Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

I like the app as it has a tick list and I love a list.

Links are below 👇 and I'll tend to post the links the night before ready for the next day.

Cherry that sounds like a lovely and productive day! It'll be nice once you get the field how you want it, with the shelters and storage you need (and can claim your house back from the horse stuff).

I ended up falling asleep on the couch at 11pm last night for a little while, woke up to go to bed and was up until after 1am again 😳 as I couldn't fall back asleep 😴

Ta Das: almost 10am
☕️ 1st cup of coffee (very important!)
☕️ 1st lol in the washer
☕️ got dressed

DH has gone out for a couple of hours to help a friend work on a vehicle (paid work, thankfully). So while he's gone after my 2nd cup of coffee I'm going to clean the house, especially since I haven't been able to get to it since the teenage boys were here.
ILs will be coming here for dinner since it's a federal holiday (they aren't working either), but they are bringing the food this time. DH will cook it 😍 so I should get a break from cooking tonight.
I still need to meal plan and prep. The weather is changing so I'll be able to add more soups now.

DomesticElf · 04/09/2023 16:57

Place marking.
I have been stumbling through flying last few days. The weather has been glorious, so I'm trying to keep kids outside as much as possible, and that means housework gets shoved into 'to do later' pile.
It's a great weight loss plan though, running outside after toddler all day while lugging a sling, and baby, and bag, bike/scooter/ball 😅 I've got about 20kg of baby weight to shift, so I'm hoping this will work.

BloomingHazel · 04/09/2023 17:06

Elf 👋 how are you finding things with a toddler and a baby now? Do you think you've found a routine that works for you? Running around after a toddler is definitely a good source of exercise, it's like their energy doesn't stop!

CherryogDog · 04/09/2023 18:30

@DomesticElf 👋 I was wondering how you were getting on.
@BloomingHazel I do that a lot, fall asleep watching TV, then can't get to sleep in bed.
Although I said to DP this morning that my bed's so comfy all the time I'm sleeping I'm not appreciating the comfort 😆
I didn't finish my bedroom, I thought I'd try to fill another charity bag, started going through my wardrobe and decided to try all my dresses on. I hardly ever wear dresses, but now I'm extra lardy they may be the answer.
And then I was hungry and after I'd eaten I needed a rest lol.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/09/2023 19:19

I decided to wash my car. BIG mistake. It is covered in little black dots from road resurfacing. I have barely got a 1/4 of it clean enough to apply a coat of polish. At least i removed the mud. But god dammit, my bones and muscles are too old and creaky for that shit.

Also ta da
made decisions
run errands
couple of loads of washing
some washing up
make sure cupboard that needs deep cleaning is empty
request door off hinges for said cupboard so that it can air properly without falling fowl of bad memories and helpful people.

Just making tea and then more stuff to do that needs doing.

partypompoms · 04/09/2023 19:20

I'm so hot and exhausted I can barely type but I've done so much I want to get my list out there....

☀️ lol
☀️ cooker clean with knobs off and all!
☀️ full home bleurgh
☀️ cleaned windows
☀️ planted bulbs
☀️ planted up cuttings
☀️ sewn hollyhock seeds
☀️ decluttered a few items
☀️ sorted kids hair bobbles...a bigger job than it sounds
☀️weeded garden and got rid of dead sunflowers.
☀️ picked up Vinted parcel
☀️ fixed a few items that needed glueing
☀️ duolingo

Hi to everyone! Hope you haven't all melted away.

Links for tomorrow to follow...

hills thank you for the reminder to clean my Jeep, I'll take it through the carwash tomorrow, I think.
pompoms that's quite a list!

Ta Das:
🌻 vacuumed main floor & stairs
🌻 had DS vacuum downstairs
🌻 vacuumed pool table top
🌻 mopped living room, kitchen & dining room
🌻 mopped laundry room & pantry (both downstairs in the basement)
🌻 wiped skirting boards in dining room & kitchen
🌻 wiped corners and doors that looked a little grubby (I can't wait until they are all painted with better, cleanable paint)
🌻 LOLs x3, including towels
🌻 lunch (leftovers)
🌻 currently sitting down for a small break

To Dos:
🧁 bleach both bathrooms
🧁 clean mirrors & glass on doors
🧁 meal plan I may be putting it off
🧁 grocery shopping (may be done tomorrow at this point, although I do need eggs 🤔)
🧁 at least 1 more lol

I'm feeling ready for a nap, but better not so I can sleep at a reasonable time tonight.

partypompoms · 04/09/2023 21:08

I thought I'd share some photos of the app. There are lists that you can tick off. I love ticking a list

Hmm maybe the missing cog for me @DitzyDaffodils , I didn't realise about the additional time !

@EquallyDetermined You are absolutely not being a downer - i value honesty and you are definitely not the first person to say their dc found it hard ! They have told her 8 hours of work at college today so it may make her rethink priorities.

Aww happy birthday to your ds for tomorrow @BloomingHazel !! I feel a bit guilty because Tuesday is our busiest evening so I won't see dd1 much ! Plus she hasn't got many 'presents' because we booked her a block of 10 driving lessons which cost £340!! So just some chocolates and body shop bits that she likes but I feel super guilty ! Ooopps for the falling to sleep on the sofa 🙈 it seems like you had a Power Nap rather than sleep!!

Hope you're feeling a little better @SingToTheSky ?

Definitely enjoy the weather @DomesticElf!! Enjoy spending time with dc

🙈 sorry your car clean didn't go as planned @HillsBesideTheSea great tada list !

@partypompoms that is an incredible list !! Well done ! The app looks good , I tend to follow flylady and tomm , I have the tomm app but not the FL one !

I'm absolutely shattered , first day back to work today and I've only just sat down from 6 this morning 🙈 the dc didn't even have any clubs on and I haven't even managed any zone work 😫 absolutely dreading the rushing around for the rest of the week 😩

Tada

✅ up washed dressed breakfast
✅ made bed
✅ dd2 up , breakfast , washed , dressed
✅ hoovered downstairs
✅breakfast pots
✅ dropped dd2 at grandmas
✅ work (meeting after meeting then some more meetings!)
✅ picked dd2 up
✅ tea
✅ cleaned kitchen
✅ 30 mins ironing
✅ everyone clothes out for tomorrow & bags packed
✅ LOL
✅ dd2 showered and bedtime routine
✅ 1 hour coursework

I'm having a g&t tonight then I'm off to bed to read 😊

Upsadiddles · 04/09/2023 22:26

Thanks for the new thread Pompoms! And thanks for the lovely old one Hazel, you did well being in a different time zone and with all the house stuff going on.

I’m impressed with all the talk of car washing. I need to hoover mine, which I do tend to keep on top of, but I confess I have never washed any of my cars ever Blush. DH occasionally takes pity on it and sticks it through the car wash but that’s it.

Hope you’re feeling better Sing.

Hope the funeral (and epic travelling) went as well as it could Balloons.

I’d completely missed that Ditzy, thanks. I do get very frustrated doing my home bleurgh (Saturday for me) and having to tidy up everyone’s shit first.

YesTaDas:
✔️home bleurghed downstairs as I didn’t get a chance on saturday
✔️cleaned hob - one step ahead of the game for a change
✔️stripped and remade beds
✔️did a silly amount of laundry
✔️hoovered under the sofa cushions. It was grim.
✔️gave the living room floor and skirting boards a really good on-hands-and knees scrub
✔️got the paddling pool out for the DC and had a lovely afternoon in the garden

TaDas:
✔️Got DD1 to try on her new uniform, stuck name stickers in and hung it all up ready for Wednesday
✔️ sorted old uniform into recycle, donate to school and keep for DD2 piles
✔️got DD1 to try on her autumn/winter stuff, put too small stuff away for DD2, and wrote a list of what I need to buy (we are having a girly day out tomorrow as DD2 is at nursery)
✔️with DD1’s unenthusiastic help gave her room a good tidy and decluttered a few bits
✔️gave kitchen benches a good wipe down
✔️cleaned down the back/inside the kitchen radiator. One of the cats likes to lie underneath it and I could pretty much make a new cat with what I got out.
✔️had another hour in the paddling pool, and an hour at the beach once DH got in to enjoy the sunshine
✔️DNLMS on discovering DH’s sandy flip flops in the bath

EquallyDetermined · 04/09/2023 22:57

Some great lists there. Special medal for you @Upsadiddles on your last item 🩴

I tend to take my car to the car wash a couple of times a year and give it a clean with a microfibre cloth in between, I don't drive anywhere particularly muddy or dusty so it doesn't get too bad. About 6 months ago I had it valeted for the first time ever and OMG it was like a new car. I hoovered it every weekend for a few months but have let it slip a bit again now so might need to get it done professionally again as a treat.

Not much Flying here today, usual swish and swipe, clean kitchen etc as it was a work day, just folded and sorted one LOL which DH put on this morning and DD hung out to dry.

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2023 08:39

Morning all! Looks like a lot of fledglings are having very productive starts to the new term 💪🏆 it’s only really a new term for me so far, DD1 and DS only start their new colleges properly next week and DD2 is home ed full time, so this week is a nice slow start back to routine thankfully.

YesTaDa
😷work (mainly meetings, didn’t feel very productive!)
😷sent an email and finally got confirmation about when DS starts lessons - turns out I don’t need to do anything else before that

That was it. 4 hours work on top of my cold was more than enough! Today I’ll do a bit of admin later but I really need to get on with house stuff, even the teenagers have talked about needing to clean so it must be bad 😳 but obviously they’re still asleep - as is Cagletini - so I’ll just get on with some bits that they don’t need to help with.

po3.1
❗️LOL of just Cagletini’s clothes
❗️Bag up stuff from dryer cupboard (it’s all blankets/bedding and I’m slowly collecting it together before decluttering)
❗️Take down crockery from upstairs

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2023 09:22

po3.2
❗️Find diary and check stuff with DH
❗️Fill a bin bag with rubbish
❗️Bit of work accompanied by hot ribena and honey

partypompoms · 05/09/2023 11:53

@DitzyDaffodils I think I need to go back and reread your post about these extra minutes we spend on jobs each day. I definitely don't have a full handle on the FlyladyPlus method.

@Upsadiddles that's a great list! Well done you.

I was up at 6 which I enjoy and got ahead oh myself.

✅ washed kitchen cupboard fronts
✅ 10 mins hula hooping
✅ morning routine
✅ afternoon routine
✅ quick food shop and some clothes returns
✅ made playdough for the toddler group tomorrow
✅ made 36 cupcakes for toddler group
☀️ aiming for cutlery drawer clean
☀️homemade pizzas for tea

Huge lists of TaDas from you all!
We've got a power cut, luckily my cordless hoover was charged so I've had a whizz round all the house except the stairs.
Power came back on, and it was a toss up between having breakfast or washing the floors.
The floors won, and just as I finished the power went back on. The WM is half way through a cycle, and the power won't be back on until 4.30 according to Northern Power grid.

DomesticElf · 05/09/2023 14:12

So impressed with all Ta Da lists 😍

Hazel I think I found my rhythm with two of them. Littlest one is a velcro baby, so I am a queen of the sling now. I am expecting a toned back by the time he grows out of the velcro phase! McToddler was velcro child too, so it's not too much of a shock.
Happy birthday to your DS! Hope he has a fab day ☺️
Cherry fair play to you powering on with housework with all the power cuts. Hopefully WM won't throw a wobbly after being interrupted mid cycle.
Hills the extent of my car washing last week was finally throwing out all empty water bottles out. It was starting to get embarrassing. I am yet to put it through a washer... or hoover inside.. some day. Maybe.
Balloon how is the electric car?
Btw, I think I know who you are when you were on this thread in the past (Mc here ☺️👋)

Today McToddler is in nursery, so I managed to catch up with the house a little.

TaDas:
🧺All 3 fishtanks sorted
🧺X2 LOLs done and out to dry
🧺Dry laundry folded and put away
🧺rubbish out (it would have gone out by itself if I left it any longer..)
🧺Bedsheets stripped, beds aired, then remade
🧺DW rotated
🧺Kitchen quickly tidied. Planning some proper kitchen zone flying on Thursday.
🧺Dining room straightened out, several hot spots put out.

Our house buying is progressing nicely, hopefully will be closing soon and then final move. I am getting really excited about it! I am fed up with current rental, it's not particularly child friendly.

BloomingHazel · 05/09/2023 14:53

sunny happy birthday to your DD! 🥳🎂🧁Thank you for the birthday wishes for DS, we have been celebrating his birthday all weekend and we gave his gifts to him last night when the ILs were here. He got mostly money and gift cards in the end, although we did get him a few bits for his VR headset and air soft. He said he wants to help cook his birthday dinner tonight - chicken Alfredo. Between that and DH ordering his gifts this year (usually it's all me!), I've had it easy!
I hope things get a little easier for you, try to spend a few minutes in the evening to get clothes out, lunches etc, if you haven't already. It really does help!

pompoms thank you for the reminder of the tick list on the app. I had gone through and started to personalise it, but that was more than a couple of years ago. We're in a different house now so really should redo it again.

Up sandy flip flops in the bath?! 🤬 you did well to restrain yourself from creating a new patio after that!

ED I would love to have my Jeep professionally detailed, although from some of the cleaning work done around here that I've seen, I wouldn't be happy and can do a better job myself!

Sing you have been productive with that cold of yours, I hope you feel better soon! Keep your fluids up. Hopefully the others will be willing to step up and help since they've said something about the house. Create a list and let them get on with it!

Cherry you did well to keep on top of cleaning with a power cut! I would have used it as an excuse to not do anything!

Elf 🤞for the toned back for you! Although I'm sure it'll be working more than just your back, it'll be a whole body workout surely? Cuddly babies are the best, but can make it hard to get things done. Slings really do come in handy, although I never had one for mine. I'm still really excited for you re buying your house, especially since this one doesn't really work for you.

Searchingforsunnydays · 05/09/2023 14:58

Aww @DomesticElf , my youngest was nicknamed little velcro and even at 7 , she is the most snuggliest, however went into school brilliantly this morning even though it's a new school so I'm thinking that stage is slowly fading as she's growing in confidence ❤️ I still have my sling and can't bring myself to throw it out ! A massive achievement to get that tada list done !

Hope your power comes back in soon @CherryogDog!

I like to get up around 6 @partypompoms, lets me get up and sorted before the kids get up - great tada list ❤️

@SingToTheSky good luck to ds and dd1 starting colleges next week are they excited ?

I'll catch up with the rest of personals and my tada list later, I'm off in the school run !

BloomingHazel · 05/09/2023 15:02

I ended up taking a nap yesterday, for 40 minutes!
I did manage to get our clean clothes put away though. I was going to bleach both bathrooms, but ILs showed up earlier than expected so instead I spent time with them! So they will get done today.

To Dos:
📝 wash our bedding (I washed DS's bedding and the spare bedding this weekend, after the boys left)
📝 take dogs to groomer
📝 bathe dogs
📝 wash dog beds and blankets
📝 bleach both bathrooms
📝 grocery shopping (only need a few things)
📝 meeting with restoration company
📝 pick up DS from school (depending on how long meeting takes)
📝 maybe take DS to get ice cream for his birthday
📝 cook dinner, with help from DS
📝 sort out fridge, some things need to go!

I should start by having my 2nd cup of coffee though, I may even need a 3rd today!

CherryogDog · 05/09/2023 16:14

I went shopping and to get a cup of coffee, power was back on when I got home.
There's no way on my WM to see where it was interrupted, I vaguely remember my last one picking up where it stopped but I might be imagining that.
I FB messaged Ebac, and the reply was "I don't know where your WM stopped". FFS 😅

partypompoms · 05/09/2023 18:45

@CherryogDog why on earth is the power going off?

I've got the kids off to bed and now I'm procrastinating icing the cupcakes. I really CBA in this heat.

OP posts:
partypompoms · 05/09/2023 18:51
