Hi! Is anyone else looking for a tidying buddy? I think I would really appreciate some company while I work through unpacking and tidying away our house! We have just moved and its a terrible tip.... I am on my own with my DC and so its just me who has to get on with the tidying. Im not very well at the mo so a bit low in energy... so I think I need to give myself some boosting motivation. SOO... if you don't mind I will make a start and plod on. Anyone fancy joining me and we can cheer each other on?

After a very slow start, I actually got quite a lot done but still lots to go. Cleaned both bathrooms, did a couple of loads of laundry, booked the kids cubs for next year, deep cleaned the kids bedrooms with their help and got rid of a lot of stuff to make space for Christmas gifts, sorted the eldest clothes out to get rid of the too small stuff and gave my houseplants a trim. Still got to hoover the house and sort dinner and washing up. Been on the go since 11 ish so having a quick break.

I have managed to fit every single pair of shoes into storage creates (or in my wardrobe archive until the weather is warmer). This is unprecedented.

Cupboard under the stairs and food cupboards will have to wait until tomorrow but given how both tasks were so much bigger than anticipated am v pleased to have done as much as I have.

This thread is amazing

Good morning @MrsTidyHouse! Yes, Im back to it again! Im not really making very big in roads in my attempts to unpack and tidy away all our stuff after our move. I did make some progress with cleaning our kitchen which was good but Ive not managed to put anything away really apart from that. So, this morning Im going to start by returning said kitchen to its pristine condition and then I think go to the shed and try and start putting some of the things that ought to normally belong there, in the shed. So here goes... cup of tea and kitchen first off.

@MrsTidyHouse you really look like you are on top of things! that must be a good feeling!! Good for you! I hope the day goes really well and you manage the things you want to achieve. Mine are a bit open ended as you see... there is so much I feel I can only focus on one little corner in front of me... otherwise I will get too scared by it!

Yes!

  • do at least three loads of washing to bring it down to top of laundry basket
  • sort through books and get rid/archive some do can put piles of books that are just out on shelves
  • clear through two kitchen cupboards to a) note what we have so know what to buy for Christmas shop and b) so don't have bags and boxes of food in dining room
  • clear living room floor (it was DS birthday yesterday but still, pic attached Sad to try and spur me on

-hoover downstairs

  • clear final two creates of magazines/paperwork and devise system for managing new ones as they arrive in the house
  • plan my attack to fit in with wfh full time and kids breaking up from Tuesday, still a long way to go

I have got Church, hospital scan, choir practice (fully masked despite what the Govt say Hmm) and carol concert today though so may be somewhat optimistic in what I get done

Anyone know any good IG accounts for storage hacks/ideas?

This thread inspired me to clear the clutter that's been accumulating on the mantelpiece and sideboard today. All little fiddly things that the older DC have been hoarding. All either binned or put into their bags for removing to their bedrooms. Handily the baby now needs a nap so I'm retreating to bed with a cuppa!

Here are some decluttering/organising IGs that I like:

I’m not planning on much today. A bit tired after a late one last night with too much wine.

Today’s plan is to finish the clear up from last night. It’s not too bad as I got a full load into the dishwasher before bed.

Then I’ll do a wash of towels and tea towels etc.

My plan for the afternoon is to write the Christmas cards in front of a Christmas movie with a cup of tea and a warm mince pie and cream.

I’ll need to vacuum at some stage too - hairy lab means that’s needed constantly.

MrsTidyHouse · 12/12/2021 09:24

@petal2019

Well done on the kitchen! I think that's key to the rest of the day. The dishes are done, the fridge is ....okay..... and washing machines rattling madly with the last of the uniform.

Time for breakfast.

AnnieJ1985 · 12/12/2021 10:26

Yesterday was kinda successful, I am going to keep at it today too.

Moomarre · 12/12/2021 12:56

Another retrospective list from me

Beds made
Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
2 beds stripped
One load washed and hung up
2nd load on
4 loads folded and put away
Bins all collected from around the house and emptied into main bin ready to be put out
Fairy cakes baked with dc3and 4
Kitchen cleared and wiped, washing up done following cake baking
Teenagers bagged to sort their rooms out (multiple times)
Now about to watch the f1

Fuuuuuckit · 12/12/2021 14:46

Today I have done 3x loads of washing, 2 loads of drying, dishwasher on and emptied (shamelessly didn't clear the table after dinner yesterday), pulled the annoying nettles out of the garden near the path, and am on my last few bits of ironing.

Next I'm going to actually put the dry stuff away.

MrsTidyHouse · 12/12/2021 19:42

Newly washed clothes are on pulley.

Clean duvet cover and pillowcases on beds.

Clean pjs on sprogs.

But it's so hard to get the actual tidying done! Although I have to say that a lot of things that had wandered out of their usual place are now back where they belong. And a somewhat reorganised fridge. The shelves are very deep front-to-back, and I find that I have about seven dozen eggs, thanks to double-stacking the cartons and not writing sensible shopping lists. They're now in date order, so nothing should go off.

Anyway, I looked at a couple of adhd-related Housekeeping threads, and so many posts were like me.

ImustLearn2Cook · 13/12/2021 03:13

I’ve been watching this thread for 2 days and intended to join the house cleaning party. But then I got distracted and all I have done is put clean washing away and a load of dishes.

My house is a bit of a tip. So, I will commit to:

Put on a load of washing.
Mop the kitchen floor
Sort the pile of stuff on the kitchen table, throw stuff away or find somewhere to store them.
Reorganise shelves to make more storage space.
Clear desk and reorganise it.

That’s just to start with Smile

ImustLearn2Cook · 13/12/2021 03:59

Ok, so I’ve taken out the rubbish, disinfected the bin and loaded the dishwasher. Now I’m having a coffee break ☕️

MrsTidyHouse · 13/12/2021 05:30

That untidy understairs cupboard is totally bugging me, so I'm getting up right now and doing something about it before anyone else gets up.

This thread has worked wonders for my motivation!

Fleemeister · 13/12/2021 08:22

Hello, is it too late to join in? I'm starting my week with a Mon morning blitz and wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

I'm following my 2 hr crisis clean plan. First 2 items are gather all the clutter with a laundry basket and put them all in right places

Hedgepiggy · 13/12/2021 09:02

Can I join? I have this week to try and get the house sorted as I am increasing my work hours after Xmas and the dc break up for Xmas on Friday. I have thought about getting a cleaner but actually it's the clutter that is the issue. We have accumulated so much 'stuff' its insane. I want to focus on a room a day, so will attempt the kitchen today 😬

Fleemeister · 13/12/2021 09:24

Good luck @Hedgepiggy. I've done my clearing surfaces and putting away, wiped kitchen surfaces and table, and put a wash on. Next is sweeping kitchen floor and dry dusting main rooms.

Fleemeister · 13/12/2021 10:32

dusting done, and kitchen and bathrooms swept and mopped. Loos and vacuuming next but I've stopped for a cuppa first

Hedgepiggy · 13/12/2021 18:08

A productive day today, managed to clean the whole kitchen and fridge plus sorted out store cupboard. Even managed to do one drawer in dc room. Plan for tomorrow is finishing dd room as it's the smallest

petal2019 · 13/12/2021 21:58

Its fab there are so many people using this thread! I felt like I was the only one struggling so much. Nice to meet you all! Im not getting on too fast with mine... feel Im standing still on a spot now. However, before. go to bed Im going to clear the kitchen and try and tackle 4 crates. I have emptied my shed and repacked it... resulting in 4 crates of junk Im going to try and give away or chuck. So if I could clear that it would be a step forward!! So onward and upward!! Feel so much more positive today.
