People who wash their bedding every week . . .

Which exact items are you washing every week?

I took a day of annual leave yesterday to do some tidying and deep cleaning whilst DS was in nursery and did a full change of our bedding which involved 2 laundry loads with pre-soaking both in some Vanish beforehand:

1 x coloured duvet cover
4 x coloured pillow cases

1 x white sheet
1 x white mattress protector
4 x white under pillow cases

It took the best part of a day to get through everything and that was with quite warm weather so everything could dry on the line.

Do people who wash their bedding every week do all of this or are you just doing some items weekly and the rest less frequently?

I wash sheets and pillowcases once a week, duvet covers every fortnight.

cuckyplunt · 22/03/2024 13:39

I’d chuck that in altogether with a colour catcher sheet in a eco wash.
But we wash ourselves everyday so I only wash bed linen once a fortnight.

ShowerEasy · 22/03/2024 13:39

Sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers once a week. Pillow protectors and mattress protectors less often. I don’t usually soak anything though.

It does take a while but it’s only machine time- it’s not like I’m there with a washboard and mangle.

Floralnomad · 22/03/2024 13:40

I don’t do the mattress protector weekly but my weekly laundry for beds is :
2 king duvet covers / 1 double duvet cover
2 king fitted sheets / 1 double
8 pillowcases and 1 bolster cover .
Every other week I also wash the blanket off my bed ( goes on top of the duvet ) .

MinPinSins · 22/03/2024 13:40

Apart from mattress protectors, I do all this weekly. Mattress protectors less frequently.

I don't separate it out though - white sheets get washed with anything coloured, though I do put a colour catcher in. They probably aren't a bright white anymore, but I can live with that.

drawnfrommemory · 22/03/2024 13:40

I wash pillow cases for top pillows, duvet covers and fitted sheets once a week. Mattress protectors, pillow cases for bottom pillows and under pillowcases get done 3 - 4 times a year - usually over spring/ summer when I can get them outside.

DuckyDaffodil · 22/03/2024 13:42

I take everything off once a week, and replace with fresh bedding and mattress/pillow protectors. I wash the duvet covers, pillow cases and sheets every Sunday, and wash the pillow and mattress protectors on Monday.

TheHardScab · 22/03/2024 13:42

This is why I do not do mine very often, I have health problems and its just too much plus nowhere to dry them really

AlltheFs · 22/03/2024 13:42

Well for a start having white anything is a mistake.

Ours are all coloured. All goes in on one wash, no presoaking or anything like that. Apart from the superking sets, they need splitting in 2 loads. Sheet and pillowcases separate from the duvet cover.

If it’s dry goes on the line, raining goes in dryer. Wash takes about an hour.

I wash all of it, so sheet, cover and pillowcases. But not the protectors.

I rotate the days though. So I’d never do 3 beds in same day.

Sugarcube84 · 22/03/2024 13:43

All bunged in together kids have sheets and pillow cases that match duvet covers ours are all white and all tumble dried as I’m out at work and don’t have time to line dry

I wash sheets and pillowcases once a week, duvet covers every fortnight.

This. Just shove them in altogether at 60 with a bio wash. No more.

NewYearResolutions · 22/03/2024 13:44

I wash pillow cases, duvet covers and sheets once a week. It takes maybe 30min to strip 4 beds and remake them.

InTheRainOnATrain · 22/03/2024 13:45

Pillowcases, duvet cover and fitted sheets are washed weekly. Mattress and pillow protectors are once every few months unless there’s been a specific incident like the toddler has wet the bed or DH has dropped a mug of tea… Wouldn’t ever pre-soak anything though. If one of the kids has vommed scoop of vanish in the machine and set it to pre-wash. Everything goes in the dryer, we don’t have a washing line also just quicker and easier!

buswankerz · 22/03/2024 13:45

I strip and wash all bedding every 3 days. That includes duvet cover, pillow cases and fitted sheet.

I buy mine in white so I can throw them in the bath with some bleach for 20 minutes at the end of the week.

BertieBotts · 22/03/2024 13:47

I don't change every single bed weekly. But when I do change a bed, I just chuck the old duvet cover, pillow case and sheet in the normal laundry bin and they go in with whichever is the next appropriate-coloured wash load.

Some do seem to need washing at 60 or they come out smelling musty. So I just stick them in with towels or cleaning cloths or anything that needs an extra-deep clean as and when I do one of those.

Ladyprehensile · 22/03/2024 13:47

Sheet & pillow slips every week end.
Duvet covers every ten days or so, mid week.

Pillow protection covers frequently because apparently our pillows harbour a huge amount of fungi and bacteria from sweat and dribble. 🤢

Mattress cover once a month.

I love an immaculate bed and I have loads of bedding so not weather dependent when to wash & line dry.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 22/03/2024 13:48

Sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers weekly (3, sometimes 4 king-size sets) matters and pillow protectors and bedspreads less often. I don't pre soak, there's no need, even though they are all white there aren't any marks on them. I dry them on airers or the line outside if it's good enough weather. It doesn't take that long, it's only the loading and unloading which takes time really. I'd rather have clean sheets and take the bit of time to do it personally.

Revelatio · 22/03/2024 13:48

I can get 2 king pillowcases, 2 regular pillowcases, 1 fitted superking sheet and a superking duvet cover all in the washing machine. Gets stripped Monday morning and straight in the washing machine, then hung upstairs with the dehumidifier (if a rainy or cold day). It’s dry by the evening and out away. I don’t find it a chore at all. We shower every day, but I wouldn’t go longer than a week without changing.

noodlesfortea · 22/03/2024 13:49

We aim to do ours weekly but doesn't always happen.

I strip the bed first thing in the morning and put the machine on a wash & dry cycle which takes about 6 hours, so it's done by early afternoon.

In the summer it goes on a wash only cycle first thing and is ready to hang out by 9/10am.

We only have the one bed to do at the moment, but if you had to do a whole household I'd just do a different room each day.

BackAcheWoes · 22/03/2024 13:50

I washed 4 double duvet covers, 4 double sheets,16 pillow cases in a couple of washes the other day. Everything was thrown in together on a 60 wash. Didn't do the mattress or pillow protectors this week though.

getsomehelp · 22/03/2024 13:50

I have a friend who is single, she sleeps in a double bed.
The duvet gets flipped over after a week, then rotated, & flipped. So the duvet does 4 weeks.
The sheet, she sleeps one week on one side, then 2nd week on orher side of the bed.
Pillow cases go in wash once a week.

She wears a long nightie, which is worn 3 nights.

Not sure is this genius or minging

BackAcheWoes · 22/03/2024 13:51

I'd also normally do two one day and two on another, but they all needed doing at the same time this week!

Seizethedog · 22/03/2024 13:51

I never pre soak anything! i wash sheets and duvet covers, pillowcases every week. Matrress protectors every couple of months or so along with pillow protectors. hang them outside to dry March to September.

MississippiAF · 22/03/2024 13:51

No need to pre-soak, can add vanish in the wash if needed but they’re done weekly so not usually. 60 degree wash and spare set on. Then it’s a 15 min job max

Sera1989 · 22/03/2024 13:59

I don't think they should be dirty enough to presoak unless they haven't been done for a while? All day seems like a long time for two loads of washing which just need shoving in and then hanging up

I change my pillowcase about 3 times a week so end up with about 7 once a week
Bottom and top sheets washed every 7-10 days
Duvet cover every second sheet wash as I sleep in between sheets
Mattress protector every few months 😳
