Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

I like the app as it has a tick list and I love a list.

Links are below 👇 and I'll tend to post the links the night before ready for the next day.

Loving movement just means exercise. She's trying to make it sound like something you might want to do

Searchingforsunnydays · 05/09/2023 20:28

@BloomingHazel hope ds has had a good day . Dd1 has had her first driving lesson !! I obviously did the embarrassing mum thing and ran out after her so I could get a picture of her behind the wheel ! 😂 I already get clothes out and try to be as organised as possible but it's exhausting being at a constant full speed . It'll get easier I know and I'm not wishing the time away , I just like a good moan about it lol !

@EquallyDetermined well done for keeping up with the car - mine looks like it's being lived in not driven !

@Upsadiddles great lists , you've achieved so much !! The paddling pool sounds like a dream right now!!

Tada
✅ morning routine
✅ dropped dd2 at friends house before school as I had a meeting a school
✅ work
✅ tea prepped

✅ ds ready for football
✅ dd2 ready and taken to gymnastics

LOVING.

Why can't I have an edit button?

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 05/09/2023 22:41

pompoms try the 3 dots on your comment, edit should be an option.

Restoration company rescheduled. Meeting is Thursday instead 🙄
I'm currently picking DS up from school, I'll be back with ta das later 🍒👋

BloomingHazel · 06/09/2023 00:30

Ta Das:
🥳 washed our bedding
🥳 took dogs to groomer
🥳 bathed dogs
🥳 washed dog beds and blankets
🥳 washed blankets from couches (2 LOLs)
🥳 bleached both bathrooms
🥳 cleaned oven
🥳 cleaned extractor fan (oven cleaner worked amazingly on this, embarrassed I didn't try it sooner!)
🥳 grocery shopping (only needed a few things)
🥳 picked up DS from school
🥳 took DS to get ice cream for his birthday
🥳 sorted out fridge
🥳 started on garlic rolls for dinner (for DH & DS)

I still need to rotate DW, handwash dishes and start on dinner. I have already got the dough for the rolls rising though.

BloomingHazel · 06/09/2023 04:24

Ta Das:
🧁 cooked dinner
🧁 rotated DW x2
🧁 handwashed dishes
🧁 wiped countertops
🧁 wiped fronts of bottom cupboards and drawers
🧁 got my lunch ready for tomorrow

I just have to take a shower & get my clothes out for tomorrow before I go to bed 😴

😆 pompoms a lot of the jobs I put on there only took me a few minutes each!
Today's ta das though looks like this:
😳 work
😳 ... nope, nothing else to add
That's it! I plan on taking my Jeep through the carwash on my way home, but there won't be much else to add, if anything!

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 07/09/2023 08:24

@partypompoms how is hula hooping working for you? I am always tempted, then remember I am not a ten year old slip of a thing anymore, I am nearly 50 and Quite Round!

DomesticElf · 07/09/2023 08:39

Good morning, everyone!
Yesterday was a lazy-ish day. Took the kids to the library in the morning, but afternoon onwards was spent eating take away in front of a telly. A friend came over for a coffee with her son, so I didn't even have to think of toddler entertainment. Bliss! On the other hand, very minimal flying was done, some S&S and hoovering of high traffic areas.

Today I am planning to tackle the kitchen. It's fairly under control, so shouldn't take long, with the only exception of the oven 🫠 I need to clean it but I don't want to. Really, really don't want to.

partypompoms · 07/09/2023 09:48

@InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon I absolutely love hula hopping and used to do it for an hour a day but that's been out the window for a couple of years since D3 arrived. I'm just aiming for 15 mins a day at the moment and I'm doing it in the garden.

The key is to buy a nice big weighted hoop and watch a you tube beginners video. Day 1 just do ten mins and the next day you'll feel battered and bruised. So don't do anything then. Then the next day do ten mins and somehow your body just gets used to it and you'll never feel in pain again from hooping.

Btw I'm in my 40's and could never hoop before when I was little.

@DomesticElf my oven needs doing to put that's a H job for winter. It wouldn't even occur for me to do it.

✅ cleaned out the foil and cling film drawer
✅ cleaned out the knives and utensils drawers
✅ pickled 1kg of cucumbers
✅ had friend over for iced coffee
✅ morning and afternoon routines
✅ 10 mins hula hooping
✅ made tea for two days worth
✅ quality playtime with kids
✅ duolingo

Aiming to upload a Vinted item

Currently at home eating lunch (left work early), waiting for the restoration company to show up, along with DH. Appt is in 20 minutes. Hopefully we'll get some answers 🤞 wish us luck!

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 08/09/2023 07:44

Good luck @BloomingHazel, hope the restoration company were useful!

@partypompoms thanks, maybe I will look again at hula hooping <coward>

@DomesticElf the electric car was good, so good we've agreed to trade in our diesel for it! DH's knees can't deal with long-distance clutch work anymore, so electric seemed more practical than petrol-but-automatic at this point.

@CherryogDog hope you sorted out the WM and the power is more reliable.

@Upsadiddles that sounds like a perfect last few days of the holidays. I'm amazed your DH didn't end up with his flipflops somewhere painful!

Ta da
❤️ washed DD's new linens for Uni 😬
🧡 Did more fiddly Uni shopping - chopsticks, reusable straws etc
💛 Three days spent with DM, as her blood pressure meds are playing havoc with her general wellbeing and it may all be based on a false reading anyway 🤦
💚 DS3 started German lessons and seems to be taking to it well (phew. A new language in Y9 in the hope of a GCSE is quite a big ask).
💙 Made pie for dinner and bonus jam tarts with leftover pastry
💜 Finally sorted out the diary for the rest of September.
❤️ menu plan
🧡 tesco order
💛 wrote a letter I've been avoiding
💚 took DS3 to tennis

Need to GMST (Get My Shit Together) today and plan properly for today / next week after walking BalloonHound and putting away the Tesco order. Also hoping not to melt 🥵!

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 08/09/2023 11:07

Mid-morning Ta Da:
🐕 Dog walked
🥐 breakfast with DH (sadly not croissants)
💉 Dog to vet for jabs, flea and worm meds, and manicure. He was unimpressed by the nail clipping but has lost weight and is now only 6.5kg and built like a racing snake!
🧺 LOL on
Just waiting for Tesco then need to go and straighten out the flea and worm meds (they've got out of sync with us) and go to the butchers before it gets too insanely hot.

Then I am starting my weekend as soon as I can get away with it, and getting on with making DD's bedspread into a weighted blanket for Uni!

MissDollyMix · 08/09/2023 11:10

Hello! Long-term mumsnetter here who has only just found this thread! This looks like exactly what I need! Please can I join? I’m just in the middle of (supposed to be) working but I really want to sit down and read through all these posts later this evening. I think I’ve found my tribe! Desperately needing to recapture my housekeeping mojo!

SingToTheSky · 08/09/2023 11:29

Hello!

Been a bit worn out having gone back to work - bit lame considering it’s only part time and mostly from home (entirely from home this week) but my brain is fried, and the heat hasn’t helped of course. The last two days I forgot to even keep a rolling list but I suspect I haven’t missed anything as I’ve mostly been acting like a beached whale when not at my desk 🤣

Tuesday ta da
💻LOL
💻bagged up clean blankets, bedding etc
💻took crockery downstairs
💻work
💻collected rubbish
💻decluttered and cleaned bathroom gradually through the day (Caglets all helped)
💻filled and ran DW
💻ordered tesco
💻rotated WM/TD
💻bagged up painting paraphernalia that isn’t worth keeping
💻put Cagletini to bed

Wednesday ta da
⌛️laundry/drying, two lots I think
⌛️bit of work

Thursday ta da
🚀booked free film festival tickets
🚀work
🚀emailed DS’ chemistry tutor as he’d caught my cold and couldn’t manage the lesson
🚀bit of home ed planning
🚀did new activity pack with Cagletini as it arrived in the post
🚀tried to get head round financial support info for DD1’s college

SingToTheSky · 08/09/2023 11:29

Welcome dolly nice to have you with us! 💐

CherryogDog · 08/09/2023 14:10

Hi Dolly 👋 welcome!

I'm away for a long weekend, wishing I'd booked for colder weather, it's roasting!
Before I left I did 4 LOLs, which I even put away for a change.

derrydee · 08/09/2023 14:27

Hi everyone - just reading through some of the posts and links. Can I ask what everyone is doing for the bedtime routine habit? FLs routine is the whole evening and I think I need to start small!

partypompoms · 08/09/2023 19:44

@MissDollyMix welcome along. Ask any questions you want to!

@derrydee bedtime routine is my absolute worst part of flying. I'm dead by 5pm.
My bare minimum is making sure I've washed up after tea, doors are locked, cat fed and I have water to drink at night. I like to be in bed at 10. Anything else is a bonus out of the question.

The real list to aim for is in the photo.

Flying out of summer (what summer?!)
OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 08/09/2023 21:05

Welcome Dolly

Derrydee I'm fairly sure FlyLady says pick 3 things and build it from there. My non negotiables are:
1.taking my meds,

  1. having a bath including taking makeup off and cleaning teeth,
  2. putting my clothes out for tomorrow

In reality I do a lot more:
Evening meal
Dishes washed up
Exercise
Laundry folded and put away
Quick tidy everywhere
