Hi! Is anyone else looking for a tidying buddy? I think I would really appreciate some company while I work through unpacking and tidying away our house! We have just moved and its a terrible tip.... I am on my own with my DC and so its just me who has to get on with the tidying. Im not very well at the mo so a bit low in energy... so I think I need to give myself some boosting motivation. SOO... if you don't mind I will make a start and plod on. Anyone fancy joining me and we can cheer each other on?

@ImustLearn2Cook

Hi everyone. I’m glad this thread is still going.

To tick off some of my list from my last post:

Bake cake with dd because I promised I would when kitchen was clean. No I still have not done that Sad I did clean the kitchen though

Continue to sort clutter, shelves, desk. The shelves and desk are clean but I threw all the clutter into boxes and hid them in another room. I had people coming for afternoon tea and was taking too long to clean so this was the quickest way.

Vacuum lounge room. Yes

Christmas shopping and Christmas cards tomorrow. Yes

Well done Grin You have the rest of the Christmas holidays to bake a cake with your daughter :)

@duvetdayforeveryone Thankyou Smile

Peridot1 · 22/12/2021 12:24

Well all jobs from yesterday’s list got done. Except for the bathroom floors!

Today I had to go out this morning but did a bedding wash before I went and put a towel wash on. And emptied the dishwasher.

This afternoon I’ll do the downstairs loo and maybe quickly mop the hall floor.

Then I will make marzipan the cake and make mince pies. Well assemble mince pies really!

One bed left to change so may get that done today but if not it will get done tomorrow.

HereticFanjo · 22/12/2021 12:29

Marking place I have stuff to do too!

Lifeisnteasy · 22/12/2021 12:34

Me!

I’ve already cleaned the fridge out (main job for today) and tidied/cleaned the dining room ready for Xmas dinner

Left to do:
Clean kitchen surfaces
Sweep & mop kitchen floor
Clean the bathroom & loo

Trying pick myself up out of the covid inertia hole…

Life "Trying pick myself up out of the covid inertia hole…"

Me too. Also winter, gah, I should go for a walk...

Moomarre · 31/12/2021 09:30

Is anyone around today? I have quite a lot to do and am really tired and struggling to get started. Got 8 guests arriving later for nye.

Get breakfast stuff in dishwasher and turn on
Load of washing -done
Hang up washing-done
Strip dc1 bed and remake with fresh bedding for guests
Check dc2 room over ready for guests
Wash dc 1 bedding
Dry dc1 bedding
Take down airers so guests can actually get in their bedrooms (tumble dry whatever I can)
Empty dishwasher
Take out recycling and bin
Move extra mattress into dc4 room for guests
Make some form of bed in our room for dc4
General tidy round
Clean bathrooms
Hoover round
Take soft plastics to recycling bin in shop and buy a few items
No idea what else

NoSquirrels · 31/12/2021 09:35

I’ll spot you, Moomarre -and I hear you on the laundry!

I need to finish what I started yesterday (tidying the craft drawers of doom), hoover all round again and mop, as well as walk the dog, do more laundry, feed people etc.

Right now I’m drinking tea but will leap into action soon (ish) Brew

squeakyheart · 31/12/2021 09:37

I'll join as I need to sort the entire house out and I've sat on my phone for two hours! Will use this post as the motivation I need to crack on and will check in later.

MrsTidyHouse · 31/12/2021 10:06

I'm in! Need to get back to sorting and tidying each room so that we can hit the ground running when school goes back on Wednesday. Kitchen, utility, living-room are the priotity areas.

To do - beat, label, freeze eggs.
Freeze home-made soup.

Straighten out fridge-freezers

Put away dry laundry
Tumble-dry still daamp jerseys.

Watch decluttering programmes and knit.

squeakyheart · 31/12/2021 12:37

Well I got off the phone and made a start. However I've not made any progress other then tidying and sorting out my toddlers book shelves. I'm hoping I'm just in a it looks worse before it gets better phrase

NoSquirrels · 31/12/2021 14:15

Apart from doing more laundry and walking the dog I’ve done nothing else on the list, but other stuff instead - cleaning the front door (random), sorting recycling and washing out its bin etc.

I do need to do the craft drawers of doom.

squeakyheart · 31/12/2021 15:37

Still not looking any better but I'm trying 20mins work 10minutes rest. Might work better if I stopped cheating.

My mum always cleaned the front door and step for new year!

Moomarre · 31/12/2021 16:38

Oops I actually got stuck in and forgot to report back! Did most stuff on the list plus sorting out a bag for charity but forgot to buy onions so my fajitas might be a bit pepper heavy

MrsTidyHouse · 02/01/2022 05:41

Did everything on my list from Friday. Now embarking on a mad clean and hoover, as people are coming home from visiting their friends a day and a half sooner than previously expected.

MrsTidyHouse · 02/01/2022 06:31

Tidying was as follows

Spare bedding out of bedrooms and onto top of cupboard on landing,
where anyone who needs it can get it for themselves.

All school uniform into wardrobes ready for Wednesday.
All slightly tight polo shirts set aside for trying on and possible declutter. Unpacked and hung up next size up.

All clean but holey, stained clothes out of my wardrobe and into tub to grab for gardening or dirty jobs.
My overflow Clothes from cupboard to my wardrobe.

Advanced activities out of cupboard and ready for dark January February evenings.

Tesco and George delivery receipts out of kitchen and into office for filing. All online for months now.

Kept all the most recent trades magazines, all the rest in the recycling trolley.

petal2019 · 03/01/2022 00:33

Hi! @MrsTidyHouse and all who are here for the start of the year! I started this thread because I was trying to motivate myself to sort things out for a house move. I have now moved and been away for 2 weeks for xmas. I am now back and faced with a very small house and an awful lot of stuff that has to be put away.. it is so hard to know where to start!! All advice really appreciated!!
feel really overwhelmed...
and on top of that the boiler is broken!!

OP posts:
petal2019 · 03/01/2022 00:34

I think I am going to go to bed and have a go first thing. As well as call a plumber!!!

OP posts:
MrsTidyHouse · 03/01/2022 06:09

petal yes, boiler is your priority! Get warm and comfy while you straighten your new place out.

Do you have adequate storage for what's still in crates? Do you know where you want things to go? Can I suggest that you go easy on yourself, and set a time limit rather than have the pressure of thinking you must empty a crate? Apologies if you don't have the space for this.

This is a great thread for motivating me to put things where they belong. Thanks! Today is my final chance to tidy up in peace and quiet and without watching the clock. I'm going ruthlessly from room to room and from cupboard to cupboard. Even the tiniest item will be shifted. It was a shock yesterday to realise that the clothes I shifted from the hall cupboard to my bedroom had been there for two years, not just a few months. I have lots of blind spots.

petal2019 · 03/01/2022 09:12

Hi @MrsTidyHouse!
Yes, trying to get boiler sorted! And ...well Im not quite sure about adequate storage.... oh dear!
Well first things first... boiler!

Peridot1 · 03/01/2022 09:32

Morning all and Happy New Year!

Def get boiler sorted @petal2019. Sounds just what you didn’t need in a new house.

I’m back at it from today. Have had a pretty lazy week since Xmas although I did wash utility room floor yesterday.

Today’s plan :

Dishwasher and clean kitchen counters
Clean cooker
Vacuum
Walk dog
10 min workout
Put on a load of laundry
Do a towel wash
Take down Christmas tree in hall

This week I’m focussing on putting all the Christmas stuff away. Three trees to take down although one is small. And lots of stuff generally around every room downstairs.

MrsTidyHouse · 03/01/2022 18:51

Tired legs from up and down stairs and ladders. Well worth it, with just about everything where it should be. Now on to decluttering!

petal2019 · 27/01/2022 04:24

Well! Back again… been coping with visit from ex; new job ; niece staying. Now 2 dys free to get on top Post house move and tidying up. So 4.23 am…. Going to have a good go of tidying downstairs.. cross fingers for me. First up kitchen … wooden surface first part

OP posts:
petal2019 · 28/01/2022 03:33

SO, I managed finally yesterday to get my ground floor more or less tidy. I have the niece staying again today and it was really messy. However, I've come down this morning (3.15!!) to a tidy kitchen and tidy sitting room. I find that all I ever do is tidy and feel I need to tidy and clean. I never have any time to spend with my family or to do things Im interested in. However, I am going to change this. Im going to divide up the preparatory work I need to do so its all done in advance of the working week and Im going to get on top of all the advance cooking. Iim going to chisel out time to do the things Im interested in. Ok... so the big issue at the moment is Ive just moved and the house is still in chaos. The room to tack today is my bedroom. Currently piles of boxes and clothes. So.... cross your fingers for me. First of all go upstairs and I think try and put away all the empty suitcases in the cupboard and then also to put away all the under the bed storage boxes. (I just bought loads from Aldi). So suitcases.... see you in a minute.

OP posts:
petal2019 · 28/01/2022 04:22

SO suitcases at least up in cupboard... not quite away... now tackling the most enormous pile of clothes and sheets that are blocking my bedroom doorway and the top of the stairs. Partly from move, partly from washing. SO>>.. I am piling them up... trying to sort them out. Got some going into my underbed boxes ... summer clothes, scarves and shawls etc.... I will report back in when I have reached the end of the pile!
