How often do you REALLY change your sheets?

I know people claim to do it religiously every week or more frequently, but how often do you really change your sheets? I've a super king size bed and it's a gymnastics activity trying to change the sheet and covers!

I change my sheets and pillowcases weekly. I also use a flat sheet between me and the duvet cover so that I don't need to wash and iron the duvet cover as often, plus a high thread count sheet feels nice.

chesterfuckingdraws · 16/03/2019 15:59

@rededucator yip, I've got it down to a fine art! If DH and I get divorced it will be because he tried to help change the bed!

I lay the duvet cover on the bed and have the duvet in the floor, grab a corner of the duvet and stuff it in to the respective corner of the cover and hold in place on the outside. Then repeat for the other side. Hold both corners in one hand and shake/pull the cover down over the duvet. Stuff the bottom duvet corners into place, button it all up and give everything a damn good shake! Literally takes me 30 seconds and no lumpy bits.

Anywhere between four times a night and every six weeks, depending on time of year, whether DS has eaten something in bed, whether there’s been An Incident eg vomiting bug etc etc

I cosleep with DS - so sometimes we have horrific bedding related incidents- but in the ordinary course of things, we both have a bath every night, neither of us is very sweaty sleepers, and tbh housework gets done last, after looking after DS, work work and having a glass of wine in the evening.

I take my hat off to you Chester, my sheets and cover get changed when my poor mum comes to visit as trying it solo I end up inside the cover with it twisted like challah bread!

So pleased to see more fortnightly answers here Grin

I moaned at DH the other day as it’s always me who initiates the change of sheets and it had been 2 weeks Blush. It hadn’t even crossed his mind Hmm

I would like to do it weekly but it just doesn’t happen.

MrsPnut · 16/03/2019 16:10

DH does it every weekend whilst I'm out playing taxi driver to DD2. I can't watch him do it though because I find his technique painful.

I can strip and remake our king sized bed in under 10 minutes - I used to time myself and try for a pb each week.

chesterfuckingdraws · 16/03/2019 16:11

@rededucator practice is key!
Apparently having the duvet inside out and just shaking it over is a good way to do it too.

My friend can't manage my way (says she's too short) so she stands on the bed doing the j side out method and lets gravity take over 😂

boomboom1234 · 16/03/2019 16:12

3-4 weeks

rededucator · 16/03/2019 16:13

I'll give that way a bang too! Thanks x

Every week, without fail. Kids beds weekly too.

It is not in any way hard to put a duvet cover on a super king duvet by yourself and honestly it sounds bloody ridiculous that a grown adult can't do that.

EEELA · 16/03/2019 16:21

Entirely depends on how much I sleep in them. Sometimes I stay with DP for a week, am away with work for a few days and visit my parents, so it can go almost a month between washes (but the bed will have hardly been slept in). Other times, I'll wash them, DP will come to visit and I'll wash them again when he leaves so only 3 days between washes. On average probably about 10 days?

It used to be every other Friday when it was just me 100% of the time. When DP and I move in together I think it will have to be weekly he is sweaty.

Mum2jenny · 16/03/2019 16:22

I can put a duvet cover on a superking duvet but it is an art. Many ppl do struggle, particularly if they have mobility issues.

Have a little sympathy for others theVonnTrappFamilySwingers

anniehm · 16/03/2019 16:25

Supposedly every fortnight but things slip!

Lungelady · 16/03/2019 16:27

Weekly.
Not my favourite job...super king duvet and bed is under the eaves.
I have a lady who irons it all.

QueenOfIce · 16/03/2019 16:29

Once a week usually but sometimes every 5 days, I'm peri so night sweats are a nightmare! Plus I love a clean bed!

DamonSalvatoresDinner · 16/03/2019 16:31

Weekly usually. It's easy because DH and I work together and it takes minutes.

Littlechocola · 16/03/2019 16:31

An inside out duvet cover and two hair bands are great for putting on a duvet.

EvaHarknessRose · 16/03/2019 16:33

Fortnightly but we have two single duvets and a coverlet. Bliss having your own duvet.

2cats2many · 16/03/2019 16:33

Every fortnight. Towels weekly or more frequently.

Ohyesiam · 16/03/2019 16:34

Chester, do you manage to put the duvet cover of a super king back on yourself? If so can you please teach me your wizardry? grin

I’m not Chester, but what I do is turn the duvet cover inside out, put my hands into the top two corners, grab the corresponding corners of the duvet and shake it down,
There’s a method called something like The Burrito Method, it’s on YouTube. Something to do with Mexican food.

Petalflowers · 16/03/2019 16:35

Fortnightly.

I’m amazed how many fortnighters there are here. Usually they are in the minority’s and get shouted down.

bumblingbovine49 · 16/03/2019 16:37

I used to change them about once every 4-6 week Blush then one of these threads made.me feel guilty so now I do it fortnightly but it is my least favourite household task.

I change DSs bed and the spare single bed sheets every week because they are single beds and very quick to do. My large king-size is another matter.

I use this roll up.method for the duvet cover which stops my arms aching and getting bunches/lumps of.duvet in the cover .

. If DS or DH is around I get help with the rolling. I always wash and store my duvet covers inside out so it is quicker when I come to change the.bed.
Graziass · 16/03/2019 16:38

One of my life's great pleasures is getting into a clean bed. I do it weekly but sometimes change the duvet cover mid week as well.

MeadowHay · 16/03/2019 16:39

I hate thinking about this cos the answer is...not often. Monthly if lucky...sometimes less over the winter months. Is that gross? Really should make more of an effort. I do DD's (9 months) gets a clean sleeping bag every week and clean sheets every fortnight. But hardly bother with ours.

chocolatelog · 16/03/2019 16:45

There's seven beds in this house so they get changed when I have the time or if there's not 15 loads already waiting to go in the machine 🙈
