Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

bower ds decided several years ago that FC was just a glorified peadophile. So peado claus, was the name of the song sung to the tune of jingle bells. But you can't argue with his logic.

I have a crap ton of stuff to do but I don't want to and we are already running late.

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/11/2018 08:07

Just don't as his opinions on elf on the shelf. It reflects badly on the adults not the elf.

Meet0nTheIedge · 07/11/2018 10:03

We had the opposite Hills, mine takes things at face value and really didn't work out FC / tooth fairy, we had to break it gently in the end but he found it hard to take.

Not caught up yet. Still ouchy but ABs don’t seem to be affecting me yet. Just kicked the Caglets out (late) to art club, DD wasn’t too keen - bad timing as she is upset about her friend leaving, and also most of the other friends who are normally at art won’t be there today as they are at the free film festival (Caglets didn’t want to as it was Peter Rabbit). They could’ve missed it as it’s a pay as you go class but I thought they’d hopefully enjoy it once there and it’d be distracting. I may have let DD have some of my Dr Pepper (rare to even have it in the house) in the hope it’d wake her up a bit. She was up late crying after saying goodbye to friend :(

Going to meet DH in a bit and get errands done

Thoughts turning to Christmas. I actually played carols yesterday. It's so dark here today. I'm like a troglodyte.

po I thought my dh was bad for taking everything I bake!! The whole loaf! Me and ds made ginger cake at toddler group this morning it's delicious.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/11/2018 14:14

I could make ginger cake,I've a nice recipe but I'd like to try it with added chunks crystallised ginger and I'm out of that.hmmm.might do a chocolate loaf.dp don't eat chocolate cakeGrin

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/11/2018 15:07

Opted for chocolate one😋just a simple chocolate loaf cake the girls can have it with some pineapple and plain yogurt for dessert..
Menu planning now I feel bit more like cooking again
Ironing piles glaring at me,so might be wise to slay that before girls get in(dd2 is walking lil zoo home again as I still burning down too quickly)
Absolutely bucketing down here so expecting soggy school girls(dd2 didn't wear a coat, just her blazer) freshly washed towels and pjs are on end of beds to attempt stem grumpy sodden tiradesGrin

foxessocks · 07/11/2018 15:21

I don't usually like ginger cake tbh but the one we made this morning was nice, not too much ginger. I probably wouldn't like it with crystallised ginger! Chocolate loaf on the other hand I would hoover up!

My parents have been round for a cuppa which was lovely as ds asleep so I got to actually speak to them properly! They've gone to collect dd from school which is a bonus as it's chucking it down!

My flapjacks have totally failed again. They've crumbled so much there are only a few pieces you can actually eat without a spoon! AngryConfused

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/11/2018 15:51

Serve it on yogurt for breakfast like granola?or layered with yoghurt/ice-cream and fruit for dessert?foxes
Lil zoo is huge ginger fiend so she likes it with ground and crystallised..dd2 likes it like that warm with ice cream or custard.ds would rather eat banana cake every day for forever (as long as he gets in quick before DP pinched it as his favourite too)

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/11/2018 17:00

Having a proud mum moment and I want to share it!!
Dd2 text me saying they would be late as an old man had fallen outside his flat as they'd passed and were go help him up n make sure he was ok
She rang me 10 mins later...her friend had asked them to help as she saw him fall and couldn't get him up by herself.with an adult who appeared they still couldn't get him steady on his feet and as his front door was open they got a chair out and sat him down and wrap him ina blanket and waited for paramedics.rhe lady had a Sen child and they amused him and chatted to the man til assistance arrived.theyve only been home 5mins and are frozen to the bone and it's dark now.lots came to have a look but drifted away as cold, get dark, raining etc
So proud of my girlsStarHalo

Cagliostro · 07/11/2018 17:19

Aah that’s heartwarming! 💖

foxessocks · 07/11/2018 17:26

zoo that's lovely, I always say to my dd that being kind is the most important thing. Your dc are obviously a credit to you.

Ta da

Dinner cooking - veggie pasta Bolognese

Funnily enough zoo dd actually did eat her flapjack with yogurt and she liked it! My dad didn't like it , too many seeds Grin my mum liked it (or maybe being polite!?) Ds seemed to like it he certainly ate enough of it.

MsForestierinParis · 07/11/2018 19:29

That's lovely zoo, kindness is so important

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/11/2018 19:51
