Hi! Is anyone else looking for a tidying buddy? I think I would really appreciate some company while I work through unpacking and tidying away our house! We have just moved and its a terrible tip.... I am on my own with my DC and so its just me who has to get on with the tidying. Im not very well at the mo so a bit low in energy... so I think I need to give myself some boosting motivation. SOO... if you don't mind I will make a start and plod on. Anyone fancy joining me and we can cheer each other on?

Hi all.. Im really enjoying reading your posts. @LefttoherownDevizes...I really know what you mean about the perimenop. I am very distracted and unfocussed.... But just in process of trying to improve and chuck all remaining dross out in course of move in!

Thanks for being so affirming @Valeriane.Ha! I can completely relate to what you said about the work and office.

@Wond3rment AND @Peridot1

I will join you! We have the annoying combination of needing to give the house a good clean, while also trying to do bits of DIY / decorating. The to-do list is ever growing.

DH is having a bit of a lie in, although the dog has just gone up to poke him. I am going to make another coffee to kick start the day.

Both of us are in a bit of a funk at the moment and, although neither of us are very neat or tidy, a cleaner house will help clear our minds.

Valeriane · 11/12/2021 09:33

Really enjoy reading your replies theres something so comforting about seeing other people going about their everyday tasks.

I am temporarily bailing on you. I'm going for a nap Blush
Will be back later to continue I feel I've been quite productive already!

LefttoherownDevizes · 11/12/2021 09:41

@MrsTidyHouse so helpful reading your posts (albeit sad, it's not ALL laziness!).

Good news, done the three crates of paperwork/magazines, stopping to take DS out for his birthday and will pop into Wilkos to get decent paperwork storage.

I found the replacement birth certificate I applied for for my dad just need to find my grandpa's one and can apply for my Irish citizenship. Suspect it's in the pile on the shelf hidden by the picture that needs up on the wall behind the TV, Christmas tree blocking access .

So glad others are joining, it's so inspiring reading all your stories and plans

Weepingwillows12 · 11/12/2021 09:44

Good luck all. My plan today was tidying the house top to bottom including pre Christmas toy sort out (BIG job) but I also haven't done any exercise this week yet and really ought to do a couple of hours of work as I am behind. So far I have sat on my phone feeling overwhelmed on where to start and done nothing! Am not in the mood for any of it 😁

petal2019 · 11/12/2021 09:47

@Weepingwillows12. Hi! Good morning! I totally get where you are coming from. I should do what you fancy!!! If that is some exercise then go for it! Prioritising exercise is always legitimate I understand! But also in my experience just doing one small thing leads to rather a nice feeling... take my hob for instance!!! can go to the cafe now... almost.. but first the other blasted kitchen counter....

I think I will get up and go for a walk first of all as it's dark so early now and hopefully it will wake me up to get going on the rest

pictish · 11/12/2021 09:51

Window needs cleaned but have a printers block filled with small, beautiful, unusual things sitting in the sill. Lifting it out is an operation. So is taking everything out and putting it all back in again. Fuck sake.

Peridot1 · 11/12/2021 10:42

Having a breakfast break with a cup of tea and some toast.

Did supermarket shop.
One load of laundry in.
DH did dishwasher while I was out.

Next job is tidying and cleaning kitchen surfaces.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 11/12/2021 10:45

I have my music on the goggle dot, nice and loud and I’ve started on the corner with all the crap in it. Even if this is all
I get done today it’s a good strong start

I can definitely relate to the overwhelmed feeling. If there’s a lot on my to do list I get panicky and in a flap. Writing it down and working through methodically helps a lot. But with 4 kids and a messy partner I then walk into the kitchen and face new overwhelm because someone has left crumbs everywhere and nobody has put their stuff in the dishwasher and there’s a juice spill and the kids are fighting 🤯

TOMM does work for the cleaning side of things but I find in a busy household there is so much else to do on top of the 30 minutes of actual cleaning that you can still feel like you’re constantly chasing your tail. It does help knowing that underneath the crumbs and juice spills and dirty dishes the kitchen is basically clean though, likewise there might be cups and toys all over my living room but the room is clean underneath. You do have to stick at it though which is a bit annoying, it would be great if cleaning was a one off thing!

So far this morning I have (I love a retrospective list!)
Made beds
Emptied dishwasher
Cleared draining board
Made breakfast
Cleared up from breakfast
Put load of washing in
Taken dc3 for pcr test (annoyingly she was coughing all night so booked it at stupid o’clock this morning but she hasn’t coughed at all today)
Been to supermarket-dropped off soft plastics and water filters while there
Dropped cake into dps
Unpacked shopping
Tidied the mess dc1 and 4 made while I was out

I now need to
hang up first load of washing
Put second load in
Make lunch

Then
Get dc4 to nap
Wrap/sort more presents
Write Christmas cards

Wond3rment · 11/12/2021 12:15

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2021 14:33

(I love a retrospective list!) - me too! I like the “Ta da!” rather than “To do”.

I’ve cleaned some windows
hoovered inside the chair and sofa cushions (and promised to do them more frequently)
hoovered the rest of the living room
made the robot hoover tackle the disgusting study floor
sorted clean laundry (yet to put mine away, don’t put anyone else’s away)
hung out yet more towels, put on new load
ferried/assisted various children with various things/places

BUT
drains remain blocked (waiting for water board chap now)
decorations remain all over the dining table
and the dog won’t have a walk now because it’s windy/rainy/not to her precise liking and couldn’t have gone earlier when weather better as someone needed to be in for water board chap whilst other ferried children

Suppose I really will have to tackle the decorations now…

coronafiona · 11/12/2021 14:47

I was supposed to clean today. I'm actually eating popcorn and watching tv Blush

Peridot1 · 11/12/2021 15:04

Eating popcorn and watching tv sounds perfect!

Kitchen done here. Ready for DH to mess it all up cooking later.
Hall tree finished.

Two loads of washing done.
Downstairs cloakroom cleaned.
Some boxes taken upstairs.

Just sitting down with a glass of water.

Next job is more stuff to go upstairs.
Then tidy sitting area.
Remove sofa cushions etc and vacuum underneath etc.

Cleaned bathroom and kitchen before DH dragged himself out of bed. DH first words who is coming over lol

Fuuuuuckit · 11/12/2021 16:35

Another washing load
Tumble dryer load
Dishwasher
Vac kitchen/diner floor and mop
Stick bits on fb marketplace
Load car for charity shop run

Had surprise guests for lunch Hmm who've only just gone, did a mad 5 minute dash of the bathroom and we didn't go through to the lounge...

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2021 16:56

Put my washing away! Yay me.

And hung up another load and put another one in to wash.

Drain man cometh… then goeth (apparently to return… but that was a while ago…)

Still not done the decorations.

Moomarre · 11/12/2021 16:58

Well I still haven’t written the Christmas cards but I played game of life with dc3 instead which seemed more important. Now to cook dinner.
