I did it yonks ago (origional threads Wink) , have drunk alot of tea slipped since then and really want to start it again as it really seemed to work for me :) I am going to blitz as much as I can before the 1st (tree/decs away tonight etc.) so I am starting as much as I can with a clean sheet :) Anyone a lapsed flyer (or whatever we call ourselves) or wants to be a domestic goddess (Hmm) as of the 1st? The detailed lists don't look too bad actually but I do not have the sort of curtains I can wash so I will be leaving that out.
I do a thorough clean of the bathroom with my home blessing and I tidied the cupboards in the main bathroom when we did that a week or so ago so that is not too bad.
Sorry everyone - I have just realised how many posts I have just made. I will go away and try to be quiet now. [shame]

dylsmum1998 · 14/02/2011 12:21

morning all. I have just followed your blogs bessie and carrots- will read properly later.

Bessie, I forgot to buy oven cleaner. So last night I tried, rubbing bicarb round the oven then splashing vinegar all around. Lots of fun- dc ended up doing it. I left it for a couple of minutes then wiped it all out with a damp cloth- I'm suprised (and pleased!) to say it worked!

Carrots- I don't have a study/office. So I choose which ever room I feel needs the most work. Today its the kitchen as it is literally covered in dd's artworks from the weekend. I have been out this morning to buy new scraps books to put them in.

Curly do you have a link to the kids challenges, mine could prob do them. Although they already are in charge of putting away their washing (dd is 4 so needs a little help), setting/ cleaning table after dinner, and wiping up the dishes, and they have to clean their own rooms daily. So prob isn't much else they can really do, but curious what FLY lady recomends.

This morning I have been to collect parcels I missed last week, got the scrap books for dd's art, and taken my ICT skills exam- very pleased I passed.I have also done some washing and hung it out.

I now need to get working on my research project- it is suprisingly nearly finished, well half way done. I need to work out hwo I am going ot write up my results now. First though lunch time!

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 12:50

dylsmum well done passing your exam. Grin

Curly sorry I didn't realise there were specific kids challenges for flylady - I thought you meant the main tasks Blush

I am finding negotiating the flylady site a bit of a trauma. I thought I had printed off the zones a wee while ago but it only printed part of it. Bit frustrating!

My dcs jobs are: put away laundry, put away any piles of their stuff I leave at the bottom of the stairs for them, clear table and lay it for meals, take dishes to sink (scraping them off in dog's bowl if appropriate) and topping up water and kibble for the dog. DD also has to have her room tidy by night time to get her bedtime story. She feeds the guinea pigs and rabbits too.

They still like to help me do jobs though Grin

So far today the bathrooms have had a thorough clean, the lounge, hallway and master bedroom have been dusted, the hoovering has been done, the bin and recycling have been dealt with, the dishwasher has gone on, more things have been put into click lock tubs, the indoor and outdoor small furry animals have been cleaned out and the majority of the kitchen table clutter has been tackled. I haven't done all of that myself though.

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 12:52

the kids challenges Not read them yet but here is the link. Hope it works.

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 12:55

Not sure why it just goes to Feb 8th.
Right - really will try to be quiet now Blush

dylsmum1998 · 14/02/2011 13:03

thanks for the link Carrots. Not sure why it stops on feb 8th. I clicked through a sample of them and they are things like collecting books from around the house they haven't put away. Tidying away crayons etc etc. Things mine do each day anyway (well when i find their things and get them to put them away. So think I will just stick to what we are doing, it works for us Smile

Seems like my 2 do similar to yours. Despite ds telling me "noone else has to do this..." you'd think out my standard reply to that ine by now. "are you a sheep? then you don't need to follow everyone else!" LOL

Right must get on. Have no motivation for this essay today. Going to set a timer and do an hours worth

planestrainsautomobiles · 14/02/2011 13:38

After a few weeks MIA, I've returned to read through missed posts and I'm very confused Blush There seems to be lots of new things - detailed cleaning, home blessing hour, etc. etc.

Whilst I've been missing I have been fairly productive (after recovering from colds and my DS1 3rd birthday celebrations)...

Oven Cleaned (very satisfying)
Complete clear out of whole kitchen (ended up with 1 empty drawer) - what gadgets can I fill it with?? Grin
Bathroom Vanity Units decluttered (my DH did this?!!)
Utility Cupboard shelves decluttered on one side
Under stairs cupboard decluttered
Clothes sorted but still need to have a proper wardrobe blitz (as per guidelines in The Life Laundry book)
Toys decluttered (to make way for lots of new birthday presents)

I've been sticking to my morning, afternoon and evening routines and do feel a lot more on top of things but occasionally do have dreadful days when breakfast stuff is still out til teatime Blush

Will try to keep up with you all .... have opened all the links so shall start printing now.

PS Unfortunately no help from my DC (just 3 and 10 months)

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 13:50

Hello planes - nice to see you back.
Don't fret about the new stuff.
Once we finished babysteps we started to add a detailed cleaning list for those who have finished decluttering. Flylady gives us a different zone each week to clean deeply. We have decided it is optional just now as we don't want to be overwhelmed and scared away. We do our usual routines and add as much or as little of the detailed list in as we want to.
We do the same with Kelly's Daily missions - we do them if we can but it is not THE LAW.
Today we had a look at the kids challenges for the first time but they are obviously not appropriate for a 10 month old. You would be surprised what a 3 year old could do though if you have the time and patience Grin It would probably pay off in the long run.
We have also been working on menu planning and doing either weekly or monthly menu plans which is cutting down shopping bills and, in my case, will eventually make use of a ridiculous excess in the cupboards Blush
I hope that clarifies it all.
It sounds like you are doing brilliantly and finding the jobs to do in your house.
It feels like progress doesn't it?

dylsmum1998 · 14/02/2011 14:33

planes I have only been doing the basic routines, with occasional (once a week is that) Kelly mission thrown in. I just can't get it all done and be in uni fulltime too. Don't feel bad, As carrots says just do what you can, when you can- its all progress Smile

I have spent an hour and a half in front of the laptop typing. so going to stretch my legs and hoover up for a short break. I really wnat to get this essay done and dusted by wednesday night (haha!) so I can have Thursday and Friday off to do what I want.

bessie26 · 14/02/2011 14:54

I think this is a good link for what we could be doing if we feel inclined Grin. I'm doing the babysteps, and attempting to do the mission & the detailed cleaning if I get time.

Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the man to come & fix the loose bricks in the dining room wall (then render, then plaster) so is looking pretty unlikely that we will manage to decorate that room before #2 arrives now SadAngry. So my focus this week is going to be doing something about all the dining room stuff piled up on the bed in the spare room as the GP will need to sleep in it when I go into hospital.

Carrotsandcelery · 14/02/2011 16:14

bessie that is a very useful link. That is where I am aiming for. It explains why I didn't get the detailed clean of the kitchen done, as I haven't finished decluttering the kitchen. Once I have decluttered every cupboard then it will be so much quicker to straighten each cupboard when we are in that zone. Makes sense. So I have made lots of progress and don't need to beat myself up! Yay! Thanks bessie.

dylsmum good work on the essay. Hats off to you!

bessie26 · 14/02/2011 17:49

curly I forgot to say earlier, DD (2) is getting pretty good at cleaning the fronts of the kitchen cupboards, in fact anything that can be cleaned with a damp Jcloth!
I used to put all her toys away after she had gone to bed, but now make a point of doing it before we go up for a bath, so she can start to get used to doing it herself. She's good at putting things away, but does get distracted very easily! Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 15/02/2011 10:08

Happy Pancake Day everyone! My dcs and the dog have just polished off 2 batches of crepe style pancakes. Yummy!

What has everyone got planned for today?

Kelly's mission for today Does this seem very familiar to anyone? Have we done this one before?

today's daily focus

dylsmum1998 · 15/02/2011 12:01

is it pancake day today? I thought it was next month? Oh welll always room for pancakes Grin

I have just passed my literacy skills test, just the dreaded maths one to go!
I walked to the test centre and back as my car is running on fumes and my bank balance is negatives already this month. It was a nice brisk walk and only took 40 mins each way, so think I will do it again tomorrow.

so far today I have tidied, hoovered, on eload of washing done and out on the line. washed up.No mission for me today as I did that yesterday Smile although looking at the daily plan I do need to order some prescriptions..so will need to fit it a walk to the docs at some point.

Going to get some lunch then get on with my assignment. I think I am giong to start again as I want it laid out differently from how I did it yesterday.

SharonGless · 15/02/2011 13:21

Hello - had completely forgotten about it being pancake day. Just cleaned the kitchen too and don't really feel like flipping pancakes for tea but will make up some batter now!

Working lates yesterday but got the ironing done yesterday morning and a run before work plus usual morning routine so was chuffed with that.

DS' bedroom had everything dumped in it for the party on Sat night so am about to brave it now.

I may be some time....

noeyedear · 15/02/2011 13:51

Hi, I've been MIA for a few days too- LO can't make up it's mind whether to arrive or not- been in and out of hospital with all sorts of things- it's driving me nuts. But on the good housekeeping side, I've done loads of cleaning in the hope it gets the little bugger out! Not been doing my routines though. Will get round to reading them again and getting back into it!

planestrainsautomobiles · 15/02/2011 15:02

Thanks for the updates Carrots - I agree that I've seen yesterdays and todays Daily Missions before (I think) - maybe they repeat them on a regular basis?

I like the idea of menu planning, etc. I've also been making an effort with this....I'd got into a ridiculous habit of just buying far too much food using 'my usuals list' on Sainsburys online and had two fridges full of meat. Over the last month or more I've not ordered any meat and fish and been running down freezer stocks. Saving £££s too!

So Tuesday is planning day - I like this idea - maybe I'll add a new page to my control journal Wink

Dyls - well done passing your literacy skills test (whats it for?) and good look with your assignment. Don't know how you fit it all in.

Today I've done my usual routines - this afternoon I need to sort boys rooms out - wardrobe declutter and move baby books from DS1 to DS2s room. Yesterday I stuck up some decals on DS1's room that I've had for months and placed lots of framed photos around the house for DH to put up one night this week. Feels good getting round to jobs that have been hanging around for a long time!

Sharon - well done for your early morning run!!

Carrotsandcelery · 15/02/2011 16:46

Dyls Well done - I hope the maths goes well too - that would be my sticking point.
Sharon - way too impressive.
noeyedear are you and bessie both expecting? I am so confused. Good luck with that mission anyway - let us know when you are a proud Mum again.
Planes your house must be making fantastic progress. It makes a big difference when we get these jobs done.

I have been to get more click lock tubs, done some washing and hoovered the utility but otherwise I have mostly been playing on the wii with ds. Grin

planestrainsautomobiles · 15/02/2011 17:04

Here I am following Delia's recipe to make pancakes with my DS1 and found out that pancake tuesday isn't until March - at least I'm getting some good practice !! I only thought I'd check as I got a very strange look from a neighbour when I told her I was rushing to get some eggs for Shrove Tuesday.

planestrainsautomobiles · 15/02/2011 17:10

BTW, think its funny that we're all making pancakes a month early!! Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 15/02/2011 20:00

Ha ha! That is my fault I am sure. Sorry! But I am sure you all enjoyed your pancakes. Are you sure it isn't pancake day? I know Easter is late this year but Dh assured me he looked it up. Unless it was a cunning ploy to get me to make pancakes Hmm

Carrotsandcelery · 15/02/2011 20:04

Ahem! Pancake Day Blush Dh is for it although we did have a great time with the pancakes so I can't be too angry. I hope everyone enjoyed their trial run. Grin

bessie26 · 15/02/2011 20:52

we had pancakes for breakfast on sunday Grin

I'm due mid-april - although DD arrived early, so I'm trying to get everything (incuding the house) sorted early. noeye when are you due? now?!?

I've asked DH to get some more bag clips the next time he's in town as they're a bit cheaper than buying all those boxes (although not so good for stacking)

planes I started doing a weekly food planner because I got fed up of the food we were throwing away - these days we hardly ever throw anything away Smile

sharon hope you made it out of DS' room safely!

dyls are all these tests going towards a qualification? what is it? and well done for all the studying - I did my degree part-time while working years ago & just had no spare time at all (and that was before children!)

I filled my car up with fuel today - £65! i almost cried! but consoled myself with a twirl

I reckon the missions just go round & round every month - so if we don't get round to doing it one month, we can just do it the next! Grin

I should really do something useful, like some decluttering or the yoga DVD I got for xmas & still haven't opened, but am feeling very unmotivated this evening....

SharonGless · 15/02/2011 21:02

Ha ha - oh well we enjoyed them anyway! DH was not convinced about the date but I said it was on MN so was believed Wink

Welcome back planes and well done everyone for keeping up with missions etc. From what I can see the detailed lists and missions keep coming round so if we miss a wee bit one month make sure you do it next time.

Although I only did half an hour in DS' room at least you can see the floor now. Rest of house is looking pretty clutter free and I have just invested in a feather duster! You may laugh at me ladies but it has transformed my cleaning!!! We have got picture rails and I used to stand on furniture to wipe them down - no more just a flick of my duster lol.

Bessie - it is shocking the price of fuel now. At least you are saving money by meal planning and not throwing food away.
Our first flybaby - when are you due noeyedear?

Carrots - are your DC on half term then? Ours isn't until next week. Have you got anything planned?

Carrotsandcelery · 15/02/2011 21:14

Sharon I am so Blush Blush Blush about the pancakes.
My dcs are on half term just now and we are having a great time, although it has thrown my flylady routine into chaos. Today I realised I just needed to do basic routines and get back into the rest when they go back on Thursday.

We haven't done anything flash, just tried to relax as we are having a totally rubbish time just now and it is very pleasant to be nowhere near school.
Have you got plans for half term yourself?
Well done on tackling ds bedroom. It is best to get on the job straight away or it will become like our study. [shiver]
