A warm welcome to the June Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If the state of your house is getting you down, this is the thread where we follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style Wink) with lots of chat and support along the way and where lace-up shoes are definitely optional.

A huge thank you to Linzer for keeping us all on track so splendidly during May and thank you to DroitwichMummy for the thread title.

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions

If you are feeling overwhelmed by clutter and mess, you can make a difference, one step at a time.

For more information, have a look here. You don't need to sign up to Flylady e-mails (we advise you not to do so in fact - you will be overwhelmed - all the information you need can be gleaned from this thread).

All long-standing members, intermittent returnees, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Ooo a vet! Lucky you cinders

Sympathy for all the poorly people (and poorly kids), esp PA's dd.

Envy ellie at Take That (my sis will be there with you).

Usual round of swimming and ballet today but managed to find a good as new pair of diesel jeans at Oxfam for £14 Shock. My friend tipped me off to this Oxfam shop it is in a desirable part of town and was chock full of high end gear (some still with price tags on!) Actually I had to be quite restrained so as not to blow my newly achieved budget!

Off to Hadrian's wall tomorrow.

swanriver · 11/06/2011 20:52

Scatty I think you need to be size 12 or under for the bargains Grin Well done on those lovely jeans.

Toffee hope you get a little nap in the car, have a wonderful holiday, and that you and dh get some nice dinners a deux.

Blue I'm afraid the tyranny can continue a while Wink

SC I'm a bit worried about you, please don't do too much.

A busy day - Dh working till 4pm; took twins to park after music to try out dd's newly mended bike. Spats galore Sad Two 9 year olds cannot take bike riding in turns [should have realised sharing is impossible with twins] However big park beautiful and they are brilliant bikers, and we had lots of fresh air. And have worked out how to get bike in boot of car.

Then ds2 went to a party. Did I say he found parties no trouble? I was wrong. He came out in hysterics saying someone had been mean to him (not true, he just thought they were) and screamed for about the next hour. DH was so fed up. Now he is fine, and you wouldn't think he was anything but a reasonable charming child. Confused

Dd has solved the ipod problem. And is busy downloading various cds for me.
I see now I should have gone straight into "music" section of computer, I really don't understand computers at all Grin.

BlueEyeshadow · 11/06/2011 22:30

We did manage to have some family fun as well as blazing rows and temper tantrums today - played cricket which everyone enjoyed, as well as catch and Wii sports. The only thing worse than being beaten by a 4 yr-old at bowling is being lectured by him on exactly what I'm doing wrong! Grin

Had takeaway for dinner so nice and relaxing too.

DH has also just ordered a bike shed for the garden which should go a long way towards decluttering the utility room. Yay!!

Lady/SC - that Delia recipe is the one I use for toad in the hole and it usually turns out pretty well. Main problem is the unreliability of my oven. Sigh.

Hope everyone else is feeling better too. Night all.

Stillchuckingit · 12/06/2011 06:25

Morning lovely fledglings

Tomorrow's step, no.12 for Saturday 12th June, is another one you can feel free to ignore unless you have signed up to Big Tent e-mails here

No missions because it is the weekend.

Sunday is renew your spirit day. Hope you all have a good 'un.

Blue I like your strategy re: dh and the utility room! Hope t-in-h worked out OK!

Swan Well done for taking in some fresh air anyway!! Managing ds and the party and your dh sounds stressful. Hope you get some time for yourself today.

(Thank you btw - I did do too much yesterday - feeling a bit rough - am going to rest more today - not going riding Sad)

Scatty Oh you lucky thing. Would kill to be going to Hadrian's wall. Have hiked along most of it in my youth (Blanchlands to Vindolanda). Well done re: the jeans!!

CHB and Cinderssorry you both had tough days yesterday

Hope your headache has gone CHB

Hope your dh gets some time off today Cinders

It's a bank holiday w/e here (Pentecost) so fairly relaxed schedule today thankfully. Hope you all enjoy your Sunday and manage some well-deserved r & r too!

LinzerTorte · 12/06/2011 08:12

Morning all,

It's a bank holiday weekend here too SC - I've always called it Whitsun, but have just googled and discovered that Whitsun and Pentecost are the same thing - so a nice relaxing day here too (I hope!). The DC went to the baker's first thing this morning to buy breakfast for Father's Day and came back with a bag full of rolls and croissants, which we've just enjoyed. Now just about to go out to a local nature park (DH was planning to spend most of the day in the garden as he bought lots of plants yesterday - the DC love helping him, so that would have been fine by me! - but the DC wanted to go on a trip out somewhere).

swan Glad you solved the iPod problem; it took me months before I felt confident about using mine! After my success at installing Office (albeit in the wrong language), I am boldly having a go at installing some translation memory software, which is very scary indeed.

scatty Enjoy Hadrian's wall!

CHB Hope the headache disappears soon.

Blue Envy of you having a utility room.

SC My mum had a hysterectomy when she was about 40 and felt nothing but relief as she'd had gynae problems for years.

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday. Smile

IShallWearMidnight · 12/06/2011 10:17

Still haven't faced the plastic bag cupboard, but did manage to declutter a binbag full of Stuff from the bedroom. Plus I cleared the ironing pile yesterday, so i'm feeling quite chipper about life Grin.

However, today I must:
get the hall cleared of all the various bags the DDs have dumped over the week
do some baking so there is cake for the lunchboxes
hoover the downstairs
clean the bathroom (at least wipe it down Blush)
make a plan for dealing with the plastic bag cupboard

ColdHeartedBitch · 12/06/2011 11:58

Bastard headache doesnt seem to be giving me a break. Ds is being a challenge. I am ready to walk out. So i am clearing up the soil on the landing from ds throwing the poor spider plant out of his room and tackling his room. Still raining. Looks like i am not going to get the fruit for jam making this year. :(

ColdHeartedBitch · 12/06/2011 15:54

And as usual my day has gone precisely zero to plan. Ds' room looks worse then when i decided it needed dealing with this morning. However I seem to gave gone into crisis tidying mode and have been tackling everywhere else a bit at a time. Nothing is tidy but there is noticeable progress in several locations. School uniform and bags have be sorted for tomo morning. There is a cake in the oven and i am working my way through a post holiday laundry pile from hell. There is more washed then to be washed. I even have a plan of action for the week in terms of stuff i want to get done. High on the priority list is my room as i finally want to get the last wall painted. It has only taken 2 years for me to get around to it so there will have to be a few touch ups on the other walls. still means the room has to be tidied enough for funiture moving about. So i should, if it all goes to plan, have tidy bedroom by the end of the week. Shock

Stillchuckingit · 12/06/2011 16:17

CHB you are doing/have done wonderfully well - particularly as you have a horrible headache - top Flying marks!!

So have you Ishallwearmidnight!! Especially for clearing the ironing pile!!

I'm in awe of you domestic goddesses who make cakes on Sunday for school lunch boxes throughout the week. The nearest I've come to that is flapjacks that turned to crumbs ...

Linzer yes we had Father's day celebration here too this morning ...dd's school always get them to make something in 'bricolage' + a card (and for mother's day too) so we were all organised....Thank you for yet another positive recommendation for hysterectomy - not feeling quite so bad about it now - it's just the single child thing ... we always wanted more - not realistically going to happen at my age but once you've had the op it is definitive (ifyswim). Heigh ho ...we do feel very blessed to have had one given the circumstances though!!

Speaking of "the one" - unnaturally quiet here today as she is over at a friend's ...extremely relaxing ...how does one so small make so much noise!! ??? Grin

Well

dh has just gone to help a goat..Smile

and my de cluttering has gone a tad over the top

have decided to stop using our huge living room

It will cut back on cleaning...

only one prob
tis the only room with a tv in it ...Confused

scattyspice · 12/06/2011 16:30

Respect to midnight and CHB for cake baking!

swan and blue eyes we were also out disturbing the peace in the countryside today. We conquered Hadrians Wall. As usual DD managed brilliantly 3/4 of the way round and drove us all mad with her complaining for the last 1/4.
I have also conquered the ironing pile Smile.

Stillchuckingit · 12/06/2011 16:36

Hope the goat is appropriately grateful Cinders

Scatty Really envy you the fantastic scenery. Well done to your dd! How old is she? I first walked along Hadrian's wall when I was about 8 or 9. Didn't really start enjoying it until my teens though, but that might have had something to do with the fact that my late father was obsessed with visiting the more obscure Roman forts in horizontal rain.

OP posts:
CindersHatesCleaning · 12/06/2011 17:32
Confused

think I have three sitting rooms now..

Im sure the goat will be very grateful
as it has a broken leg..

I did bake quiche today
not enough butter in the house to bake a cake

well must hide puter..

swanriver · 12/06/2011 19:18

Very rainy day. No-one has left the house except dh venturing out to buy eclairs with ds2Shock I wonder how ds1 is faring on his raft building course Hmm
Going Forth Mass today with all the First Holy Communicants, followed by a party for them so I had a busy morning. Nap on the sofa sort of afternoon, why do I feel so tired?

done
tidied kitchen
tidied playroom
bit of piano practice

No bank holidays for Pentecost or Ascension here, alas.

It turns out that Dd managed to transfer just one album by fluke and she doesn't know how to do any more. They are wandering around listening to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Ipods are so quiet, it is eerie!
She has managed to turn my settings into minimalist black and white though - with purple headers..

Cnders
are you referring to a squash and a squeeze or a real goat?

swanriver · 12/06/2011 19:21

no, it sounds like a real goat, poor thing.

CindersofGrottyMansion · 12/06/2011 19:22
Smile

that is a great book

I want to do a childrens book
but i never finish anything

The goat was real

dh is a vet ..Smile

swanriver · 12/06/2011 19:25

Blue the dreaded bike is still in the car! I'm dreading its reappearance in the hall.

swanriver · 12/06/2011 19:26

Memoirs? They don't have to have a beginning or an end, just episodes?
That is admirable Cinders, you must have plenty to deal with then.

CindersofGrottyMansion · 12/06/2011 19:35

My life has been rather a soap opera at times

sometimes too much

tis a lull at the mo..Smile

did I remember to say say on this thread
dd got onto her nursing course...

droitwichmummy · 12/06/2011 19:35

Very Envy of people baking! 2 more weeks of my cast but I might try to do some next weekend anyway. We were having such acute cake withdrawal that I actually bought a cake last week Blush

Think we need a bigger settee here in the naughty corner!

CindersofGrottyMansion · 12/06/2011 19:37

drags in dhs awful large sofa

shhhhhhhh
tis brown....Smile

LadyInPink · 12/06/2011 20:07

Yuk, it has rained nonstop all day preventing me from taking DD out to visit a farm i'd planned to go to. DH took her swimming this morning (what else is there to do when it's pouring down) and gave her a piano lesson while I tackled an enormous pile of ironing i'd planned to do Saturday then i visited my parents which gave us something to do for the afternoon while DH worked.

Love that squash and a squeeze book too and have most of that authors offerings over the years here in DD crammed bookcase.

Night night all Smile

NettieSpaghetti · 12/06/2011 20:42

Hello hello so sorry for being so lapse. I popped in as just found the new app! Can't scroll so might not work for here.

Hope you are all ok. Grin hope to catch up. Then maybe keep up! Grin

Stillchuckingit · 12/06/2011 21:32

Evening all. Lots of you have made me feel very guilty by taking advantage of the rain and tackling your ironing piles .. well done!

Very relaxing day today, generally taking it easy, not much Flying, so nothing very interesting to report except to say that although it is a public holiday here tomorrow, dh has managed to book himself in to speak at a conference followed by a business dinner [harrumph]

Swan good weather for raft building then! Pink good weather for swimming!

Cinders I always intend to write a children's book but I rarely finish anything either ... Congrats to your dd.

Droitwich everyone buys cake over here!! Everyone thinks you are quite odd if you buy one actually ... I do both but of course the patisserie stuff wins hands down

Huge waves to Nettie and everyone else ...

Hope you had a great time Ellie!! Come and tell us all about it ...

Tomorrow's step, no.13, for Monday 13th June, is here! It?s where we get introduced to missions and zone cleaning.
