Flying out of summer (what summer?!)

Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

I like the app as it has a tick list and I love a list.

Links are below 👇 and I'll tend to post the links the night before ready for the next day.

Excellent news about the shower hazel!

I definitely want my bedroom to be a sanctuary sometimes that means even DH can’t be in it. One of the decluttering YouTubers I watch says about starting with the bedroom because it’s the first room you see when you wake up etc. Makes sense! I’m finding it tricky though because so much of the stuff belongs elsewhere and the storage for that isn’t organised yet. However I mustn’t get disheartened as I made a lot of progress over summer with getting rid of stuff from all over the house. Now that I’ve settled back into work hopefully I can fit more decluttering in! And get back to the gym/pool as I was so exhausted the last few weeks.

Dolly I also want to get the DC helping out more. We’ve really slipped with our expectations, DH especially tends to just get on with stuff himself. I was thinking a list of “must be done each week” tasks would be better for DD1 as she’s out so much and can just fit them in when she’s home. Might have to do the same with DS as he now might have to be at college three days a week not two (this is not what we’ve been told for over a year, and it messes a lot of other stuff up!).

I’ve been awake a while but haven’t got going at all.

po3.1
❗️Message work friend re later
❗️Find extra rubbish since it’s bin day (that came around fast!) and check if it’s also recycling - if there’s room in the recycling bin I need to fill it!!!
❗️Shower, hair, defrost legs

MissDollyMix · 20/09/2023 08:49

Morning All,
I can’t believe how lovely you all are! Thank you all for making me feel so welcome and keeping me inspired.
I’m another one who’s bedroom does not feel like a sanctuary! Sometimes it feels more like a laundry room I sleep in! I dont know if anyone else find this but I think because there’s so much laundry being sorted in there it makes it very dusty? Anyway….
Weather feels very autumnal here today 🍂🌧️ DC have been dispatched to school and it’s too wet to walk to the dogs just now - I’ll try and fit that in whilst DS is with his tutor later as she lives near some good dog walking places! I’ve had my morning cuppa- now for my daily plan!

⭐️ LOL and then LOL some more! (Rain has stopped play on the washing side of things and I’m refusing to use tumble dryer because it’s ££££ but there’s so much to put away that will keep me busy for a few hours I reckon!)
⭐️ Sort out drawer in kitchen that is overflowing and not at all pleasant
⭐️ wash kitchen floor (probably after the aforementioned dog walk!)
⭐️ Get to a Pilates class

@SingToTheSky good luck with the bedroom decluttering. Makes sense about prioritising the bedroom - I always start in the hall or kitchen and then feel like my bedroom is the last room I do. Also good luck with the gym- I’m just trying to get back into a gym routine after being very lazy all summer!

Hope everyone has a good day!

BloomingHazel · 20/09/2023 13:20

Sing you'll get there re your bedroom! You are halfway there already, with an idea of the things that don't belong in there. It does help to have somewhere to put stuff though and you have been making lots of progress.
dolly I sort my clothes as I pull them out of the dryer (it's different when they're hung up, but this could also be applied). I have 2 baskets for clean clothes, a large wide one for DH & I and a small one for DS. As I pull them out of the dryer (one thing at a time), I fold it and put it in the correct basket. Our basket is wide enough for 2 piles of clothes, mine on the left, DH on the right.
I have timed it, if I end up with 3 loads worth in the basket it'll take me 10-15 minutes to hang up or put in drawers. no I don't always put them away each time
I don't know if that's helpful or not, however, my bedroom gets dusty because we have a ceiling fan in it (the dust ends up on, and near, the ceiling too)

DomesticElf · 20/09/2023 13:48

Dolly I am on mat leave at the moment, but usually work full time, often antisocial hours. It's definitely challenge doing any housework when working. I found the routines, once established, made a huge difference in keeping the house clean.
Re laundry, I find putting each load away as it dries makes it a lot easier and avoids mountains of clean laundry waiting to be put away. For the me, the bigger the pile, the less I want to deal with it 😬
Hazel fantastic, hopefully all will go to plan!

Ta das:
😎Hoover upstairs and downstairs
😎Beds stripped, aired, and remade
😎Usual kitchen routines
😎LOL

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/09/2023 19:08

Yesterday I was busy on my feet all day for a work thing, and after the crash and burn kitchen session I was in no fit state to do anything today. So i have rested. And an early night is in order.

partypompoms · 20/09/2023 20:15

Oh heck I've just finished a zoom
Night class and I had no idea what was going on. I've booked a language class and I'm totally out of my depth.

Few memorable ta das here:

✅ returned M&S stuff
✅ worked!
✅ double pick up
✅ put a LOL on for tomorrow - too wet today!
✅evening routine

I am actually most proud of the evening routine because I was struggling with this a couple of days ago but good to do it and be in bed before 10!

Tomorrow I have volunteer emails to catch up with and a toddler to take to soft play.

InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon · 21/09/2023 16:33

Just hopping on briefly to say DM is improving markedly, but still in hospital - and I appear to have caught mumps!

So I am stepping away from any and all flying until I'm in less pain and my face is a normal shape again.

DomesticElf · 21/09/2023 17:43

Balloon delighted to hear your DM is making progress! Oh no to mumps. Flying can definitely wait until you are better. Hopefully you will get well looked after while you are recuperating.

I've done very minimal flying today, had a 'sod it' day. House is a mess but today I don't care 💅

partypompoms · 21/09/2023 19:58

@InAndOutOfTheRedBalloon mumps sounds scary. Make sure you rest and stay in pyjamas all day so you aren't tempted to do too much.

YesTaDa
💠sorted through the rest of DD1’s unwanted clothes/cosplay stuff (been sitting in a bag for ages) and divided into charity and rubbish
💠changed Cagbunny litter
💠gathered two more bin bags full of rubbish
💠towel LOL
💠brunch with colleague followed by looong meeting (at least it was in person)
💠towels in dryer
💠made dinner with Cagletini’s help

Felt like quite a productive morning yesterday - it was bin day and there was loads of space left so it inspired me to collect more to declutter quickly. What’s worrying is just how quickly I could find so much to throw away and the house doesn’t look much different!

Ta Da
😩bit of work
😩emailed college to confirm that yes, DS did start maths today, because they hadn’t actually told us the start date
😩made sure because DH didn’t that DS was up and ready for chemistry lesson
😩quick cry chat with work besties
😩walked to station because the bus drove past me, dropped bus pass on the way
😩got train to meet DS in the next town where he has chemistry, while asking DH to walk along the same roads once Cagletini finished gym in case he could find bus pass
😩got next train to college town, located classroom and dropped DS off for maths
😩attempted to speak to college about their timetabling error. No luck, very disheartening as for autistic DS it’s a distressingly big change from what we were told
😩pulled self together and had some peaceful time with late lunch
😩got train then taxi home with DS
😩decided plan for tomorrow as it turns out his older friend is not getting the same train on Fridays after all and I don’t think DS is quite ready to go alone yet
😩put Cagletini to bed

Today was one of those days where it really did feel like everything was going wrong 😬 I am absolutely shattered, and will
be more so after tomorrow, I think I’m going to bed soon without dinner 😴

BUT I’m also counting my blessings because:
🌈I have lovely friends both online and IRL who were very reassuring
🌈DH did find my bus pass by the pavement where someone had put it on a wall
🌈DS enjoyed his lesson and is feeling confident (which also reassured me that I’ve done a half decent job of preparing him)
🌈station staff were very kind and helpful with a ticket issue which saved me money
🌈for a large part of the journey home we could see this nice rainbow 🥰

Night all! ❤️

Flying out of summer (what summer?!)
SingToTheSky · 21/09/2023 21:38

Oh yes and another blessing to count:
🌈I got home to find a letter saying my student loan (which I had to delay applying for because of a system error) has been approved so I don’t have to worry about starting my new module!!! 🥳

Right, must go to bed. Will put some comedy on the iPad for a bit first I think. Early start tomorrow!

BloomingHazel · 22/09/2023 04:14

Lovely rainbow 🌈 Sing it sounds like you had a tough day, but you did have some good things happen too. You accomplished quite a bit too!

balloon that's good news about your mum! Take it easy yourself though, it sounds painful! Sick around for the chat though, there's plenty of blankets, drinks and snacks in the naughty recovery corner.

derry well done on getting into a routine with your evening routine, especially then being able to go to bed at a reasonable time.

Elf sometimes you need days where nothing gets done, especially when you have your hands full with a toddler and infant!

pompoms you were busy with lots of ta das! Having people over is always a good excuse to get the house sorted too.

Today has been a day.
This morning, as I was getting ready for work, I happened to notice something missing in the bathroom - the spout for the bath! The project manager grabbed the wrong box, and got the one without the bath spout! I texted him (once it was a reasonable time, I thought 5:30am was too early) and he's going to get it sorted, which also means the plumber needs to come back 🤦‍♀️
That'll get done Monday, first thing, then the tile installers will get the tile up.

They got the shed down all the way too, so progress is starting. And, we got a date for the trusses to be delivered: 6th October! They'll plan to start the following week, apparently! Eek!

I also upset a coworker today, not intentionally. Apologies were said, I think we've moved on now, which is good. But I felt really bad!
Now I have a headache, and starting to get a tender throat 😞 I've been drinking chamomile tea and honey this evening, but I'm going to have to take some medicine, I really don't want to get sick! An early night is in order too.

Ta Das:
🫖 worked all day
🍯 took the Jeep through the car wash
🫖 cooked some yummy courgettes my boss grew in her garden and brought in (to go with dinner)
🍯 cut up a tomato, also from her garden that was the best tasting tomato I have had in a very long time, if ever!
🫖 finished loading DW after dinner
🍯 for my lunch ready for tomorrow

I just have to take a shower, get my clothes out for tomorrow (the weather is starting to change, hence the tender throat), take meds, then go to bed!
🍒👋 to everyone, and sorry if I missed someone

partypompoms · 22/09/2023 05:16

@SingToTheSky but the house is different. It's a whole bag lighter of rubbish. That's great news!

🌈 I hope the timetabling error gets sorted asap so things can run more smoothly.

@BloomingHazel great you can all move on from the coworker thing. It's very hard working with other humans.

How did you cook your courgettes? And why is there no emoji for courgette? I would use it a lot.

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 22/09/2023 05:28

I roasted them, probably a few minutes too long in the end though, but they were still delicious 😋

CherryogDog · 22/09/2023 19:45

Hi everyone, just popping in to say I'm still in the naughty corner/ sick bay.
Day 5 of antibiotics and not much improvement.
I've managed 3 LOLs, cleaned my window frame and sill from when we had the really heavy rain which came through the top of the window.
Cooked one meal and washed some pots.
Not all in one day though!
My house is a filthy tip and it's depressing being ill and sitting in it.
Lots of TaDas from everyone, hopefully I'll be flying again soon!

partypompoms · 22/09/2023 19:59

@CherryogDog oh hod it's awful sitting in a messy environment but try and block it out of your mind and embrace the rest.

✅ No missions here with car, bag or bed change here.
But I did
✅ get all the autumn winter stuff out for the kids. Massive washing piles now as it all smells so musty. Why is that? It goes in clean and it's in sucky bags but comes out stinking.
✅morning and afternoon routine
✅hula hooping
✅ night class revision
✅ 3 lol
✅ middle child to swimming
✅ran some errands
✅ wine and pizza!

I don't think it's possible to get used things 💯 clean Pompoms. I mean it's totally clean enough to safely wear. Used clothing and bedding etc grows bacteria when it's stored long enough though, that's what the smell is

partypompoms · 22/09/2023 20:53

@DitzyDaffodils

Ok so don't buy new bags or anything like that? I wonder can I put something in the bags to help? Bicarbonate?

Originally I thought it was because they were up in the attic and our house was full of mould. But since we moved the bags live in the airing cupboard and the house is a new build so clean and no mould.

OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 22/09/2023 21:29

I've no idea of things to help. I'm a basic sort of person. Each season I shop my wardrobe and decide what I'm wearing, wash it and put it back in the drawers. The rest is left to fester until it's needed. Obviously it's all washed as usual the rest of the time. I guess it's a situation like any other. I've realized as I get older that nothing improves with lack of use. So if you don't want the smell my advice is to have a capsule wardrobe that gets layered as necessary so you don't have clothes put away for a long time

DomesticElf · 22/09/2023 21:38

Pompoms I hate that musty smell.
Hazel hooray for a speedy timeline, and hopefully no crucial bits would get forgotten like the spout for the bath. With creeping colds, I find high dose vitamin C for few days helps (like 2g a day in divided doses). If taken early enough it can stop the lurgy, but again no guarantee and usual disclaimer about medical advice from strangers on the internet applies 😬
Cherry I wish there were those thingies horses wear when going on the roads to stop them from being startled by cars but for humans. May help to stop seeing the mess and let you relax 😊

Ta das:
👍Sorted the kitchen. It was quite something just after one day of me not doing anything in there. But all under control now.
👍DW rotated
👍Dining room sorted: table cloth changed, hotspots put out, toddler's booster seat wiped.
👍Lolx1 and out to dry
👍Dry laundry folded and put away
👍Evening routine
👍All surfaces in bedroom antibac-ed, bedside tables tidied. Bedroom is usually fairly under control, the main problem being dust.

CherryogDog · 23/09/2023 01:20

@DomesticElf blinkers! And I swear men must be born with them already installed 😅
