Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There is an app that you can customise to suit your schedule and home that I highly recommend.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notification.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Happy anniversary @HungryHazelEyes !! 21 years ! Enjoy your meal out this evening and I hope work and parents evening goes well.

How did the choir go @SingToTheSky did you enjoy it ?

Tada
🎆reclaimed the dining table
🎆tidied the bookcase
🎆 sorted through the school box and made a note of what needs refilling for the next term (I have a small display box that sits on the bookcase with all sorts of school stationery bits , notepads, pocket tissues , them sniff vapour sticks for blocked noses , lip balms , throat sweets etc so that it stops the 'mum, I need ..... ' just before they walk out of the door, they can just go and grab whatever they need and it gets refilled each half term)

I'm still in my pjs so going to go and get ready and do the morning routines . I'm on a course this afternoon but aiming to get at least 15 mins on the stairs and landing before starting my coursework . No errands as such to complete today, I'll be staying home most of the day .

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/11/2023 09:44

So you how we are all pretty much on a 2 week rotational system for the bins? Yeah the bin that goes out this week is full, the bin that goes out next week is full. I have a metric ton to go into both. <sigh>

Not slept enough, too much dust in the lungs. Too much to do. I don't want to anymore. I want a tidy organised house. I want a kitchen that people don't trash. People who live in the house to be properly house trained in the way of basic chores. Instead I have the whole heap of various neurodivergency that results in chaos and a house that is a disaster of a building site.

ta da
3 cups of coffee to attempt to get going
try to figure out where to even start
try to figure out the solution to the bins
find clothes
figure out what is going where and when and how.

EversoDisorganised · 02/11/2023 09:58

We have been on fortnighly bin rotation for as long as we have lived here (20 years +). Don't like it as we have no food waste collection so the main bin gets smelly in summer (we compost what we can but meat/fish etc yuck). Total PITA if you miss one as well.

HouseorHome · 02/11/2023 10:26

Day off for me (but I have to work 3-4 hours later, so not really!) and time to catch up. Barely been in the last few days and when I have I've been exhausted so the perpetuals will be taking up a fair amount of time today.

I think I agree with DH now - the word perpetual, now I use it so much, is starting to irritate me too. I'll change it to basics (laundry, tidying, dishes, spot clean). First of all I need to have a shower and get dressed - it is the kind of day where that feels like a big deal, so I'll make myself do that now.

SingToTheSky · 02/11/2023 11:50

Sunny yes I did thank you, it was lovely. A colleague goes sometimes and I’ve been meaning to try for ages! But my other friend and I were finally both free at the same time this week. It’s very informal and it was great timing as they started Christmas music this week and that is my favourite and my best 😁

A bit stressed about work ATM but I have the house to myself so I’m going to have lunch and put the tv on for a bit before getting on with stuff.

Bornlazy · 02/11/2023 13:12

Sing we all need someone who's actually worse than them to make them feel a little better. Think I could be that person for you 😜

Happy anniversary Hazel enjoy your meal.

So today I have cleaned the front door and the porch doors, removing the remnants of sellotape that have held birthday banners over the years. I'm sure dh thinks I've lost the plot and has been pointing out all the bits I've missed 🙄 My problem is I don't really see things that need "done" I could and did walk past that sellotape daily and yet I didn't do anything about it. Think flylady is perfect for someone like me.

Going to tackle the dining room next ...

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/11/2023 13:37

ta da
run errands in another town
book car in for assessment for repair work - fault is not immediately obvious
strip notice board focus list
put some empty units into car for temp storage for tomo
consider what is for tea

I need a nap. So tired can barely keep my eyes open. This weather is not helping. It just makes you wanna curl up with a hot chocolate and a fluffy blankie

HouseorHome · 02/11/2023 14:05

Great job on the zone work Born!* *

Hope a nap helps Hills - you've had a productive morning! This weather is definitely great for curling up with a hot chocolate, a good film and a blanket!

My ta da list

💥2 x LOL (and need to do at least another 4)
💥Dishes (actually DH did them!)
💥Took DS out for driving practice & went to the supermarket whilst out
💥Some prep for work later (very irritated I have to do a long meeting on my day off) - need to do more though
💥Got the printer working again
💥Few other admin type jobs

Not a lot really considering it is 2 pm. Oh well.

Not going to do a PO3 - but hope to do another ta da before the meeting starts!

Searchingforsunnydays · 02/11/2023 18:00

Ta da
🎆 morning routines
🎆 picked ds up from friends
🎆 cooked lunch (fish and chips)
🎆 general tidy downstairs
🎆 course
🎆 made ds tea (warmed up leftover spag Bol)

I still need to hang some washing up and have a 15 min blast on the landing but sat watching Spider-Man with ds whilst both dd's are out so the chores can wait a little longer 👍

How's ds driving going @HouseorHome ? My dd1 is currently having lesson and passed her theory test on Tuesday which she is ecstatic about !

Hope you've managed some rest @HillsBesideTheSea .

I am the same @Bornlazy ! I do a mixture of flylady and TOMM which helps me focus on areas that I usually miss or gives me a starting point when there is so much to do that I get overwhelmed. Happy that you're finding the system useful .

@SingToTheSky glad you enjoyed it ! It's good to have something that you enjoy and is just for you ! Sorry about the work stress 💐

The fortnightly bin collection can be tricky especially in the summer like you say @EversoDisorganised . @HillsBesideTheSea I completely understand how frustrating that must be . Could some non perishables be stored in a shed until the bins have been emptied ?

DitzyDaffodils · 02/11/2023 21:01

Thanks for past month's thread ED and thanks Hazel for this month's

Welcome to the new posters

Hope everyone had a lovely Halloween

My bin collection has gone to 3 weekly 😱🤬😤😭 As I am still plugging away at decluttering this is not good. Also, maggots 😣🤢🤮

Today I worked on something 📝 I've been putting off for ages, then it was a trip to the park to feed the ducks 🦆

Need to get on with finishing the morning routine tasks then get started on the evening ones

HouseorHome · 02/11/2023 21:40

Well now, thank you @Searchingforsunnydays . He didn’t want to learn for ages (he is 19) so it is a relief he changed his mind. He has quite a lot of lessons now, passed his theory and was definitely much better today - I still find it nerve wracking though! We disagree on a few things - like signalling when waiting to pass parked cars…he (and his driving instructor apparently) thinks it is passive aggressive and I would fail my test for doing it 😆.

Managed to do another 3 LOL, some DIY, cook dinner and tidy up kitchen and do the 3 hr work meeting.

SingToTheSky · 02/11/2023 22:41

Thursday
☔️reorganised donations ready for collection - 7 laundry bags full plus a couple of bigger items left the house!!!
☔️lots of work
☔️emailed uni tutor
☔️attended webinar

Doesn’t look like much written down but I was really productive at work and finished the week’s hours so I get some totally child free time tomorrow 🥳 I definitely need to use some of that for uni and housework but hopefully I’ll have long enough to relax plenty too. And then I won’t need to spend Saturday recovering from the week 🤣

Friday is clean out car & purse day. It is also date night.
Friday's mission is to clear the piles of clutter on the dining room table. Set your timer for 15 minutes and see what you can get done.

🍒👋 to everyone, hopefully I can catch up tomorrow

Good morning everyone,

Ta da
🎆 morning coffee
🎆 15 mins decluttering dining room, I've probably got another 1or 2 15 minute slots to do in there before i can't go any further without cleaning the caravan and prepping it for winter (some of the caravan bits are being stored in the dining room) Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll be caught up in that room 👏👏

I'm out this morning so I'm finishing off my coffee and then I'll be getting ready for the day and will try to get most of the morning routine done before going out 🤞

Thankyou for the link Hazel hope you enjoyed a wonderful day 💐

Well done on a productive day yesterday @SingToTheSky - lots of stuff for collection definitely a big achievement! The rest of your day sounded positive!

@HouseorHome that's very strange - I always thought indicating to overtake a parked car was to let others know there's an obstruction ahead that you're overtaking so they're aware. If anything I would class it as considerate driving not aggressive - how times change !! Glad he's getting on well , I had absolutely no interest in driving until I was 23 . My partner and I were talking about having children and they said they would feel more comfortable if I could drive before having children so off I went for lessons ❤️ best thing I ever did and I can't thank him enough for encouraging me to do it .

Searchingforsunnydays · 03/11/2023 08:30

@DitzyDaffodils I can't imagine 3 weekly bin collections 😱 we don't waste much but the food waste is difficult to manage the longer it's left ! How are you coping with it ?

Dahliasrule · 03/11/2023 08:34

May I follow, though I may not post?
Am feeling very overwhelmed at moment, as have disorganised AC and children living with us and both DH and I are not very well at the moment.
just logged on to ask what BRC is. Thanks.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/11/2023 08:46

So far i have drunk way too much coffee, but about to take a 10min break and grab some breakfast

EversoDisorganised · 03/11/2023 11:20

@Dahliasrule welcome! Dip in and out if you feel up to it. BRC stands for Box of Random Crap.

EversoDisorganised · 03/11/2023 11:21

I dealt with an Ikea Bag full of random crap last night so feeling pleased about that. Just need to take some of it to the charity shop now, a lot was paper/card/plastic for recycling but also some old toys and bits.

Dahliasrule · 03/11/2023 11:40

Thanks,EversoDisorganised. In that case , I have loads of BRCs!

EversoDisorganised · 03/11/2023 11:55

I think most of us do @Dahliasrule ! Boxes, bags, baskets, drawers. It is very satisfying when you empty one.

DitzyDaffodils · 03/11/2023 12:03

Daliah don't we all! 😁

I'm always amazed how many is willing to put cola into their bodies Hills, considering what it does to toilets

I know Sunny, I'm really annoyed. It's going to be so difficult to put all those little extras that aren't suitable to donate/sell. Before there was always a little space in the bin so I could gradually get rid of stuff. Now I'm going to have to burn it pay the council to come take things away. I'm already trying to go zero waste as much as possible but I'll have to up my game and see if I can get any bin space back. I'm so fed up with recycling too. Mainly because I don't believe they do actually recycle it, making it a waste of my time. There's 4 recycling bins now. It's a PITA. It's the reason I started going zero waste rather than environmental reasons, I was sick of dealing with all the packaging. I preferred things the way they used to be - one decent sized bin, everything in it and weekly collection. Life is too short

Po3

💥Sort laundry
💥Make bed
💥Wash hair

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/11/2023 16:34

Well the local tip does not take half the stuff so a trip to the main tip an hour away (and if the Local council gets their way and closes the local one it will be our nearest)
I took a nap. I feel like crap there is a crap ton to do and i am losing daylight too fast, and there is a whole heap of prep to do so that i can get the incinerator can get set up.
I should get moving and de-coke the loo and then put toilet cleaner in to soak. But first i have a whole heap of clean up to do.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/11/2023 16:36

We are losing our green bin unless we decide to pay extra to keep it. And i have no idea what they are going to do about the food waste which they have had us put into the green bin currently but i believe can't go in going forwards. A compost pile is just not possible here, there are too many rats and don't want to attract them closer to the house.

Bornlazy · 03/11/2023 18:26

Welcome Dahlia I'm new to the thread but unfortunately not new to BRC. I'm fascinated by people who have a junk drawer, I have entire cupboards full of junk as well as a junk drawer in every room 😱🙈

So I've had a tidy of the dining room and moved the furniture about a bit. Dh uses this as an office so it's never as tidy as I'd like but it is better.

Today has been spent trying to clean out a few drawers in my room. One full black bag of rubbish thrown out and drawers are still full.

Hills bins are the bane off my life. Our general waste bin is every three weeks and it's awful. We frequently have to go to the tip.
