Coin down the toilet

My 3 yo ds put a coin down the toilet. It has been there a few days now. We can't retrieve it as it is quite far back & under. I've been putting bleach in every day to see if that would help but it just looks like a permanent poo stain. Has anyone got any remedies? Has it happened to anyone else?! Please say it has 🙈

OP posts:

Aw OP, no one is getting how it is stuck, you may need to get the camera out

Try shoving it with a knife, it may dislodge itself

BeanQuisine · 13/05/2025 14:15

Maybe you could hire a little diving suit for your toddler and send him down there with a crowbar.

MyKingdomForACat · 13/05/2025 14:17

Can you not prise it off with a coat hanger??

Jesus, can you really not figure how to get a coin out of a toilet?!?!
This is without a doubt to most ridiculously stupid post I have ever seen on here….bleach and a toilet brush.🤷‍♂️

This thread is why I’ll never delete MN.

Was going to say, try to pry it gently with a screwdriver. It may be stuck, but I can't believe it's stuck fast.

BreatheAndFocus · 13/05/2025 14:24

If it’s stuck to the toilet, then that might be because of the bleach causing a reaction and sticking it to the enamel. It shouldn’t be too firm a stick. I’d get an old teaspoon and use the handle to lever it off. If that doesn’t work, go for something sharper like the end of a flat screwdriver or a palette knife.

Diagram or it didn't happen.

Use a magnet?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 13/05/2025 14:27

Early recommendation for Classics.

beetr00 · 13/05/2025 14:27

@nottheplan

could a metal skewer do the trick to dislodge, if you have one?

nottheplan · 13/05/2025 12:36

I've tried fishing it out with the toilet brush but it seems to be stuck. The reason I put bleach in is because I thought it would take the brown stain away. But obviously the dye keeps coming off.

Lol. The coin isn't dyed OP. Did you finish school in the end, or were you short changed with your education?

momager1 · 13/05/2025 14:31

turn the valve to the toilet off. flush to empty cistern. THEN put the full fat coke in and leave for a bit, then get in there again with a knife or flat head screwdriver

dogcatkitten · 13/05/2025 14:32

Use the point of a knife to lever it off if it's stuck, can't understand why it would be but perhaps the bleach has caused the copper to corrode and the corrosion has stuck it to the pan.

Sunnyside4 · 13/05/2025 14:32

Can you see it OP? If so, try with gloves on or use something like a wooden spoon/spatula to try and give it a shove from the side.

NewBinBag · 13/05/2025 14:33

I wonder if you have a build up of limescale that the coin has welded itself into? Hard water area?

If so, pump the toilet brush like a plunger to splash as much of the u-bend water back over the bend as poss, then use a sponge to remove the remaining water.
Empty in a bottle of neat white vinegar. Use toilet roll soaked in vinegar to lay over any vertical sides/hard to soak bits.

The coin will hopefully come away with any limescale. I use a scrubby sponge & pink stuff to get rid of stubborn build up - it's both revolting & so satisfying.

As I keep saying ...it's STUCK!!!

Stuck to WHAT???

JifNtGif · 13/05/2025 14:35

You'll have to syphon the water out of the toilet bowl with a pipe at this advanced stage of stuck. Suck on the pipe to get the flow going initially. Once this is done add your full fat coke as others have suggested. This does risk creating a fat berg in your u bend but you'll have to risk it. The full fat coke will coalescence to form tiny hands to pick up the coin and hand it to you. Syphon the coke out with the same method as above and replace with still or sparkling water as is your preference. No papadums or bread down the toilet for a few days to be safe.

GraceUnderPresure · 13/05/2025 13:09

Have you still not put your hand down there & got it out? 🙄

Just poor some Coca Cola down that will remove the stain. Still can’t understand why you didn’t take it out at the time!

Toomanydogwalks · 13/05/2025 14:39

@spiderlight beat me to it.
Not had this much excitement about a toilet since the bobble plate.
OP you need lube and a fish slice. lol.

Even if you empty cistern as suggested there will still be water in bowl

OP can best remove this with a sponge, towel or dog. Whatever available.
