its a 9 in 1 steam mop and it is the most fun ive had cleaning in ages! my home is now hygienically steamed....no mean feat with dogs, cats, rats, kids....

its this one

its fab.
its got emulsion of window frames, the cupboard fronts were so easy it was a joy, the hob, the stainless steel splashback, the fridge, the floors, the tiles, the shower door.....all sparkling and done in seconds.

it was a cleaning revelation.
im now addicted to steaming stuff....including my thumb...which is dont recommend cos that hurts.

the reviews are not wrong on this one....
(morphy richards - commission please!)

I never sure about steam cleaners. I did buy quite a good one but I'm still not convinced they work any better or are quicker than me with a damp cloth and a bottle of spray. The fatal flaw in them seems to me that they don't suck up the dirt. Surely all they can ever do it just push it about?Confused

"The fatal flaw in them seems to me that they don't suck up the dirt. Surely all they can ever do it just push it about?"

I know, as another poster has asked up thread what actually happens with the dirt?

LIZS · 30/05/2014 14:27

but it liquidises the dirt so you can wipe it off easily.

Alicadabra · 30/05/2014 14:29

Ooh, this sounds so much better than my cheap and useless one which hasn't been used for about a year. Thanks for the tip Vicar!

PoppyAmex · 30/05/2014 16:09

If you're mopping, the dirt stays in the pad (which you then put in the washing machine), if you're using a handheld, you wipe the dirt off (that has been lifted by the steam).

Paq · 30/05/2014 16:31

Best thing about this steam cleaner:

DH saw me cleaning the shower with it today and promptly took over.

Result Grin

aliasjoey · 30/05/2014 16:41

So you still have to wipe the dirt away after you've steamed?

But it makes it easier and quicker to wipe right?

aliasjoey · 30/05/2014 16:42

Or the dirt goes onto the pad which is then washed?

KatoPotato · 30/05/2014 16:45

I knew you'd be talking about the love of my life! I have had this model for about 6months now and it is honestly a godsend!

I sweep up the bits first then whoosh around the kitchen and floor, I've used the hand hand to clean the oven and the patio doors come up a treat.

LIZS · 30/05/2014 16:56

exactly aliasjoey. Depends how dirty as I find on tiles and glass it just evaporates

PaulinesPen · 30/05/2014 18:53

'So you still have to wipe the dirt away after you've steamed' Yes! Exactly this..I don't get the hype all the time I have to wipe it away manually after the steaming. That's double the wiping in my book whichConfused

gorionine · 30/05/2014 19:35

I see what you mean Pauline but the advantage of the steam is that it definitely reaches areas that a cloth on its own will not get to., steam pushes grime out and you wipe. It also lowers the need for detergent whilst still being hygienic.

Suzannewithaplan · 30/05/2014 20:15

I spose that explains why carpets dont look any better, the steam loosens the dirt, but it just stays in the carpet

tinfoilhat · 30/05/2014 22:16

I picked mine up from Tesco yesterday!!
Did kitchen and hallway floors - very impressed, they 'felt ' a lot cleaner to walk on. But I miss the smell of a freshly washed floor! Can you add anything to the water? Was thinking of a little Zoflora, as someone suggested earlier.....

ThatVikRinA22 · 30/05/2014 22:18

ok....
if you use the attachments wih a cloth attachment on you dont have to wipe - so the floor cloth, the work top attachment has a cloth and there is a smaller attachment with a cloth - these do the job for you - you do not have to wipe the steam away with them. you can do worktops, cupboard fronts, cooker hobs, splashbacks etc and then just chuck the cloth attachment into the washer.

if you use the hand held bit with the other attachments without a cloth attached you may have to wipe too....so glass has a squeegee attachment - i use a microfibre cloth just so as not to get streaks.
if you use the attachments which just blast steam at things at high pressure (such as for taps, etc) you will need to wipe the excess water away with a cloth.
the little brush attachments loosen dirt, i just wipe with a cloth to remove it.
hope that helps - the steamer does the work for you - you just may need to wipe it away depending on which attachment you have chosen to use.

Mine arrived today!!! Along with a big bottle of this - tinfoilhat you can buy detergent that you can use in the steamer (such as the one I've bought - it was cheap and had good reviews) - I too want a 'clean' smell.

I am pleased with how well it has cleaned the kitchen floor, but haven't had time to do the bathroom yet. I'm away over the weekend but looking forward to trying it out on the shower grouting next week! It seems pretty robust, is easy to use and has lots of attachments which I hope will solve all of my domestic woes.

Horsemad · 30/05/2014 22:51

Emsy - please let me know how it works on the grout!

Thanks Smile

tinfoilhat · 30/05/2014 23:56

Oooh thank you emsyj !

gorionine · 31/05/2014 13:20

Received mine this morning. So far have done kitchen floor (fab) outside of all kitchen cupboard (fab) the hard to reach places along cooker (fab with a cloth to pick up the grime that comes out). i would advise you to start first with hard to reach places and then do the large surrounding areas otherwise it mucks up again what you have just cleaned [GRRR]Smile
I have tried the oven but found it hard as the steam actually stops me from seeing what I am doing.

For the carpet (just tried a bit of the entrance)I think it is more to sanitise if you have pets than actually clean it (or maybe I am doing it wrong).

DD is currently doing the bathroom with it, i am waiting foe her feed back.

Oh, personally, I did not find the hand held part to heavy.

Thanks Vicar, that was a great find!

aliasjoey · 31/05/2014 13:56

Thanks for explaining that vicar that all makes sense... I think our kitchen tiles would not cope with full steam (they have strips of glue between each tile) so am thinking about getting one with variable steam.

Melodygrace · 31/05/2014 15:35

I feel bad now! I'm sorry girls. I probably have weak arms. It was like trading heavy unscented steam than my usual nice smelling multipurpose cleaner and I still had to wipe just as much. Ill still use it tho when dp is around otherwise I might get told off as he warned me it was a waste of money and ill never use it. I can't have him being right Wink

whatsonyourplate · 31/05/2014 19:41

Well I think I must have a duff one as I haven't been too impressed at all. The steam seems quite feeble and isn't cleaning as well as I'd expected. Also I got back ache from cleaning our average sized bathroom floor. Think it might be going back.

gorionine · 31/05/2014 19:43

Melodygrace, it was a common complain on Amazon reviews so prefer to believe I am especially strong.Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 31/05/2014 19:56

My Vax one has turned up this afternoon and I've blasted the kitchen and the oven. Impressed.

I'm going to do the bathroom after BGT.

Can I do the black mould/slime on the washing machine door seal? Or will I melt the rubber.

whatsonyourplate · 31/05/2014 22:24

Most washing machines go up to 90+ C so I would have thought it should be fine. What model Vax did you get Viva?
