Coin down the toilet

nottheplan · 13/05/2025 11:57

My 3 yo ds put a coin down the toilet. It has been there a few days now. We can't retrieve it as it is quite far back & under. I've been putting bleach in every day to see if that would help but it just looks like a permanent poo stain. Has anyone got any remedies? Has it happened to anyone else?! Please say it has 🙈

some ideas

modern coins are magnetic. Tie a strong magnet to a string. Lower it into the loo. Pull out.

use the modern evolutionary tool, the opposable thumb, attached to your hand, to pick it up.

3
phone a plumber. He will have a sophisticated tool, as described in 2 above. If that doesn’t work he can remove the toilet and replace with a new one!

Please don’t shout at me. There’s no MN rule about reading the whole thread and nothing wrong about making a quick response to the original question. This is just a lighthearted chat.

There absolutely should be a rule about not reading the OP threads

we don’t want to be reading and wasting our time on rubbish about something that’s already been resolved

One idea:

At least read the OP's posts before you post.

So it’s really , really stuck. So you need to try and apply some gentle mechanical force to unstick it. Can you get a length of wooden dowel, or similar to press against the edge of the coin to release it? You can press quite hard the toilet is strong. If that doesn’t work try gently tapping the end of the dowel with a hammer. This won’t scratch or damage the bowl. You can only know by experience how much force to use. If repeated gentle tapping on the edge won’t work, you might have to live with it, or get a plumber. I can’t imagine the chemistry that’s going on to fix a coin that way in such a short time.. Good luck

You are wasting a lot of energy on this. Not everyone reads the whole thread before commenting. If you seriously want to get people banned then you need to raise it with MNHQ, not interrupt threads by ticking people off for breaking your personal rule.

I CAN INTERRUPT As MUCH AS I LIKE, just as you can comment without reading. 😜

You can of course, but it isn’t likely to persuade other posters to read the whole of every thread!
Shall we leave it here? We’re not likely to agree! ✌️🙂

I laughed so hard at this thread my DH keeps saying what is so funny, and I laughed so much I couldnt answer him as couldn't stop laughing to speak. I had to hand him my phone to read for myself. Now he is laughing and teens have both come to see what is so funny. Thank you OP. Laughing is therapeutic.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/05/2025 07:54

Newer 2p coins have a steel core and are magnetic.
So a magnet on the end of a piece of string should retrieve it, alternatively a hand on the end of an arm will work too.

As someone who used both hands to very quickly scoop a huge turd out of the bath when my five year old “relaxed” too much, I say get your hand down there and get it out.
You can even wash your hands after!

HelloYesxxxx · 15/05/2025 09:11

Lol. Get a big black plastic bag and put your arm in it and grab it that way? If you can see it then you can reach it.

And if you try, you can read the OP's posts before you write anything........

There are ingenious gadgets for getting at objects like that. I have a very long wire with a spring loaded tiny grip at the end of it.

It goes with the very thin brush for getting the gunge at the base of kitchen mixer taps and another round brush with a handle at each end for cleaning the bottom of the washbasin taps.

Smurfette63 · 17/05/2025 21:27

Yes my little girl threw a 2p piece in. My husband shut the water off, flush the toilet twice, hey presto, no water in the bowl, so gloves on and it was removed. Turn water back on the cistern fills and you can flush the toilet again.

tygertygers · 13/05/2025 12:06

Put more coins in, will push the original coin down. Like the coin shove games in arcades.

🤣🤣😂😂😂🤪🤪🤪

ThisRedLion · 18/05/2025 08:04

Cillit bang bleach is super powerful it's amazing will work straight away and the limescale remover is even better give them a try

MelanieHardy · 18/05/2025 09:43

brettsalanger · 13/05/2025 12:49

Why haven’t you just stuck your hand in to get?

did you think the bleach would dissolve it or something ?

No, she put bleach down to remove the stain.

MelanieHardy · 18/05/2025 09:45

I think you’re going to have to be a bit creative 🤔. Find something to dislodge it, then you could try a powerful toilet cleaning tablet (overnight) to remove the stain. Ignore the nasty comments on here! Good grief!!! They’re like a pack of nasty trolls!! 🤣🤣

minipie · 18/05/2025 09:47

SHE GOT THE COIN OUT ALREADY

A FEW PAGES AGO
