressed, put a wash on, eat your breakfast and remember meds for anyone who needs them ( my cat meds are on my list, and also mine) Drink water, do the odd little hotspot, shine your sink, get rid of a bit of clutter ( deleting stuff from phone counts) and lace up your shoes!! or put your contacts in or whatever does it for you!

Clocks change next week and there's a little essay in the app from her good self about gradually changing the times you do things if you can, so it's not such a shock for people who find the change bewildering next week.

Start getting up 5 min earlier each day for example.

Missing the laugh emoji @CherryogDog romance in your house sounds much the same as in mine.

Love is...getting a new wheelbarrow for your birthday etc ( horse person here also, and doing the horses so i can do flying has been known to happen, otherwise me coming in muddy with straw in my hair and being met with a plate of dinner....now that's love!)

CherryogDog · 07/03/2026 09:01

@WinterFrogs I moan a lot about my DP not helping with cleaning, but he fetches my hay, empties the muck trailer, sorts the fencing etc etc.
He's currently waiting for his hernia repair, the surgery keeps getting postponed for one reason or another, so he can't walk far. He's filling haynets in exchange for me doing all the dog walks.

Yesterday I washed the kitchen and dog room floors, they were minging! Definitely something I intend to do more often.
I have an annoying mindset, I see some dirt / mess that would take a couple of minutes to sort, but don't because really the whole room needs a clean and don't have the energy or time for it.
But although all the kitchen worktops need clearing and cleaning (today's flying), I still washed the floor so that's a win in my eyes.
Didn't go shopping last night, we're doing it today (Satur'date 😆), and going to drop my three bags of my clothes in the charity bin while we're in town.
Happy flying everyone.
Ps @WinterFrogs the new website is much easier to use.

Alwaysgrowing · 07/03/2026 12:05

Are you sure that's the right way, getting up earlier? I get so confused. (That is the right way I just mentally checked - lighter evenings = earlier to bed = earlier to bed). Not gonna be an issue for anyone except dd7 who's bedtime has been creeping later/ she's been lying in bed awake.

DH does tend to clean more than me, but it annoys me when he criticises my messines because I'm trying to do a little bit at a time like flylady, and if I've not done a good enough job I might as well not do it at all. So, he's that perfectionist voice. But he does do a lot and a good blitz clean. I see the same with my aunt and uncle where she doesn't do much housework because he is more obsessed with it being perfect. I know it's often the other way round with men and women.

ExcellentDaydream · 07/03/2026 15:16

My DH used to do more of the routine housework and me more of the detailed / occasional stuff when the DCs were younger and I have always taken on the bulk of the admin, but I must admit I have picked up more of the daily housework again recently because he has slacked off. One of his jobs was to clear the kitchen at night and he did it most nights but always very last thing before bed and sometimes not at all which was annoying as I get up first and hate coming down to a mess, so I have just started doing it after dinner. He always used to do tidying and vacuuming on Saturday mornings, but about 18 months ago started caring for a terminally ill friend who he always visited on Saturdays and obviously that took priority. But the friend died in Oct and the vacuuming routine hasn’t come back. But he works full time and harder than me, I work part time and in a more relaxed environment, so it kind of evens out. It is easier now I have done more decluttering and am trying to clear all the hotspots regularly. Also just putting the DW on every single night unless there’s hardly anything in it and emptying it first thing really does help, we used to just put it on whenever it was full and then no one would empty it and everything piled up. It was supposed to be the DCs job before school but then they went to uni / work on different days so I just do it now, plus a LOL.

ExcellentDaydream · 07/03/2026 16:46

Tada!
✅1xLOL
✅DW rotated
✅litter trays de-pooped
✅several things decluttered from the understairs cupboard to the bin
✅all downstairs bins emptied (kitchen, other rooms, recycling, food waste)
✅kitchen bin cleaned

BloomingHazel · 07/03/2026 17:24

To dos:
🧚‍♀️ shower, dressed etc
🧚‍♀️ meal planning
🧚‍♀️ grocery shopping
🧚‍♀️ more laundry
🧚‍♀️ general tidy
🧚‍♀️ start on some truffles (I keep procrastinating..)

Searchingforsparkle · 08/03/2026 07:26

Good morning ☕️

Not much was completed house wise yesterday, gymnastics competition which we were in the car ready to go at 630am 😴, then work in the evening, once I’d finished work, I took the kids to McDonald’s which was dd2’s choice for doing well in her competition (she forgot her routine and froze on the beam, pulled herself together and carried on, didn’t let it bother her and completed the rest of her competition brilliantly!) once home , pjs on and didn’t move until bedtime!

I have downloaded finch , I’d never heard of it before! Looking forward to seeing what it’s all about .

Todays plan
🎯 meal plan for the week
🎯 shopping list
🎯 work paperwork
🎯 general tidy
🎯 wash and dry uniforms
🎯 declutter kitchen sides (shouldn’t take too long)
🎯 drop clothes off to a friend
🎯walk with friend
🎯 iron clothes for tomorrow

Im not going to put anything else on the list because I will find it too overwhelming and then I won’t do any of it 😂 I’ll add to it as the day goes on if time allows .

Happy Sunday everyone !

Alwaysgrowing · 08/03/2026 11:42

Good morning. I'm feeling very blugh. Hung up some washing. @Searchingforsparkle well done on DD dance.

I'm trying to prep for a promotion interview on Tuesday and I'm not convinced I really want to do the interview/move up. I'm going to do a c25k run now, hope I feel less sluggish. Went to the in-laws for fil birthday. I've not been for ages as normally DH takes kids. I'd forgotten how uncomfortable I feel there. They're borderline horders, stuff pulled everywhere and stored behind sofas, have to be careful not to push them back. fil is also OCD about kids touching stuff, even they toys they got he thought of putting a metal car up hig so it didn't get damaged, but mil said it's for the kids. They don't like going out much, we went out to the playground. I feel like I have to parent harder when I'm there. Also bil is disabled with schizophrenia and he was worse yesterday. He does sometimes play with kids. So today I'm going to recover, and we'll keep it as DH takes kids to in-laws. Or they visit us, which is nicer. Everyone else seemed to think it was a nice day.

Positivepositron · 08/03/2026 11:45

Oh new zone starts today and I didn't really manage much in last one.
So in master bedroom week I did sort a couple of drawers, pick up assorted clothes and junk off floor and dusted tops of wardrobes.
This last week I only really cleaned banisters though not porch banisters they are in living room.
Extra jobs not from fly lady that I've done are cleaned all door frames.
I mainly managed the weekly blessings though and I've edited the morning tasks to more relevant tasks and I've mainly managed them all week long. Need to edit afternoon and evening next.
So kitchen next...

WinterFrogs · 08/03/2026 20:51

Sorry I didn't manage much today. Normal service will resume tomorrow 💐

Morning

always your ILs sound v similar to my parents, we dont see them very often as it's a 4 hour drive but it is difficult 💐

I haven't added on Finch i'm afraid as I have RL friends on it and if I changed to Dilly it would cause some confusion! I have a v distinctive first name that doesn't lend itself to shorts.

Am on top of daily jobs and got some decluttering done. I have been trying to tackle our disaster of a garden (dh calls it a "wildlife area" but its really just completely abandoned) and not getting v far.

Searchingforsparkle · 09/03/2026 07:52

I enjoyed a relaxing day yesterday, met up with a friend for a walk then went for a coffee. Not much from the to do list was completed, however I did get things organised for today and I do feel more refreshed this morning for the slower paced day yesterday!
This morning tada :
🥳 5am get up , 1.5 hours of work paperwork completed
🥳 showered , hair washed & dried
🥳 a slight change of breakfast, instead of 2 slices of seeded bread toast , I’ve had 1 slice of seeded toast, yoghurt and grapes (I’m trying to vary my diet a little , I get stuck on the same foods, I really want to try and add in different things to get some vitamins & minerals without it being overwhelming, any small change suggestions are welcome 🙂)

I am running 10 mins early so I’m off to get a couple if the daily stuff ticked off !

CherryogDog · 09/03/2026 09:39

I had a rubbish day yesterday (DP drinking related).
He spent the whole day in bed, surfacing only to make himself food and drink.
I looked after (my) horses, (our) dogs, went shopping, tidied the kitchen, rotated DW, put three bags of clothes in the Sally Army bin, started a box of charity shop odds and ends.
Not a lot in the grand scheme of things but after very little sleep it wrecked me.
I'm still exhausted today, won't be flying in the house but need to catch up with horse jobs.
Hope everyone had a better weekend than me!

CherryogDog · 09/03/2026 09:42

@Searchingforsparkle you're off to a flying start!
