Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Ha, that’s tickled me Sing. She’s such a little character.

Hills sorry the day went to shit 🍒 🍒.

I was told it was fine to have a bath after my EMCS as soon as I felt I could get in and out That. Maybe after about 2 weeks? I really didn’t find the recovery bad at all for mine. The pain was never too bad, more like an annoying ache that slowed my movements - like when you’ve overdone it at the gym not that I’ve done that regularly . Sore, but manageable. I also struggled to look at my scar until it was well healed but it doesn’t bother me at all now. If you do end up going down that route though I must warn you about the wind Blush Grin

Happy birthday to DD2 Zoo, hope she’s enjoyed her day.

Tidy you’ve done so much decluttering! You’re a woman on a mission!

Hurrah for fixed heating Waders.

Good luck with the job if you decide it’s right for you Dancing.

Aaand the rest of my personals have fallen out of my brain so 👋 to ED, Hope, Mc, Red, Ships, Ice, Foxes, Merry and Double if you’re still about. Hope you are surviving your shifts.

I’ve had a trying couple of days at work but nothing a day off won’t fix. House is still standing, we still have clean clothes and DH has kept us fed. So all good here.

StillUpholding · 13/04/2021 20:43

. Seems to still be room for MrWaders if required.

Dancingtomusic · 13/04/2021 21:09

Up- hiya up! Sorry to hear you have had a trying few days at work. Sending you 🍷🍫 and a foot spa to soak your feet in.

Sing- sending you hot water bottles and cosy blankets and paracetamols if needed.
Aww your Dd is cute!

Please could borrow the shovel.
'D'h has just text me. I need to get cv and application in my tomorrow or I miss out on the job. I am staying very calm.

🤦‍♀️

If my eye was ok i would stay up and do it now. I am going to cobble something together tomorrow.
Ffs.

Redsquirrel5 · 13/04/2021 21:40

Well that didn’t pan out like I expected.

So bookcase finished. I rearranged some I had already cleaned and put on shelves. I had left over some precious beautifully bound old books. Dad’s and Aunt’s books. So I swapped all my horse books and put them on instead and they fitted perfectly. So have a pile of horse books left over to find a home for. I am happy with how it looks.

Bathroom - cleaned shower tray, shower hose( yuk) used an old tooth brush. Also the edge of shower tray. Took ages but will never be as clean! Looking for mop head DH has lost the flat mop bit.

DH had a missed phone call so when checked we needed to go to DS2’s house as the b’day present from last year had arrived. We have put it in correct place. It looks great. Long box then trellis (shaped) above.
When we came home it was warm so we potted the plants presents and some seedlings I got through the village website. What a great idea put excess seedlings on and people say ‘ Yes please.’ DH obeyed orders, brought tea then later gin what is not to like? Neighbour was impressed and said I was spoilt. Not usually but for a two hour window yep I can go with that!

Quick vacuum around sitting room and stairs. Sea Bass and new pots and cabbage.

DS1 Very Emergency Caesarean 7lb 7oz at birth SCUBA not seen until 6 days old out of ScUBA day 8 for feed. Stitch nicked. Day 10 for bath. In hospital 3 weeks plus a week before. Bath before left then told two baths per day as infection. Infection for four months. Now have a Classical Scar. Consultant here said ‘ What a bloody mess.’ I was only 20 and was quite depressed and very sore and baby didn’t know what sleep was! Scar is from belly button to almost fanny. However baby and I both survived which is the main thing even though they failed to tell me due to gross incompetence( thank god for houseman that arrived back after 24 hrs off) that baby was quite possibly / very probably brain damaged. Apgar score 0,2, 4 after resuscitation.

Nearly didn’t have any more children but surprise pregnancy then early miscarriage. Pregnancy with DS2 much better apart from disagreement about CS against atrial birth. Told I would never deliver normally as I had a small pelvis. I insisted on change of Consultant. I thought anyone who was called GOD by their nursing team and also didn’t expect mothers to have( or be allowed ) an opinion wasn’t who I wanted. DS 2 9lb 3 1/2 oz delivered normally bar episiotomy ( which I would have begged for had they left it any longer) and transferred to local hotel( hospital) next day at my request. If baby was feeding they left your food in the hostess trolley not congealing on the plate. Hot chocolate in the evening and during the night Horlicks made for you by the nurse on duty if baby woke for a feed to help get you back off to sleep. Roast dinner as good as my dad’s. My friend stayed for a fortnight which you could do then as once home no help from her DH who was usually in the pub.
DS 3 normally delivery. In labour three weeks earlier which stopped. 4 cm dilated. Home to mum’s then home after a week. Tried everything. Born just as DH walked in the door. Just gas and air and by far the easiest. 6 lb 5 Oz. Placenta failing. Should have been delivered earlier according to Midwife delivering. Most gorgeous baby.
DD I was at college. Difficulties in pregnancy ( amniocentesis) result not until 25 weeks and discovered guidelines bent if you require a termination. I was shocked. Nurse horrible when I said I would take whatever God gave us. DH behaved abominably throughout but some kindness when I was in pain.
DD delivered after 16 hour labour and very high BP. Rural midwife sent me in three times. Near retirement and wonderful Scottish Midwife... what the bloody hell are they thinking! Sorry shouldn’t have said that. Mae...I loved her and she called in after delivery because she was passing. Bless her.
Difficult delivery and Domino 6Hrs turned into five days. I was quite poorly baby fine bouncing 8lb 1oz with no hair. All my boys had hair like proper hair!

Main thing is mum and baby are ok.
No birthing pools. Mum told to stay in bed for baby 1 & 2 so glad things have changed. I really wanted to move about. DD I wanted instinctively to go on all fours but they wouldn’t let me due to drip etc for high BP. The hospital she was born in is now the University that I went to for a year. All the mums were saying I had x in here. It had just changed.

Strange how much things changed. I was a Nursery Nurse student when I had DD and felt more informed. I even questioned the Consultant on his very quick examination and the possibility of Spina Bifida( a possibility) he poo pooed her dimple at the base of her spine. It is in the Paediatric bible which we were studying that it was a mark of very mild SB. I have one like a thumb mark and DS2 had one. My sister has Scoliosis double curvature so obviously an inherited gene. I felt so cross but my lovely women GP kept checking her. She was so supportive especially when DH was being an arse.

Redsquirrel5 · 13/04/2021 21:55

Sorry that was way too long.

Passes Dancing a shovel with a nice sharp end.

Waders you were talking about India a little while ago so I am presuming Myanmar would be a possibility? Do you have the ability to find people who were British subjects / passports but born there. I know someone who needs to prove their parent was a British citizen and any paperwork/ passport to prove that have gone. So may well be interested in becoming a client. Birth place known. Education known but may have a short gap. Difficulties with a half sibling to parent so this may be the way to go.

DH going walking tomorrow yeah I can plan my day without changes or interruptions.plan to finish bathroom and do bit of dining room.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒🍒👋🍒👋👋🍒👋🍒🍒👋👋to all.

Evening all,

Well, turned out to be a busy day at work, got home at 5.30 and had to be out again at 6.30 to take DS to football, it's great that the sports are all back on again now, DD was also back to swimming tonight, she moved up a squad just before lockdown and looks happy but absolutely shattered this evening. I've also spent an hour with DS this evening going over a past paper for an exam next week, interesting stuff but quite hard.

So, not much Flying, but tomorrow is another day.

Zoo - Happy Birthday to DD2

Waders - welcome back, glad you finally have warmth

That - you have prompted lots of interesting birth stories!

Red - glad DH was in your good books today, sounds like a nice day all round.

Dancing - I hope you don't mind me saying, but it sounds as though this job may not be the best fit for your skills and experience, plus you are having to rush the application, I'd say by all means give it a try, but if it doesn't work out then it wasn't meant to be, rather than being through any lack of preparedness on your part.

Hills - sounds like you have had a tough start to the week, hoping things take a turn for the better soon.

I am so tired, think I'm going to have to call it a night now, sleep tight everyone.

Redsquirrel5 · 14/04/2021 00:09

Waders I just lost the post iPad was out of charge damn will give you some details tomorrow. Have the birth place in Myanmar. Have a birth certificate I think.

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/04/2021 08:00

up I'd forgotten the wind!I had such sharp chest pain despite being given mint tea I had an emergency chest x-ray same day as c sect for fear id got a clot.nope, just a lot of gas which took a couple of days to expel!!!
Red dd1 and I both have a tiny indent at base of spine.she had to have extra checks before we left hospital.i have to say your food experience was way better than mine in there!(by time had D's I was proving all own food iced buns are a good group, right? and was keen to go home and eat hot stuff)
Stiff and struggling this morning
Hoping will improve once I get in the swing of the day!

StillUpholding · 14/04/2021 08:28

Thankfully mine was never massively painful Zoo, just a bit of shoulder tip pain but it took a good week of regular “clearing” Grin

Lovely hearing about your births Red. There is a lovely little maternity unit near me that sounds very similar, also with legendary Sunday roasts. I wasn’t eligible to give birth there unfortunately (first baby) - probably for the best as after a problem free pregnancy I ended up with sudden stupidly high BP, failed induction and EMCS. I actually remember it all as a good calm birth though. Possibly the gas and air and being completely out of it with sleep deprivation - I didn’t sleep more than a couple of hours or so from being sent straight through to hospital on the afternoon of day 1 to after delivery in the early hours of day 4. They are much better with scars these days apparently. Mine is hardly visible other than the overhang when I’ve got too much weight on. Massive difference between mine and a friend’s from 10 years before. Sounds like a nice day yesterday with tea and well deserved gin.

Dancing I agree with ED - definitely worth a try if you feel it’s what you’re after, but don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t happen this time at such short notice and under pressure. If it’s meant to be it’ll be (and always good practice applying etc). Good luck! And thanks for the foot spa etc, much needed Smile

Ta Das:
✅ read too many Mr Men books through bleary eyes too early this morning
✅ scambled eggs on toast made
✅ DW emptied and breakfast things in
✅ last nights LOL hung up and another one in (can see bottom of the basket!)
✅ DD’s bed made

Today I need to go to the supermarket and do a bit of zone cleaning. Also have a return to sort and some relatives to call.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/04/2021 08:52

to do everything that was one yesterday's to do list with exception of appointment ferrying and putting petrol in the car

Redsquirrel5 · 14/04/2021 09:45

Zoo so good she got extra checks the consultant pediatrician wasn’t even going to check the spine until I asked. His complete check was less than two minutes. I was disgusted as I knew what he was supposed to check due to my NNEB studies. DD became part of the course and was videoed and I was asked to take her in several times to show child development.
The cottage hospital in Scotland was amazing. I couldn’t deliver there but I could return as those days you stayed in for three or four days longer for first time mums. I asked to go back while I was being stitched -DS 2. The food was amazing there the large hospital was bacon and rubber fried egg swimming in congealed fat 🤮
Sorry about to much birth detail I blame the gin!
I am glad lots of things have improved.

DH has gone walking.

So I am going to

  1. Clean glass in front door.
  2. Sort coats
  3. Clean shower doors, wash floor. DH eventually found the mop head.
  1. Decluttering sitting room put things away in their right homes.
  2. Vacuum and dust.
3.bring in some logs.

That will do for now then potting /plant rest of plants. Repot new house plant. Make bug hotel. We have a village challenge.😄

Only 1h40m to go waders :o

I should really cut DS’ hair before he goes back to all his clubs. He did have taekwondo outside on Monday. And that’s just reminded me I got the tap invoice and can’t remember if I paid! Bugger.

Slow morning so far but I’m feeling a little more human. Really must get my vitamins sorted as my period has definitely been heavier this month and I stopped taking my ferroglobin a couple of months back. So that’s a good kick up the bum to actually take them again, and make sure DD1 takes her vitamin too (which has iron) as she’s prone to heavy periods as well.

Must put a wash on and then I really need to crack on with my course and also writing my presentation. And check a message from my work coach. And a million other things obv.

SingToTheSky · 14/04/2021 10:52

LOL name change fail. I’m in my Line of Duty alias for the chat threads at the moment :o

Redsquirrel5 · 14/04/2021 11:50

Waders oooh That sounds promising. I will check with the person and if she hasn’t got anywhere we will pay you to find it😁really would be worth it. Covid has actually stalled it.

Haha! I was just reading and re reading trying to figure out who you were.🤣

I had a friend here who had her baby in the car park! They went on route to drop 1,2,&3 off to parents. From setting off to getting there 45 mins labour, she was tall and very slim and just popped her babies out. First labour was 2 1\2 hrs! She went on to become a midwife. Sadly she died very young. She was a wonderful mum and friend her energy for doing stuff was 😳 to be admired.

Just had a coffee break.

Ta da
👍Cleaned glass in front and back doors.

👍Vacuumed hall downstairs and discovered a lot of dust under carpet at door so dealt with that lifting some of the carpet about a metre.

👍Reorganised all the coats on back of doors. Tidy ones in hall and gardening / chicken ones in kitchen.

👍Cleaned out two handbags on back of door.

👍Put vacuum on charge as just as I was doing between door and carpet it stopped. Had to use other one which is bigger and more suction so cleaner but I do love the D7 for quickness and the stairs.

Off to clean the shower doors now.

Redsquirrel5 · 14/04/2021 18:39

👍Cleaned shower doors.
👍Wash floor once I found the other bit. DH had taken it back out to bottom shed arrrgghh! I stalled washing it because the flat mop bit was missing. It is one of those spray mops. They aren’t that good. Not good enough for kitchen but I thought might be easier for bathroom as my wrist hurts when I wash by hand. Seems to be ok. Floor came up well and it just fits in airing cupboard. So wash the towel bit each time.
👍put away things in sitting room.
👍vacuumed floor

Need to dust.
DH arrived back early as it was packed with cars in the Lakes so he just walked one fell and needed to drive to another but gave up and came home. So he brought logs in.

HazelNuttyElf · 14/04/2021 19:47

zoo happy belated birthday to DD2 for yesterday, sorry I missed it!

Red you've been very busy, sounds like DH is being helpful too.

waders I hope you enjoy your haircut

We're making progress with our house move too, our appraisal is good, came back higher than we thought, but we capped how high we would go, which seems to have worked out in our favour. Appraisal and inspection on our house is next Monday. Things are moving along nicely!

Day off yesterday, not many ta das though:
🐞 Bedding washed 4 LOLs total
🐞 Dinner in slow cooker all day, white chicken chili, yum!
🐞 Gel nails done
🐞 Watched 2 movies on Netflix - Legally Blonde and K9. DC haven't seen K9 before, they loved it!

Lots of relaxing done yesterday, didn't have much motivation/ energy.
🍒👋 to everyone. Back to work I go (I'm on lunch break)

EventuallyDistracted · 14/04/2021 21:41

Evening all, I must apologise for not posting links this morning, got up, went to work and didn't make time. Hopefully you all managed without!

So, work, got a new project which is interesting but I need to do some background reading and boy is it complicated. So that kept me busy today, came home, bleached the bathroom grout (random chore), went for a run while DS was at hockey, then when he came home we popped to Sainsburys together for a few bits. It was a beautiful evening. Dinner eaten, just about to go and do more revision with DS, I will be as glad as him when this exam is over.

WFH tomorrow and we've got builders coming round to estimate for the kitchen refit which we still can''t agree on a layout for

Hazel - glad the house move is progressing nicely, it all seems much quicker than here.

Red - I've got the spina bifida dimple too, not sure if the DCs have or not, I don't think so. Haven't given it any thought for many years.

Waders - yay for haircut!

Sing - oops, I did work out it was you but it took me a minute or two Grin

Hills - hope you made some progress on the list

Up - I remember forcing myself to read Mr Men books over and over again.

Zoo - hope the stiffness improved and you got going with things again.

Dancing - hope you are ok re the job application, these things can go from zero to quite stressful very easily.

shipsandgiggles · 14/04/2021 23:19

Hiya ladies, I hope you’re all well. It’s been a really busy start to the week here. I haven’t done any flying really, I’m hoping to get back on track later. DD turns 2 in the morning, so we’re putting some ballons and banners up for her. We had a nice day after DH finished work we walked up to the pub by the canal and had dinner there. I’m exhausted now though.

Happy belated birthday to your DD zoo!!🎉

red it’s a beautiful piece! I love it.

waders I do feel quite smug DD has settled so fast😂. Sorry to hear about your awful headache!

Lovely to hear everyone’s birth stories, I completely agree that there is no correct way to have a baby. Whatever is best for mum and baby is all that matters!
I had DD in the bathroom of our old house, she came before the paramedics/midwives could come so DH delivered her. It was terrifying. DS was born on our boat, it was a planned home birth this time and didn’t have any pain relief. However, I was booked in for an elective c-section with DD because I was petrified of giving birth. Everyone was really surprised when I had a home birth with DS.

No flying to report. Sorry for lack of personals, I’m currently nursing DS and trying to sort out DD’s presents so can’t remember what anyone posted. Will catch up tomorrow

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 15/04/2021 00:37

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/04/2021 06:50

Morning
Currently sat trying stop a nose bleed.half hour in I've swallowed the damn clot twice.ffs

Big news of yesterday.covid vaccine number one is booked with dd1...having it Saturday evening
Nervous AF as I've developed health anxiety in lockdown and hate feeling "off" plus D's freaks of I'm not on form and constantly asks if I'm ok/feels the need to watch over me

Hoping I can stop leaning forward pinch my nose soon as fingers are killing me!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 15/04/2021 07:13

Hope it has stopped now zoo Flowers

It was really interesting reading all of your different birth experiences. Some of them made me feel very lucky indeed, seems i have gotten off lightly even with my longer births! No stitches, forceps, ventous etc. I have had a few dreams recently about having a super quick one this time, unassisted in most of them. Hopefully that won't come true!

Catching up on the thread

Brew and 🍞 for all

Dancingtomusic · 15/04/2021 07:50

zoo- has your nose bleed stopped now? Are you ok?

Dancingtomusic · 15/04/2021 07:59

That- I was watching a program with The Yorkshire Shepardess explaining her birth stories- the last one- i was 😯. Its so interesting that every birth story is different.

Ships- 🌈🍰🍰🍰🍰Happy birthday to your DD🍰🍰🍰🌈

Ed- Its true. Half of me know doesnt want to apply at all but we slightly desparate for the money. Dh took a huge wage cut when he was made redundant when my ds was 6months old. I have 2 versions of my CV going both need alot of work today.
Yesterday was hampered by my eye pains.

Sing- Jammies and work done is a achievement in my book!
