Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There is an app that you can customise to suit your schedule and home that I highly recommend.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notification.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

MainCharacter unfortunately we are at the stage where it affects the main living spaces and it really affects the ability to function on a day to day level. And we are stuck here until Feb due to scheduling of work. So a lot of activities are based on reorganising stuff so basic life can happen. Honestly it is a struggle bus and i will be very very grateful when the building work is completed and it has been possible to reconstruct structure and order into the house.

Apparently we will be hiring a skip because the council charges for disposal of building work materials and for the comparison of cost vs convenience it is just going to be beneficial to do so. However, as there is a lot of work involved apparently we will be completing that first so it is a dump and go exercise wrt the skip.

I’ve felt exhausted the last few days so apart from doing the basics, I’ve been resting a lot but I’m hoping to vacuum again this weekend. Sorry I haven’t been as active either

Bornlazy · 09/11/2023 22:05

The kitchen is my worst area. It's overflowing with too much of practically everything. Today I cleaned two cupboards and threw out a black bag of old Tupperware , plastic plates, water bottles and other random crap. I'm hoping that it'll be easier to put clean dishes away as right now they end up dumped on the worktop waiting for me to find a home for them. Oh and I did the pot drawer too and cleared space to actually put the pots we use in it rather than them living on the cooker. I cleaned the fridge too. Need to defrost the freezer next, but will need to be the weekend as working tomorrow.

Elf I hope the house move goes smoothly for you.

Cat Take it easy and I hope you feel less exhausted soon.

HungryHazelEyes · 10/11/2023 06:53

That's quite an achievement in the zone! born

Friday is clean your car and purse (handbag) out day.
Friday's mission is to sweep and mop the kitchen floor really well, there's no right way to do it, as long as it gets done!

Morning. Still feeling really tired/achy and not managing much of anything really, so hoping a power of three will get me a bit more motivated. 🙄😬

po3.1
❗️Meds, breakfast, caffeine (note caffeine has replaced “water” because priorities 🤣)
❗️Laundry
❗️Shower/hair wash

Going to put my phone on charge and get on with it…

TheMainCharacter · 10/11/2023 14:17

@HouseorHome i think it’s quartz and resin. Not 100% sure to be honest. Might be granite. Barkeepers friend is a good shout, although I haven’t seen any anywhere for ages.

@HillsBesideTheSea poor you. We had a winter where all the floors were up, chasing all down the walls, no heating or hot water other than an electric —trickle— shower. It was awful and the dust was crazy. It will be worth it when it’s done but it’s not fun living through it, especially when things stop progressing for a bit.

@Bornlazy the kitchen is definitely where my hoarding tendencies become evident. Luckily we have the space and have a sideboard for crockery as well as a glassware cabinet but if we had to downsize I’d be in trouble! Well done on the clear out!

Hope all the poorly people feel better soon.

Today
*morning routine
*supermarket for a few bits
*dust& hoover lounge inc under sofa cushions
*quick hoover through rest of downstairs
*pick up parcel, tried to pick up another but the shop was closed

  • mop hard floors downstairs *2nd LOL

Thats about it today, productivity is dying off as the weekend approaches 😳 And I just ate too much lunch so now feel really sluggish

HungryHazelEyes · 11/11/2023 04:00

Sing I hope you feel better soon 💐
character I hope your were able to get some relaxing in, getting rest is just as important and getting stuff done.

Ta Das:
🦊 spin workout on my bike
🦊 showered & dressed
🦊 2 LOLs (1 was rewashed from yesterday 🙄 (looking at you, DS, for not moving it to the dryer)
🦊 took a bunch of things to the charity shop. Previously I would have tried to sell a lot of it in a yard sale (which would have involved storing it for months on end), now it's all out of the house and my Jeep!
🦊 took my Jeep through the carwash, no time to vacuum it though
🦊 checked the schedule at my 2nd job, not scheduled, which is actually really good right now with the mess of everything going on at the house (or not going on right now 🤬)
🦊 painted my nails
🦊 watched 3 movies while painting/ letting my nails dry (I miss my gel! 😭)

We have hit a standstill at the house. Restoration company refusing to do any more work without more funds. Bank holding onto funds (although just released more, so a cheque will be on its way soon). The restoration company just gave us an invoice that we would need to pay - we have soooo many questions about things being billed to us that either didn't happen or aren't going to happen 🤬 and of course, now it's the weekend 🙄

So Saturday is family fun day, no missions, no zone cleaning work either. Morning and evening routines continue though, which are built through the baby steps.

At our house, DH & DS will be working on cutting and splitting wood from the tree we just got cut down. I will need to go grocery shopping and work on getting dinner ready (ILs will be coming over, it's our turn).
I do need to scrub the bathrooms (there's paint splatter everywhere 🙄).
I also plan on making key lime pies. One regular, one keto. DH grabbed 8 limes for tacos, we used 2! I may have to make more than 2 pies and send them home with ILs! I'll probably also stick another movie or 2 on. Yes, I've started on the romantic Christmas movies on Netflix, I have no shame!

@HungryHazelEyes I've just got a new mop (big excitement) I had a dry wipe mop but it just can't handle the mud the cat brings in on her paws.

Does anyone have a really good doormat that catches all the mud? The bedding has cat prints on so he's so muddy he's walked all through the house and up the stairs carpet, through the bedrooms and still muddied the bedding. What a dick head!

Scourgify · 11/11/2023 08:12

I stuck with only the basics this week, due to unexpected complications with LOs’ school, which took up a huge amount of mental energy. We had clean clothes and good food and I opened all the mail and didn’t do a massive mad online shopping as consolation, so I’m happy with that.

I’m tackling the kitchen this weekend, catching up with laundry, and cooking a roast that should save me some time during the coming week.

I’m desperate to make some changes to the utility area, but the H digs his heels in every time I mention it and won’t discuss the possibility of doing a tiny part of it every so often and me dealing with all the fetching and carrying and general mess. Just had to get that off my chest.

Podcasts lined up, earbuds in, and off I go.

SingToTheSky · 11/11/2023 08:53

Thursday
🍅ordered Tesco for the evening
🍅work meetings
🍅went to tap class with DS and chatted with friend
🍅took in Tesco delivery and put it away
🍅put Cagletini to bed

Friday
💡LOL
💡jobcentre appt
💡LOL in dryer
💡work

All in all a productive working week in that I got lots of life stuff sorted, but the knock on effect of said life stuff is that I am short on work hours 🙄🙈 however today I am ignoring that (we have flexibility anyway so if I really need to I’ll just add them to next week) because my uni essay is due in ten days and I need to get on with it. 😬

po3.1
❗️Breakfast, meds
❗️LOL
❗️Uni work for a bit

cosypompoms · 11/11/2023 13:41

@Scourgify what podcasts do you listen to?

✅ made minestrone soup and garlic bread for lunch
✅ packed off the kids and H to MIL
✅ having a nice long bath
✅ making pizza for tea

HouseorHome · 11/11/2023 14:01

What do you want to do to your utility @Scourgify ?

DH and DS are now out watching football all afternoon and won't be back until the evening so I'm home alone. I need to do something productive...Going to do 15 mins kitchen cabinet front cleaning first.

HungryHazelEyes · 11/11/2023 15:47

I'm sorry to hear your H is being less than helpful Scourgify just the basics is also good, no need to burn yourself out.
Sing flexibility at work is good!
home it really was a good day, although not productive at all!
pompoms a new mop is exciting! I can't help with the mat though, I'm afraid. With my dogs I clean their paws with an old towel whenever they come back inside, if it's wet. They don't have free access in and out.
home I love having the house to myself!

To Dos:
☕️ drink my coffee!
☕️ have a soak in the bath, my neck is really stiff and I think Epsom salts is what I need
☕️ meal plan for the week
☕️ grocery shopping
☕️ figure something out for lunch
☕️ meal prep (for dinner tonight)
☕️ scrub bathrooms to remove the paint (I didn't do that yesterday 🤦‍♀️ although DS did clean them as part of his chores)
☕️ vacuum

We'll see what I get done today.. it's not quite 9am and I still need to make my 2nd cup of coffee before anything else gets done!
🍒👋

Here is the present layout, and my plans for the future layout.

The main idea is to cut down draughts and dirt coming into the house, and the being trailed through between kitchen and living-room.

The dotted lines are the proposed partition, and the new position for sink, sliding door, and door into living-room.

Scourgify What would you use the space in the middle for? Would you turn it into a pantry? If so, would you want to go through your pantry to get to your toilet? Would you use it for storage instead?
Sorry I have so many questions!

Sorry the rest of the week was crazy - no flying at all but general daily routines has save the home and it shouldn't take long to get it back to what it was, maybe 30 mins then cleaning and prepping for the week can start.
Tada
👍 post office for passport check & send
👍 dd2 ready and dropped off at gymnastics
🎄Christmas shopping 🙈
🎄 taken dd2 to smyths so she can see what she would like on her Santa list this year

To do
Quick blitz of the downstairs, shouldn't take too long

Yes a fort @DitzyDaffodils I had taken the sofa cushions off so I could hoover underneath - she used all of them, 2 dining chairs and a double bed sheet 🤪 I hoovered the sofa and then sat on the floor with her whilst she completed her homework. Took ages to pack it away 😂 she had a great time so worth it .

Thanks @HungryHazelEyes I slept better that night but took a day or 2 to catch up ! Sorry about the bathroom situation - maybe it's just the change and once everything is back in there the colour will grow on you ? Have you any plans for your 3 day weekend? Glad you enjoyed ds's concert - it's lovely seeing kids doing the things they love isn't it !

Oh no @cosypompoms !! Glad you got the walls sorted eventually ! I bet the kids had a great time ! Well done for recovering the house after half term !

Hope ds had a great birthday @MercuryRising

@Bornlazy it's amazing that others don't see what needs cleaning isn't it ! Sounds like your zone work is going well!

Welcome @TheMainCharacter !

Amazing zone work @HouseorHome ! Do you take or teach the piano lessons ?

Good luck with the move @DomesticElf !!

@JewelleryCat I hope you're feeling better soon 💐

@SingToTheSky I hope you're feeling better soon💐

HouseorHome · 11/11/2023 19:30

I take them [piano lessons] @Searchingforsunnydays ! Tried as a kid but didn’t practise and packed it in after getting to grade 2/3 ish. Picked it up again about 18 months ago - very lucky to have an amazing teacher (who is also a concert pianist). Hard but love it!

Scourgify · 11/11/2023 20:11

@HungryHazelEyes The middle space would be about 8' by 4', and would have some shelves and hooks. I'm lucky to have a lot of kitchen space and don't need a separate pantry.

Just realised that I've forgotten to indicate the door in the middle of the pArtition, which would also have to have windows or glass bricks. That would limit the wall available for shelving.

Searchingforsunnydays · 12/11/2023 08:49

Morning everyone ☕️

Last night tada

👍 general tidy
👍 15 mins decluttering kitchen side
👍 15 mins folding dry clothes and sorting out uniform ironing

Today I'm taking dd2 to watch the parade and go to church, uniform ironing and cooking roast dinner . Also a look through the weeks diary .if I'm feeling really organised I could get dd2 to start writing a few Xmas cards.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/11/2023 10:48

That how are you doing?

I am stuck on bed rest. apparently my lungs have forgotten how to lung. It's a minor inconvience.

Bornlazy · 12/11/2023 11:29

Morning. Didn't do a lot of flying yesterday just the minimum required to keep us alive. Off to a better start today 🤞🏼

So far
🧊 Defrosted and cleaned out freezer.
🧊 Lol x2
🧊 Washed dishes left from last night 😳
🧊 Cats fed
🧊 Dinner in the slow cooker

To do
🤞🏼 More cupboards in kitchen
🤞🏼 More lol
🤞🏼 Trip to tip

The freezer is my most hated job as I have raynauds so touching the ice hurts my fingers. I now have room to see what's in there and for the Christmas food 🎉

Well done Sunny a fort sounds like lots of fun and worth the extra time

Scourgify that's a good space although knowing me I'd fill it with crap stuff in no time at all

pompoms I have 3 cats and their footprints are mostly contained to the wooden floors downstairs, or maybe I haven't noticed them elsewhere. Of course now that I've said that I'll see them everywhere 🤣
