Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

I think we're fixed
It would've been over in a jiffy if clot hadn't kept being swallowed.grrr.think seasonal allergies are messing with that feeling something you need to swallow,so you swallow hard subconsciously, plus probably causing damn bleed in first place!anemia obvs don't help as reduces clotting....
Anyways it's stopped,at least for now,and I've laid still a while to be certainGrin

Time to get going on the day
Need to find printer ink I bought 2weeks ago as ehcp landed in my inbox yesterday and my low storage on phone can't open it,so sent to dd2 computer and need to print(which gives me chance to scribble notes in margin)
Lil zoo didn't sleep well(visited at 230/330 still not had any rest)
DS had bad night fretting over change afoot
Have review with ED team for lil zoo later today

It maybe a long day here...

BUT the sun's shining, and on that basis I feel a nice walk or start the attack on the garden may be necessary.but sun on the skin is always lifting

SingToTheSky · 15/04/2021 09:13

Morning! Apparently I keep forgetting about name changing so I may keep appearing in my LOD name (undercover officer, clearly!) but you can still call me Sing.

Although calling me Awkward would not be inaccurate 😜😳

Nice gentle morning here, Cagletini woke at 8ish. I’ve sent DH back to bed and we are watching Stick Man (to be followed, apparently, by The Snail and the Whale 🐌🐳)

I need to finish my presentation write up today too. Then think about slides. It’s just to support my narration really, it’s not like it’s a lecture or something with key points people need to remember, it’s just me telling our family’s “journey” (through autism diagnosis etc), but also it’s because I’d feel really awkward just speaking on screen for half an hour. They’ve suggested photos of the kids so I have a few in mind, plus a quote DD1 helpfully gave me last night when I was telling her about it. Possibly a few daft memes to illustrate points. Other than that I’m not really sure Confused this is the issue with having volunteered to go in the first week, but it’s preferable to having a longer wait I think. Anyway, ideas welcomed!

Ships Happy Birthday to DD🎂🌈🐰🦆 it’s our Anniversary today.

Hazel that is great news. I was wondering how it was going last night.

Dancing I have her books. I think she is amazing and they live in a beautiful remote part of Yorkshire. We have been very near it as we saw the signs on the way home once. We know Reeth which is a nearby village to them. It is a lovely little village.
Zoo hope nose bleed stops.
Dancing 🤞🏻It goes well and you get it.
Waders Will put it on my to do list. Thanks.

Forgotten who else said what now. I daren’t scroll back a page.

Plan
Bathroom shelves. Bathroom is looking sparkling so worth all the scrubbing with a toothbrush in the awkward bits.

Hall is done bar removing a box and a pile of horse books. They fitted but then I swapped them for the very old books. I might have to put them on the highest shelf which has a little room. I am pleased to have it finished.
Ironing pile, put it away.

We might go out for a drive as it is a lovely day. Have fun everyone. Put some music on or radio.

Redsquirrel5 · 15/04/2021 09:20

Crossed post...now I want crumpets😭

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/04/2021 09:21

zoo we were told to apply ice to the nose and tilt head back not down. Fuck knows why though. Apparently i have blocked it out. But it might be worth a quick check on NHS current advice on nose bleed treatment as it does change.

To day's to do list is the same as yesterdays but with everything that needed to get done today added on.

Blimey is it head back again now? I get lost sometimes. I do remember having an insanely heavy nosebleed in hospital once and the nurse literally forcing my head back even though I was swallowing blood Hmm it was definitely meant to be head forward at that point, it’s amazing how things keep changing, like weaning and safe sleep advice etc! Thankfully when DS has a nosebleed these days they’re not too bad and over fairly quickly. We were worried at one point years back when they were frequent.

Waders good luck with the assessment and the drive! I’d love to hear more about the assessment and any advice they give at some point please, if not too much trouble. I could show you what we have too. It was a really useful part of the Caglets’ assessments at Bibic. I’d always known DS has really good visual perception, but interestingly on the sensory processing disorder assessment he scored highly for all symptom groups except visual. It’s fascinating how it all links up. And then DD1 turned out to have a severe deficit in visual processing. I’d known it wasn’t her strong point but I’d honestly had no idea it was bad enough to count as a learning disability in itself. It suddenly became clear why trying to educate them both in the same way (she wasn’t back to school at this point) wasn’t working 🤦🏽‍♀️

It is no wonder she struggles so much with maths really - as well as likely having dyscalculia she can’t even copy a question correctly because it gets so mixed up. Gah. Poor kid. If she gets through GCSE first time it will be a miracle honestly :(

Links for Thursday

flightplan is here, no sorry, that't the launchpad, this is the flight plan

Today's mission is to toss old cosmetics and perfume - I did this at the weekend Star Grin

Yesterday's mission which I forgot to post was to wash fabrics from the bathroom, bathmat, shower curtain whatever.

Thursday is Errand Day - maybe pop to the shops if you haven't already this week. I haven't been into town since Friday, when it was nice to see lots of shopkeepers setting up new window displays etc.

Dancing - I understand about the job, I hadn't twigged about the paycut DH has taken, that must have put a lot of pressure on you all. What I meant to say was don't take it too badly if this one doesn't work out, while wishing you good luck at the same time IYSWIM. I've had my heart set on a job in the past and been upset not to get it, but with hindsight it wouldn't have been right.

SingToTheSky · 15/04/2021 10:23

What ED said! Give it a go, and if nothing else it’ll have given you a chance to tidy up your CV etc.

I know it’s daunting isn’t it. Much as I’m enjoying my courses etc the thought of actually starting to apply for paid work - let alone actually walking into a new office or something - just feels too much ATM even though I really want to be out of the house working and earning again (and have a reason to be ME, not mum).

I actually just had a call from my new work coach, from an initiative helping people with disabilities find work. She’s very nice and she also realised I qualify for the longer term, more wide reaching help, because I’m also a carer due to the Caglets’ SN and DH’s health. So that’s great. :)

Still not actually talking about applying for work yet. Which in one way due to the above is a relief. But also I kind of feel like I just want to get on with it and face the fear. It’s probably for the best to hold off a bit especially as I’ll be in a much better position to find a job if I get this other voluntary receptionist role at the CAB. Need to fill in the form today!

Dancingtomusic · 15/04/2021 11:17

Sing- honestly I need a few more months of being a mum at home to get the last bits of my house decluttered and organised to be a working mum - p.s i dont know how you guys do it- yesterday went abit wonky.

Ed- thats no problem you werent to know, I ment to write, here where I live there are 100s of people with better Maths and ICT skills than me. 3yrs ago, My sis went for a support teacher role in a primary school- after leaving her teaching job- 60 applicants and she didnt get it. Now i be it will be 100s to compete with.
My silblings and I all had to leave here and get jobs all around the country as we just couldnt compete with the people here.

So I dont mind if I dont get it, as its not meant to be. Plus I am very scared of meeting Dh managers as they seem to be hard nosed...dont know if I am ready for this...but got to do it for this home.

We both come from very low income families and trying to pay the mortgage and bills. With me out of work due to my breakdown and then being very ill after my miracle babies. Its been so tough.
Staying positive- whatever happens- happens.

Dancingtomusic · 15/04/2021 11:18

Thanks for your kind words everyone.

Dancingtomusic · 15/04/2021 11:36

Red-
🥂🥂🍹🍾Happy Anniversary🍾🍹🥂🥂

I watched the programs of the Yorkshire sheperdess- I wish I had her physical strength. I love her free range kids. What are the books like?

Zoo- glad your nose bleed has stopped.

Update on my terrible eyes from yesterday- 3 nights of night blindness problems- worried.

  • Docs no appt.
-rang lovely local opticians- no appts
  • put me thro to Cues- covid eye emergency triage- lovely lady got me a emergency appt in town.
-in opticians in town- got emergency check- she was so concerned she did extras- she asked if have been under alot of stress- yes- I told her my car, money worries and this job application- she did eye test- weak eye needs glasses- 3D scan of my eye too. Optometrist was wonderful and super she went above and beyond the Cues request. The shop was soo busy.

Yesterday I experienced a wonderful network of people that pulled together to get a person seen as soon as possible. God bless these beautiful, kind people.

Outcome-
My night blindness/day vision problems are stress related. They are migranes and I need to get me Bp and sugars checked by the docs.

Right i had better crack on with my Cv.
I am so tempted to type- if you bloody well want to give the job- do- or piss off.
Cant write that can I? 😆

SingToTheSky · 15/04/2021 11:38

That’s really ok too dancing if you don’t feel ready and would rather be home. You’re amazing for trying this 💐 it’s so hard having the health issues to worry about as well and I sooo relate to wanting more time to get the house in order 😭

Whatever happens we are here for you 💖

Just had some excellent news that my PIP has been renewed. And in other good news, thanks to sorting the paperwork the other week I was able to put the letter straight into the right pocket in the folder!!! :o That deserves a flying star right?

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/04/2021 11:45

singStar.I just have a huge stack of letters I need to do something with

Zoo dont worry about the spellings...i know what you meant. I might ask you more on migraines in a bit. Currently in a tiny park with the kids....its cold but they really wanted to go.

Sing you do deserve a Star for the ppi and filing the paper!

EventuallyDistracted · 15/04/2021 15:25

Aww Dancing - so glad you were able to be seen by the opticians and are getting the right help now. As for the CV, deep breaths, you can do it.

OP posts:
Redsquirrel5 · 15/04/2021 19:24

Great about appDancing might be high BP as I had them after jab after two weeks of headaches but not migraine he said BP high. Have to take it every night again. Hope it sorts. Feverfew supposed to be good but doesn’t mix well with some meds. I haven’t had that. Lavender on brow can help. I definitely get stress related ones and used to get pre men.ones.

So
I haven’t done the bathroom but I did have a shower in lovely clean bathroom and rinsed tray and used squeegeeing to take water off shower doors.
Made bed.
Had croissant and coffee in Summerhouse this morning. Beautiful day so DH and I went to unusual garden centre where a lot is planted as garden. Not too far from here and we had lunch at the lovely, lovely cafe. You sit outside over looking the pond from the balcony. DH had a handmade pizza and I had linguine with courgette ribbons, asparagus and spinach in a lemon oil and some feta or goats cheese. I asked for feta but I think she forgot and it was very mild and creamy instead of very goaty which I can’t stand. I can usually digest this so here’s hoping. I had dark chocolate and hazelnut tart. It was gorgeous. DH had an Italian one with almonds and custard but the French type custard like an icing on top. I bought two plants + 1 well I had to didn’t I. I was looking at the clematis and there was a Happy Anniversary one. So I bought that and two hellebores one for friend and 🤫 one for me because it was so lovely. Hardly anyone was there so it was great. It is over several acres so spaced out nicely.
