Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Apologies for missing the links last night when I knew I was meant to do them, I forgot Blush. I am fine to do them if you wish SC, I felt terrible for ages after gastric flu so don't hesitate to ask.

Weather very up and down this morning but currently heavy rain with lightening!

Will catch up with the thread shortly.

Staringcoat · 10/11/2018 14:35

No worries at all Sass it was v good of you to do the ones you did. I hope I don't have to, but I may yet have to take you up on your kind offer. Felt ok this morning and started to do a few things, but suddenly felt really ill (hot and really weak and strange) again and have had to come back to bed this pm. So frustrating as I have loads to do! I'm not surprised you have bad memories of when you had gastric flu, as this virus is really horrid! Thanks for all the support though! Will see how I get on.

And trying to keep in mind Toostressy's wise words about never being behind with Flylady!!

Cripes I've your keen GrinGrin. Good luck with old/new job! And with academic study results! With four young 'uns it's a real achievement to hand it in on time!

Cag happy anniversary to you and your oh and hope you are ok X

Bower exciting about new stove!! Hope you enjoy it! To answer your question, DH had squits and nausea, I have nausea and the odd vom, DD has bad tum pain. Not a nice bug! It must be hard for you avoiding them when little ones are sent in poorly.

Foxes Star for mahoosive lists of chores achieved! And another one for not letting perfectionism get in the way of running! Star

Hills Zoo MsForestier Agree with general discussion about bolstering and boosting ourselves up against onslaught of adolescent angst. Can really get you down otherwise. We mothers definitely become the target for a variety of frustrations and causing an argument is a nifty teen strategy to avoid responsibility/deflect blame! Keep strong people!! We may not be perfect and we don't have endless reserves of patience sometimes, and that's ok, we are doing our best and hopefully the angry sprogs will come to see that later on! Grin

Feeble waves to everyone else! And sorry for tmi info and whinging on about unpleasant symptoms! Sorry for all the personal responses missed as well! Not feeling very sharp in mind or body ATM!

PS dare I ask? How far are all of you along with Chrimbo prep?

I don't even have a teen yet! Christmas is getting there. Need to get the German parcel off to Cologne. I relax when the parcels go abroad. Not coping up to that.

Staringcoat · 10/11/2018 17:01

Ooh love Cologne! Used to go by train fairly regularly! Love the Christmas market and it's great for tall clothes! Do you have family there FestiveForestiera? (Great new nn btw!) Afternoon/evening. Good to have you back sc . And you ive and well done on the studying.

Christmas - I've got three presents, ds a ride on motorbike as I saw one at a good price. Dd a unicorn toy as it was on sale a while back. And toy between them which I used a voucher for. We have a date in the diary for Christmas shopping without the dc in a few weeks time. And I've invited my parents over for Christmas lunch and had a look at the price list from the butchers. So, a start I suppose! I usually have a lot of shopping done by mid November but I was actually trying to do it later rather than earlier this year in an aim to scale back Christmas a bit, not being bah humbug just don't want to go mad or get stressed at all.

Anyway, my ta das:
Worked this morning
Been for run
Washing on
Washing folded and put away
Washing hung up
Dishwasher on
Wiped kitchen sides
Made scrambled eggs for lunch
Dh took the dc to visit friends and pick up a belated birthday present for ds
Tidied toys away
Tidied dd bedroom

Ds is having a very late nap as we are going to a party this evening so the dc will be late to bed. Need to get him up within about an hour and give them some dinner before we go. It's all very out of routine so not sure how the dc will be but they are very excited!

Hope you all enjoy your Saturday nights. The party is fancy dress and dh is going as a banana. It's rock and roll here I tell you Wink

Staringcoat · 10/11/2018 17:18

Another good list Foxes! Yes, we are trying to scale things back a bit Christmas-wise too now DD a bit older. Make it a bit more about doing than having. And re: environment etc. Need to keep to a budget too. Hope you and the DC enjoy their night out! Your dh's costume sounds very a-peeling Wink. (Sorry.)

Btw - not that it matters - but jockey's name below = Bryony Frost, not Gordon (who is a journalist). I shouldn't post when delirious!

Enjoy the party foxes!

Hmmmm, Christmas. Well, the Flylady holiday missions have not been started. I have bought one small present and seen one great card. Need to get on with DCs’ presents. Some plans for how we are spending Christmas have been made but others need finalising. Scaling it back is definitely a good idea. Must get with starting any some more Christmas planning though!

ta da
✅had shower and sorted hair
✅remembered to get something out to defrost for dinner
✅made it to London, somehow survived it, exhibition (Frida Kahlo and another one about video games) fantastic and enjoyed by Caglets but the travel was horrific, the museum was busier than I’d ever seen it, and Cagletini is definitely the wrong age for taking to London. Anxiety and paranoia and all the bad things are taking up ever more space in my head.
✅cooked dinner straight away when we eventually got home, and made a nice pudding

Caglets have dance workshops tomorrow then DD has her ballroom exam so I will need to entertain them all in town between the two. Had planned on harvester for salad bar lunch but DD also informed me that due to our recent clothes decluttering she has no dresses, and she needs one. Any dress will do but could do without the rush to primark (although will take the opportunity to get DS some more trousers too as he needs some). Town will likely be heaving and I’m not sure I can handle it.

Night all x

Bowerbird5 · 11/11/2018 08:24

Hi,

SC sounds grim in your house.
we usually build up a bit of immunity but come September when we haven't been in contact with the little darlings for 6 weeks we sometimes catch it. it is supposed to be a 48 hrs rule.

Lots of Ta Das on here I'm impressed. We haven't done much here.I spent Saturday morning when I usually clean doing planning for school and writing up notes I didn't get finished last week. took me nearly 4hrs.
Only have RE to do now then do the rest on Wednesday for Friday.

Our house is an absolute tip. I will attempt to tidy sitting room today and I still have that ironing to do. I still have no water downstairs except out side. Thinking I might buy a camping water thingy.

We had our first meal on new stove. I had heated croissants ( which I shouldn't be eating but craved for) and sausage rolls yesterday. Came in at 6pm and put some rolled lamb (no shanks left) rosemary, garlic, onions and carrots to brown then good goolup of good red wine and in the oven. Went to pub and came back two hours later I had popped back to throw some cooked new potatoes in it. Oh my goodness it was so, so good. DH cant wait to use it tonight. We have been invited out for lunch or i would be making Sunday Dinner. He is slightly jealous that I will be making delicious dinners in it while he is away. He goes Tuesday for three weeks. Most of the kitchen should be done by then.
Meanwhile i live in chaos.

Christmas...er no we have forgotten about that! We don't buy much actually. Give sons something each and the usual socks, boxers, shower gel sets from Boots. DD usually needs arty things but she is away abroad so will just put money in her account. We don't give to nieces and nephews because sisters both single parents and it made them feel they had to recipricate SP! even though we said they didn't so we were asked to stop. Usually give something when they reach 18. Might send niece 1 some money to take great nieces and nephews to film/contribute to panto. I have 13 altogether none on DH side.

Buy for bestie and a family present like a daft game. They like games after dinner. Mine all fall asleep because they work Christmas Eve late and sometimes Christmas Day but not this year Yeah!
Have a jigsaw for quiz friend of her favourite place in Cornwall.
We used to buy for church but now we do Secret santa so need to think of something.
Yep think I have only bought one so far oops. Last year we went to Country Living Fair and I did most of it there.

Bowerbird5 · 11/11/2018 08:29

Forgot to say amongst long ramble that we had plasterer in yesterday. So now plastered (more than once this week) and he did a fab job. Ceiling which was grotty patched job now skimmed and looking great. It is drying out quickly due to the Everhot which is on via extentsion leads.
Another reason for not flying yesterday. Also dust everywhere not worth doing as back 10 minutes after. I just have Everhot , fridge, dresser, washing machine which cant be used in kitchen.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/11/2018 09:04

❤️at new stove bower
Cag well done.tbh I couldn't cope London full stop .factor in a baby and all you asd stuff you're amazingStar(and don't forget it!!)
Tada
Fed cats
Littertray and bins
Wash on
Scrub half dining table
Scrub hob
Scrub one kitchen surface
Clean cupboard front
Hung up wash on airer
More in
Ironing pile
Wash in drier
More on

Staringcoat · 11/11/2018 09:25

Argh, plaster dust is a nightmare Bower it gets everywhere! Still, good to have it done and new stove sounds fab!!

I'm getting a bit panicky about presents now, have immediate family inc sil, nephews and nieces , large extended family including children of several cousins (we are close, only buy for DC though), 8 godchildren, country neighbours who have helped us hugely, 3 cleaners, 2 new babies and entire office to buy for (12 in total); argh.

Entire house a pit. Starting again with very small steps!

Ta da:
have put on two loads of washing; whoo hoo!
