Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 11:59

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Morning
Just checking in before I yank dd2 out of bed early for preschool shower as requested because she CBA last night after 3houra if homework/revision

Bowerbird5 · 09/11/2018 07:07

Hi.
Just popping in. Not doing anything so there😝flylady.
No kitchen , no electric downstairs, no water downstairs. Had lights, no telly , no internet. Can have a shower (upstairs)
Have loads of dust and I did use a snow shovel for behind the sink when removed. I found four new plugs, a small vase, glue pots x2 and sticks, mouse chewed paper, lots of thick spider webs and muck like you can’t imagine. The dresser which we had to leave in is covered in dust despite the cotton blanket on it. You can write your name in it.
Menu- just choosing off the pub menu. Might bring home fish and chips. Work is getting worse.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/11/2018 08:17

*with me seriously contemplating

Cagliostro · 09/11/2018 08:25

Oh zoo :( they’re only doing that because he’s a novelty and only gives them (and you) time and help when he feels like it

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/11/2018 08:53

Nah lil zoo is doing it for the same reason ds screamed at me about his maths book he couldn't find. Because it is easier than accepting they are at fault. Angry Ds has had very short shrift from me this morning. whether or not he is grounded will depend on his behaviour tonight!

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/11/2018 08:57

Go for a trip on your own for a bit if you feel you need it. Literally even if it is for just half an hour for a drink in a cafe. Some times they need to understand that you are a human too and it is not acceptible to treat a parent like crap. but it is a pain in the fucking ass and it is a phase and most teenagers will go through it at some point

Is lil zoo growing? ds has given me so much attitude this week it has been ridicious. But he has also grown a chunk and I know the two are associated and to not take it personally i still do a bit I am human

Hang in there Zoo and hope you are feeling better than you were.

SassitudeandSparkle · 09/11/2018 09:09

Happy big-0 anniversary Cag, Flowers

Flowers for you too zoo and hills, agree that we end up bearing the brunt as the easiest option a little too often. I hope everything calms down tonight.

I had the pants of positivity on yesterday but they have slipped a bit today. Trying to motivate myself to go shopping (20% off for cardholders at Dobbies for a few days) but would like to stay and work on the house really. Will put a load of washing on while I am out.

To-do
pay bills (2) online
empty dishwasher
put appointments on calendar/in diary
check store with 20% off

MsForestierinParis · 09/11/2018 10:10

Parenthood is never easy is it? I can see ds gravitating to dh more at times. I think he perceives me as a bit of a nag.

(he does love me really)

What a squally day here. I have guests on Sunday and need to bake on Saturday. Working from home now.

Laundry on.
Beds made.
Kitchen cleaned.
Need to get back to Electrician.
Swimming later today.
Need to exercise. Have no routine at all.

Wing flaps to all

Cagliostro · 09/11/2018 12:41

Aw thanks guys.

Still not caught up, feeling mega shit today. Trying to have a housework day but just feeling guilty about all the home ed we aren’t doing!

The Caglets had showers. DD is putting a wash on, I’ve moved the wet washing from yesterday as otherwise the baby would pull it down. They went to buy an airer. Have tidied up a tiny bit but it’s a drop in the ocean and it’s already lunchtime.

Feel really despondent :(

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/11/2018 13:11

Staringcoat · 09/11/2018 16:35

Hello all. Hope everyone ok. Feeling a tiny bit better although its one of those viruses - without going in to too much detail - where one wakes up dreading what the next new symptom will be. DH definitely had the worst of it and is still not right. DD has been left with intermittent stomach pains and me with intermittent nausea and general aches and pains. A thoroughly miserable week all in all as we're all a bit housebound and morose. And we've had to cancel our annual meet up with cousins (military) who are involved in remembrance events at Ypres this weekend.

Sass thanks so much for doing links. Very good of you Gin. I'm going to bed again now, so if you wouldn't mind doing links for one more night if that's ok, I'll take up the purple feather duster again tomorrow. Flowers. Huge thanks!

Haven't caught up with rest of thread but feeble wing flaps to all!

Dare not think of Flying. So behind now (sob).

sc that sounds horrible Flowers

Cag sorry you've had such a bad day Flowers

Zoo soup sounds good, I'm never sure about pea soup but I've never actually tried it. It's on my meal plan this week funnily enough, pea and ham though.

I've had a pretty productive day, we had toddler group then got stuff done while ds had a long nap. Then dd had a friend over who hasn't long left. Dc are in bed already though!!

Ta da
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Washing hung up
Washing folded and put away
Cleaned out toaster
Cleaned kitchen sides, cupboard doors, floor
Cleaned kitchen bin
Cleaned 🐈 mat
Sorted out secret santa with friends (well I've changed it to a charity donation instead, I don't need anymore stuff!!)
Cleaned cutlery drawer
Cleaned out bread bin
Cleaned fruit bowl
Did pizzas , alphabites and ice creams for the dc and friend

As you can see one side of my kitchen is now sparkling, the other side not so much!!

I'm working tomorrow and I must fit a run in as once again I didn't fit it in today.

Have a lovely Friday evening everyone

Bowerbird5 · 09/11/2018 19:46

Good list foxes. Congratulations Cags.
Hope you are feeling better zoo. Sometimes they get too much!

Well I still have no water in the kitchen. So it is out side tap down the garden or bathroom sink! Electric on downstairs except kitchen bar one socket for the fridge.
Van pulled up this morning I thought it was the plasterer early but no it was my stove😁 I couldn’t bring myself to leave until they had it in the house and took cover off.they had to leave it so the plasterer could get in to wall. It is gorgeous I can’t quite believe we have bought it.
It was lovely and warm when I walked in tonight.smells very new. Looking forward to slow cooking some lamb tomorrow.
Plastered coming tomorrow to skim ceiling as we have new lights. Spot lights. We had 2 fluorescent ones before. Feel so tired tonight.

Bowerbird5 · 09/11/2018 19:56

Oops missing some text. Left it in the middle of room.

Was it the squitters virus SC. I hate that. Some of our parents send kids in who have been vomiting or diarrhoea the night before.
Waves to everyone. Leaves 🍷🍫🍰🥧 in naughty corner

Cagliostro · 09/11/2018 23:44

ta da
✅got through the day

I want to leave it there but I did actually do some stuff so I am forcing myself to recognise/celebrate it
✅moved wet laundry (and half of it again at bedtime since it was hanging on the cotbed)
✅got DD to wash and hang out her laundry (the latter took a ridiculously long time)
✅got some random tidying done
✅made plans for tomorrow (complicated involving underground, different buggy etc)
✅messaged various people
✅booked dentist app
✅put together a “hair stuff” basket for downstairs bathroom to hopefully avoid endless panicked searches for hairbrush etc

May not be around much, struggling to keep up. But hoping to at least keep doing a list every day if nothing else as I think it would be bad for me if I didn’t. Sorry not being a friendly fledgling am just in rather a dark and scary place ATM. Phoning GP on Monday, promise x

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/11/2018 06:38

Make sure you do cag

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/11/2018 08:07

Morning all, sorry I dropped off the thread there. So sorry to hear people are struggling and have been unwell BrewBrewBrewBrew. As Flylady says nobody should be worried about being behind or trying to catch up, just jump in where you are.

In that spirit, I’m off for a shower to get the day started.

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 10/11/2018 08:24

Morning all

So sorry to see so many are not doing well CakeBrewFlowers for all

Submitted first uni assignment this week, not overly confident with that but its not worth a great deal of the over all mark anyway. I fell really behind with the reading and work, ended up submitting without reading the last chapter Blush I need to catch up and keep on top of this

Starting new/old job this week. Not really sure about this but the money is half decent so will give it a go.

House is a pig stye.
