Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

I like the app as it has a tick list and I love a list.

Links are below 👇 and I'll tend to post the links the night before ready for the next day.

What a day. It all started well initially. I knew things were likely to go pear shaped when I started on redoing a fishtank at 5pm.. with two small kids. I should have known. 3 hours of mayhem while I was elbow deep in fishy water, subrates, filters. Then McToddler decided to vomit all over the corridor, part carpeted (he was kissing his baby brother after he had his rotavirus vaccine... I tried to stop it, I really tried). Little one was unsettled and wanted boob, big one wanted mummy. Then to top it all off, little one had a nappy blow out up the back.

At least the tank is looking good and hallway carpet is now shampooed.

SingToTheSky · 29/09/2023 21:22

Wait what it can’t be nearly October yet 😩

DomesticElf · 29/09/2023 21:29

Sing tell me about it. I want to stop the time for a bit.

What an episode! Why does it all happen together like that?
Btw you've really put me off having fish.

Morning all.

Oh elf I’d missed your post last night - what a horrible evening 😞💐 hope today is better!

Cherry sorry you’re in flare up 💐 fibro sucks beyond all reason.

⚒ordered a book for Cagletini
⚒last bit of work for the week
⚒looked at uni module forum
⚒LOL1
⚒LOL1 in dryer
⚒home ed with Cagletini (DS at college)
⚒LOL2
⚒took Cagletini to the park
⚒made arrangements to visit mum next week
⚒gathered lots of rubbish in my room
⚒decided on lots of activity/work books to go to charity shop
⚒LOL2 in dryer
⚒put a huge pile of recycling in bin (also from bedroom)
⚒put Cagletini to bed

Determined to make the most of today, so now I’ve lounged in bed for a bit I need to get up. Does anyone else find that if they don’t start something early in the day, they just end up more lethargic and never get anything done? 😩

po3.1
❗️Breakfast as the only reason I didn’t go back to sleep is that I’m hungry 🙈🤣 must have water and supplements too, I forgot yesterday
❗️LOL (probably just Cagletini’s stuff)
❗️Pack up charity shop stuff I sorted yesterday and put it with the rest by the front door

partypompoms · 30/09/2023 08:49

@SingToTheSky definitely if I get up and at it the day is great. I'm very much a morning person. If it doesn't get done by 2:30pm it's not getting done.

This post was originally much longer, then I re-read and took a screenshot to think over and work on. So here's the tl:dr version.

It's been a difficult month, emotionally, but some things are getting better. The house is more controlled. The clutter is tidy and stored in categories which makes it easier to see what to tackle if/when I get round to it. Food is healthier for anyone who chooses to eat it. The garden is still bad, but I love being out in the fresh air, tidying up.

There's still huge to-do lists for the house, garden, and garage. We're moving at glacial speed because so much else is piling up that we need to discuss and decide upon. I find it exhausting.

I'm going to approach October with more determination. I don't much enjoy the next few months, but I can plod on.

SingToTheSky · 30/09/2023 10:31

Good to see you scourgify I can so relate to your post. You have done really well getting stuff done though. 💐

I am feeling much less motivated following another awkward conversation with DH, but he’s just taken the girls out to their dance classes, DS is drawing upstairs and I should make the most of the time. I’ve just gathered some fairly obvious rubbish but am flagging again already, I’m struggling to make any decisions so I’m going to try doing stuff that doesn’t need much thought.

po3.2
❗️Gather some empty storage baskets I’ve seen, get rid of any not worth keeping and put the nice ones ready to clean and store (I know I know, the irony is not lost on me)
❗️Clear and sweep part of hallway
❗️Empty and move two Trofast units into that space as that will be our shoe storage

The shoe storage thing is something I thought of changing a while ago as the racks just get messy, and we are just going to need our own baskets instead. I keep putting it off because of having more important things to change but I think actually I may as well do something about it since it keeps playing on my mind anyway.

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 30/09/2023 10:34

I keep meaning to post on here, then getting distracted!
@DomesticElf what an evening, I'm so sorry! Hope you are all feeling calmer, weller and well-rested now.

@CherryogDog sorry to hear you are still in sickbay. Sending healing vibes.

@Scourgify it sounds like you've put some really important foundations in place there. Onwards and upwards, and remember we are always here if it's tough - No Fledgling Left Behind.

@partypompoms , @SingToTheSky I am definitely a morning person. After 2pm my figurin' head is back in its box and it's rote tasks only. Thank goodness I'm self-employed 😂.

@HillsBesideTheSea sending generalised good vibes for not actually killing anyone.

Now, I am going out of the house on foot for the first time in 11 days. Wish me luck!

JewelleryCat · 30/09/2023 11:01

I cleaned the surfaces and got some laundry going in the machine, will hang it up soon so I guess that’s a win lol. Now time for a well earned coffee before doing a bit more later

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/09/2023 12:48

Thank you balloon
Sorry you had such a horrible evening Elf

So today is a hit the ground running day.
Ta da
strain chicken stock and put in fridge (only just cooled down from last night's slow cooker run)
check on beef stock's frozen state
sort out plan of action re internet orders, loft access, potato processing etc
set up the monthly bits of October and the 1st week in my planner
Portion beef stock and wrap into little grease proof paper parcels
1st load of washing on
look longingly at the farm day information and make the decision to not prioritise because there is a lot of other stuff to do
empty dw, and work on reloading

I should probably go get breakfast and find clothes and pain killers.

partypompoms · 30/09/2023 13:28

@Scourgify I think starting October with more vigour sounds good for you and for all of us. A fresh start and clean plate each month is a positive way forward. Like a big Monday coming round for all us to make new goals.

@SingToTheSky you sound very productive and shoe storage will absolutely make you feel better.

@JewelleryCat you've reminded me that I have wet washing to get out so I need to get off MN

I've had a good early start and have done my hula hooping, visited MIL and pickled 3 jars of cucumbers.

BloomingHazel · 30/09/2023 15:18

Elf your evening sounded rough! I hope things are going better today 💐

Sing sorry to hear the conversation with DH unmotivated you, the shoe storage solution sounds like a good idea though!

Scourgify is it the weather that makes you not like the next few months?

balloon are you feeling better now? I hope your walk/ time outside went well

cat well done on getting going today! It's family fun day, do you have anything planned?

hills boy you've had a productive day already ignoring the comment about breakfast at 1pm

pompoms that sounds like a productive day for you too!

Today is going to be a busy day!
Once I've finished my 1st cup of coffee (it's almost all gone) I'll need to start baking the requested lemon blueberry loaf for MIL for her birthday.
DD is coming today, I'm taking her shopping to stock up on food. She's really struggling financially, mainly because her roommate is a leech and also lost her job, so now everything falls on DD (not that she contributed at all before that though).
After lunch (TBD), we're going to play some mini golf for MILs birthday, then head out for pizza.
I may take DD clothes shopping too, it really depends on time though.

Ta Das from the last few days:
☕️ vacuumed main floor (multiple times due to workmen)
☕️ cleaned bathroom (again, multiple times)
☕️ pool drained, dried and put away for the season
☕️ gifts sorted for MIL and ILs anniversary
☕️ full days of work (10hrs each, as usual), with taking the dogs to ILs during the day (because of the workmen) I'm now out of the house for 12+ hrs a day, other than my day off - Tuesday.

The next 2 weeks are going to be insane!
Something is happening every single day (Mon-Fri) and we will need to do a bunch of shuffling bedrooms, then reshuffling again. Starting tomorrow. I'm tired and stressed just thinking about it! BUT, things are moving along!

🍒👋 to everyone, I may, or may not, be back later

JewelleryCat · 30/09/2023 15:32

Hazel Thank you! No, nothing planned for family fun day. I forgot that was supposed to be today, just cracked on and did housework. Did you do anything?

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/09/2023 17:41

Family fun could simply be all sitting and watching a program later tonight. it doesn't have to be fancy, ellaborate or require a lot of energy and resources.

Family fun here was hanging out in the kitchen during cooking lunch. 15mins of just me and ds having a chat.

partypompoms · 30/09/2023 18:32

Family fun day here was just hanging out at home. We read some stories and did some colouring. Very low key but absolutely priceless.

✅ I also washed the bird feeders for October so feeling ahead.
✅ thinking of October I've also decided on my monthly challenge. This month was hula hooping and cold showers each day...I'm actually going to carry that on as unbelievably I've come to love it and I feel great afterwards.

So October is going to be practising to sit down and stand up without using any hands. I saw it being talked about on a thread about old age a few days ago. It's bloody hard so I'm going to have a go each evening.

EquallyDetermined · 30/09/2023 20:58

Right, the new thread is ready for tomorrow

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/housekeeping/4909486-october-flying-lets-get-those-fledgling-nests-cosy

One of the reasons I have been absent so much recently is that I have been VERY busy decluttering, we had a blitz earlier in the year for building work and want to keep the momentum going, we are on the DCs bedrooms now, which, frankly have been allowed to fester for far too long. Getting there though, DS is away at uni again now so I have been spending a lot of time in his room which has been nice, clearing out old toys and gazillions of match attax cards.

BloomingHazel · 01/10/2023 07:24

cat I baked for MILs birthday, then we went out to play mini golf, followed by pizza at a local restaurant. It was a very good day overall. Thank you for asking. We always do a family dinner with my ILs every Saturday, usually we rotate who cooks. We are very close to them and enjoy their company.

I'm going to jump on over to the other thread - see you there 👋

SingToTheSky · 01/10/2023 07:40

YesTaDa
🐴 packed some stuff into charity bag
🐴LOL
🐴gathered rubbish in living room
🐴moved shoe storage stuff downstairs, not sure it’ll work as I’d hoped
🐴sorted through a box of paperwork
🐴LOL in dryer

Scourgify · 01/10/2023 08:03

Thank you for all the encouragement. I cleaned some of the kitchen and had a very long nap.

See you all on the new thread 😀
