Evening everyone. No one went on the naughty step. Yay! Ds's behaviour was dreadful at times. He was fine to begin with but when the competitive games began he couldn't handle it.

Dh ended up playing a platform game with him on the wii to keep him settled. I am not really sure how strict I should be with him in these circumstances. I told him off, just as I would have told off dd at that age, but I have no idea if, for him, that was the right thing to do or not. Xmas Confused

At least, since it was just family, everyone knows we are a bit at sea and feeling our way a bit through this.

I hope everyone else has had a lovely day so far.

Dh and ds are still gaming and dd is watching Mr Poppers Penguins here beside me. We are all full up and a bit woozy with it all. Xmas Grin

I will reshine my sink, but not for a while...

Hello, I'm starting to feel quite tired now. I think I may have an earlyish night.

I have been quite creative today with my cooking. tonight for tea I made a Cheese, tomato and onion pastry tart thing (with my jusrol pastry).
Hasn't been the healthiest of menus but I feel like I at least had a go.
The washing up is almost done.

My DS sulks if he doesn't win at games. I don't know if it's just the age he is at (8). I hope he will grow out of it.

Not sure if I will shine my sink today but will try tomorrow. Xmas Wink

BlackCat that is my problem. I don't know what is just obnoxious 7 year old and what is due to his problems. Either way he has to learn to behave in a more socially acceptable manner though.

Well done on the new recipe. It sounds perfect for a sleepy day.

Maybe you could just aim to try one new recipe a week and you will soon widen your repertoire, if that is what you are aiming to do? That would be 52 new recipes this year so fairly impressive IMHO.

Does your ds like cooking? I cook a lot with dd. She is 10 now but has cooked with me for a while and teachers have commented on her abilities in the kitchen. Maybe your ds will enjoy making some stuff with you - it makes it a bit more fun and gives you a get out clause if it doesn't turn out so well.

He will also be more likely to eat it if he has made it.

I am pretty tired too. Thankfully it has all been worth it though.

I think he would like to help. He has only helped me with cakes so far as they seem to be more fun to do with all the mixing.

As for the DC behaviour it is hard isn't it like you say, to know what is acceptable for their age and what is not.

With DD we have the problem of her hitting. I just hope she isn't going to do it at nursery, I will be mortified!

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 01/01/2012 19:15

Ds once bit someone at nursery. The teacher said it was a bit of role play which he took a little too far. I was Blush Blush though. I am Blush just thinking about it. I have to say he has never done it again though. Sometimes making a mistake outside the home is horrid but a lesson learned as well.

I still hope she doesn't hit anyone at nursery though Xmas Grin

At least tomorrow we are allowed to do laundry. That should be on my To Do list along with washing up and de- Christmassing the house.

I know what you mean, I will miss the tree and the pretty lights but I also feel it might be nice to have some normality.

Right, I think I'm off to bed now, will catch up with y'all tomorrow.

Night all. Smile

I've been busy eating pizza, drinking wine & expressing I just got all that done & DD2 woke up

So I haven't finished shining any of my sinks (although my taps are very sparkly) or prepped up lunch in the slow cooker for tomorrow (DD1s swimming lessons start again tomorrow - on a bank holiday!?) and I'm not likely to do either tbh. Oh dear, I'm starting the year with good intentions but not much else! Oh well!

Tomorrow morning will be taken up by DD1s swimming lesson, then in the afternoon we plan to take down the decorations. I'm going to do as the FlyLady suggests & chuck some of the decorations I don't like (a few bits of knackered tinsel spring to mind) and also pack away any Xmas books (Spot & his bloddy annoying musical Xmas songs) and left over cards & crackers.

Right, time to attempt to transfer the sleeping baby from my lap into her bed now.

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 01/01/2012 22:48

We have boxes and boxes of Christmas stuff and only half of it went out this year. I intend to go through all of it and declutter it before I put it back in the loft this time and pack it in a better way for getting going next year eg advent stuff all in one box as it comes out first etc. That is the plan anyway.

I am not ready to get back to everything yet. We have only been on holiday a week!

I am ready for healthy food though. Tonight's treat was an orange. Yummy!

I did my kitchen & bathroom sinks. I really need to remember that things don't take as long as I think!

I've just asked DH if we can act like tomorrow is a normal day, i.e. get up early - he's not impressed!

Baby step - day 2 - dress to shoes

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 02/01/2012 08:54

Morning all, I am pretty tired today. DD had a bad night for some reason. I am wondering if she got cold cause she felt quite cold this morning. May have to put a warmer blanket on top of her quilt.

Anyway today I need to:

Breakfast
shower, get dressed
do some washing
put away dry washing
start sorting everything needed for School (Starts Wednesday)
Take down tree and decorations and cards etc.
Wash up /dry up.

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 02/01/2012 10:08

Morning all!

Dh has one more day off work after today so after that I am going to gradually wean myself into getting going a touch earlier.

It was great to get up to a clean sink this morning. I haven't lost all the habits so it will be interesting to see which ones have stuck and which haven't.

I got both dcs to sit down to a healthy breakfast this morning so that was a good start to the day.

I can also begin to tackle the laundry today as well after being banned yesterday.

We don't go back to school for a week - we only broke up the day before Christmas Eve.

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 02/01/2012 11:14

Have done:
breakfast
shower
get dressed
Both DC dressed and breakfast
made beds
one load of washing on

Have stopped for a Coffee break now. Xmas Smile

BlackCatLookingForwardToSpring · 02/01/2012 11:44

Carrots I am wondering if we can help the Flyers out by letting some of the "Newbies" know about our thread. They are so busy on their new thread.
Not saying they should abandon their thread and join ours as that is up to them.
But if we let them know that we are here and we can help with links etc it might help.

What do you think??

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 02/01/2012 11:46

I am still in my jammies.

I am helping dd with a sewing machine project. It is mostly good fun but following the instructions is making me feel like my head might explode. I USED to be quite intelligent but it seems to have left me long ago Hmm
