Welcome to this long running thread, we may seem clicky, but all are welcome to join in!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Habit of the month of August is Laundry

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (what's that again?? 🤔)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change).

I like the app as it has a tick list and I love a list.

Links are below 👇 and I'll tend to post the links the night before ready for the next day.

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
@SingToTheSky we had really loud thunder, thought the roof was caving in!
@BloomingHazel that looks awful, hope everything gets sorted soon!
@partypompoms 💐, I've only heard of PMDD because Cathy on Emmerdale has it, but I went through something similar when I was perimenopausal, I thought when I went to the GP and explained what I was doing she'd section me!
I'm still in the naughty/ sick bay, thought I was getting better but seem to have a secondary infection, I can't move without breaking into a sweat and coughing until my eyes feel they're going to fall out.
Hope you all have great days.

SingToTheSky · 18/09/2023 09:06

Sorry you feel so rough cherry 💐

And sorry about the useless H elf 🤬

Searching I have mild PCOS (polycystic ovaries) and have some of those symptoms. I have to have an annual hba1c as it goes hand in hand with insulin resistance (I had gestational diabetes as well)

Half an hour on hold and the issue was resolved in about 3 minutes 🤣 LOL is on so I need to just eat something and jump in the shower before my 9.30 meeting.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/09/2023 14:24

BloomingHazel · 18/09/2023 15:14

Cherry that sounds awful! I hope you feel better soon 💐
Sing it seems it's always a long hold for a quick fix!
hills that's quite a ta da list! I can imagine the feelings you have for the people, and not good ones 😱

I'm at work today, so we'll see if I have any ta das 🤷‍♀️

Elf it is the not recommended blitz method. Which due to the people sensibly refraining from entering the working area means i have a clean and tidy kitchen back and god help them if they trash it again cos i have opinions and i will happily loudly express them Wink Grin

Now i am feeling 100 and everything hurts i have a much earnt hot water bottle and some youtube waiting for me.

SingToTheSky · 19/09/2023 07:32

I think today’s mission would take me a month 😳 my room is the worst in the house, it is the dumping ground and now also my office 😬

📞LOL
📞made phone call
📞work
📞home ed stuff
📞had a quick look at new module website and posted on the forum
📞more work
📞emailed DS’ college because they’ve timetabled him differently to how they said they would
📞ordered Tesco
📞LOL into dryer

Searchingforsunnydays · 19/09/2023 07:40

My house is very slowly returning to organised chaos rather than just chaos 👏

Tada
✅ up, washed dressed
✅ beds made
✅ lunches made
✅ 8 mins on bedroom (will do the rest of the time after work)
✅ cooked the sausages ready for tea later

I'm currently having breakfast, going to s&s, fold any dry washing and take upstairs & breakfast pots before work and school runs (hopefully!).

MissDollyMix · 19/09/2023 13:42

Hey All! Thanks so much for all the helpful tips. I'm off to do some reading now I think. DH and I both work full time (DH very long hours), DC+ dogs. I love them all but it can feel rather overwhelming at times. I'm in the office today so not much progress around the house - though I did push the hoover round a bit before I left for work and I'm hoping to tackle the clean laundry mountain when I get back home this evening, once the DC are in bed! I'm enjoying reading all of your ta-das and it's making me re-think about how much I do that I don't really give myself credit for. I always wish I could do more. I'm contemplating taking a day off work just to get a start on sorting the house out.
Interesting also to read about experiences with PMDD. I'm so sorry to those who suffer, it sounds awful. I can definitely relate to some of those symptoms. I've been finding my periods quite disabling recently. My GP has put me on ADs which have helped me quite a bit but I appreciate they're not right for everyone.
@BloomingHazel so sorry about your fire! Looks very stressful. Hope you can get things fixed up soon.

derrydee · 19/09/2023 14:04

Our bedroom is also the worst room in the house @Searchingforsunnydays.

If woo asleep in front of the TV AGAIN last night, so tired! And so behind again.

Ta das today

✅ unpacked shopping
✅ dropped off some clothes recycling - bag had been sat on the floor in bedroom for weeks!

I will try to wrap some parcels up to send off when I'm picking up DC - definitely counts as decluttering as stuff is leaving the house!

BloomingHazel · 19/09/2023 14:40

We had some news yesterday - trusses may be able to be delivered to the house in 2-3 weeks! Eeek! I'll believe it when I see it, but that's much better news than end of November!
Shed should be taken down all the way today, not sure if anything else will get done today (or if that will even get done!)

I had no ta das yesterday, not surprising. But I was at work all day. I tried to take the Jeep through the car wash, but there was a long line.

To Dos:
☕️ LOLs, lots of LOLs
☕️ cook omelettes for lunch, they sound good
☕️ cook some hard boiled eggs (we have a lot of eggs to use up)
☕️ put casserole together for dinner tonight
☕️ get white chicken chili prepped, in a bag, to go in the slow cooker tomorrow (or Thursday). Chicken is in the freezer, so must defrost that
☕️ home bleugh

I'll try to fit a workout in there too, it's hard to plan anything when I don't know what other's plans are 🤷‍♀️
First I need to get dressed & ready for the day, before the restoration company shows up, whenever that may be!

MissDollyMix · 19/09/2023 19:24

Evening All!
So my ta-das today:
✅ hoovered bedroom and kitchen
✅ kids prep’d for school
✅ full day in the office (does this count?!)
✅ went for run at the gym and had a nice long shower (with their hot water 😊)
✅ picked up DD from her friend’s house
✅ made soup and garlic bread for everyone’s tea

So I don’t think that’s too bad all things considered. I’d really like to sort out the laundry before I go to bed (it’s currently optimistically placed on my bed!) and I’ll need to pick up DS from scouts but I can combine that with a dog walk so that kills two birds with one stone. Right now though I need to get the kitchen cleaned up (taking notes from the September bedtime routine and forcing myself to do this sooner rather than later in the evening when I’m tired!) Going to try to get DD to help me which will probably be more effort than actually just doing it myself but I’m on a mission to get my DC to help out more round the house!

MissDollyMix · 19/09/2023 19:25

@BloomingHazel great news about the trusses.

Searchingforsunnydays · 19/09/2023 20:06

Aww brilliant news @BloomingHazel !! So pleased for you and 🤞it all goes to plan !!

@MissDollyMix I put most things down in my tada list because then when I think I haven't done much , I can look and give myself some credit that actually, I've done lots to keep the house ticking over ! I think we can be too hard on ourselves at times ❤️ that's an amazing tada list today , happy that theADs are working well for you .

@derrydee our bedroom is the dump it room for when I don't know what to do with something 😂 so it'll take a long time to sort out !!

Tada

✅ dry washing folded , taken upstairs AND put away 😱
✅ breakfast pots
✅ s&s
✅ school run
✅ work (extra hours again this week)
✅ home school run
✅ tea cooked
✅ most tea pots (some dinners have been plated up for later on )
✅ dd2 ready for gymnastics
✅ ds ready for football
✅ dd2 taken to gymnastics
✅ food shop
✅ unpacked shopping
✅ clothes ironed and out for tomorrow

Back at gymnastics now until around 830, I will probably just do what needs to be done for tomorrow when I get home and get settled .

partypompoms · 19/09/2023 20:19

@BloomingHazel I think its incredible that you are still on good terms with your neighbour. People fall out over the slightest thing and yet here you are moving forward after something dreadful.

@MissDollyMix one of the options the gp offered me was a very low dose Prozac which which you take for only two weeks a month. They've found it's very good for PMDD. But I'm trying the pill for now.

✅ hula hooping
✅ made packed lunches
✅ morning routine
✅ made a massive chilli for a few nights
✅ ironing
✅ soft play with friend
✅ afternoon routine
✅ taken child to rainbows

Need to make a shopping list for tomorrow and evening routine. Soooo tired though as have been wide awake since 3am.

OP posts:
partypompoms · 19/09/2023 20:20

WEDNESDAY: FLIGHTPLAN www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60&d=1

✅ anti procrastination day
✅ busy the dust day in bedroom: all furniture and decorative items. Move items and dust underneath.

OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 19/09/2023 21:13

Interesting to hear about the Prozac Pompoms. The generally accepted stance on those types of meds is you have to take them daily for them to work. I don't believe that. I think it depends on circumstances and what exactly you want the meds to do

Good news re the trusses Hazel

My bedroom is also the dumping ground Sunny and Sing I've recently started to tackle it but realistically I've run out of room so won't be able to totally solve the issues without decluttering, which is hard when I don't actually want to get rid of anything that's there

Working definitely counts Dolly! Bringing money in is important to keeping the house ticking over just as much as cleaning it is. Ta-da lists are great for making you realise you've done more than you thought. Now I have them established, I tend to just put eg "morning routine" on mine (when I'm doing them, I'm busy decluttering at the moment) but when I initially created and listed out the morning routine it was 18 separate, if small, tasks. Keeping house is not as easy as people make it look

I found FlyLady's system good for getting over the feeling of being behind on everything Derry. I like the cyclical nature of it all. I find if I'm lacking time to finish a task I can make a mental note to start with that part when the task comes round again, so nothing ever gets left indefinitely

Wow that level of kitchen trashing would make me LMS too Hills, you did well getting it back under control in one day

I've spent the last couple of days just pottering around doing basics, faffing about and staying up too late. I need to stop procrastinating tomorrow and get something useful done

SingToTheSky · 19/09/2023 22:44

ta da
📷put dryer back on for a bit
📷put shopping away
📷work
📷home ed
📷booked dance classes for Cagletini
📷put several loads of clean laundry away
📷put Cagletini to bed
📷paired up lots of odd socks and decluttered some

I feel a lot more on track this week. Long day tomorrow but the morning will be nice as I can have a quiet morning with just DS and then have brunch with my colleague before work in the afternoon.

BloomingHazel · 20/09/2023 04:07

pompoms life is too short to hold grudges, especially if they live next door! He really feels bad for what happened, it was an accident. Plus he has a long road ahead to recover from his burns (and apparently will not be covered at all under his insurance to get them treated properly, so isn't going to a doctor about it anymore).

I have even better news re house - the shower is getting fitted tomorrow! it'll be done while both DH & I are at work, so we'll see how it goes.

I have always treated my bedroom as a sanctuary. I do not like things gathering in there, although there's a couple things I can think of that need to come out of there but mostly a couple of receipts. When my space is clear in my bedroom, I sleep well.

dolly if I have any ta das on a working day, I'll add that I worked. I have no time in the morning before I leave, and everyone is still asleep, and after being gone all day I only have the energy to cook dinner most nights sometimes not even enough energy for that the only thing I do consistently is get my lunch ready and clothes out for work the next day.
I do work x4 10hr shifts, but with lunch hour and travel time, I'm out of the house almost 12 hours the days I work.
You had a great ta da list!

BloomingHazel · 20/09/2023 04:26

Ta Das:
🌻 bed completely stripped (including mattress & pillow protectors)
🌻 LOLs x7, including sheets, protectors, towels and comforter (duvet without a removable cover)
🌻 pulled out frozen chicken to thaw
🌻 bleached both bathrooms
🌻 made a phone call, had to leave a msg
🌻 all clean clothes put away
🌻 handwashed dishes x2
🌻 rotated DW
🌻 cleaned plastic totes holding dog food (Dobby no longer has puppy food & is switched now)
🌻 washed dog bowls and tray they sit in
🌻 dead head my roses and cut some lavender to put on my bedside table in a vase
🌻 picked DS up from school
🌻 vacuumed main floor (DS did basement yesterday)
🌻 prepped dinner for tomorrow night ready to go in the slow cooker in the morning
🌻 cooked casserole for dinner tonight
🌻 got my lunch ready for tomorrow (leftovers)
🌻 wiped kitchen countertops & sink
🌻 got the slow cooker out ready for the morning
🌻 took DDs old car to storage (the phone call from this morning was to set it up as it's in our way!)
🌻 put dog kennels in Jeep ready for the morning, they'll stay at ILs during the day when work is going on when no one is home
🌻 swept outside, the neverending leaves are still neverending!

I just need to get my clothes out for tomorrow and take a shower (then my meds etc.). I'm tired 😴

BloomingHazel · 20/09/2023 04:28

Oh, we also had to clear our the bathroom - take the shower curtains down, bath tray moved to a different room, etc. When DH told me they were going to work on the bathroom tomorrow I told him that all I needed to do was clean the bathrooms, so I'm sure I'll need to do that again tomorrow 🙄
