Plum - maybe you need the physio more than ever though?

Alice - that is a good tip about the squash, they are blooming hard work to peel!

Mini - DS2 was normal until 14months, then developed a particular kind of sever epilepsy that 'rubs out' pretty much everything that's been learnt so far and stops any further development. He had brain surgery in Dec (23rd) to remove a big chuck of the right hand side. He's been seizure-free since :) and now is off all meds :) and has been developing like mad since the surgery. But his speech has been the slowest area, he was effectively 0months at surgery in communication. So we are very happy :)
But, he is still a long way behind, will get a statement and will go to SN pre-sch next year, there is a possibility he will catch up over time and could move to mainstream, no-one knows.

Morning ladies. Another bad night last night, DC2 was up at 5am. He snuck downstairs and got the steps from the kitchen and got his DS lite and then came upstairs and was sat in the bath shouting and laughing at the game he was playing Angry Then he wouldn't go back to bed and sleep once I had taken it off him, just made as much noise as he could. So I am hanging again as I didn't get to bed till midnight because I wanted to wait for DH to get home, then DH disturbed me when he came to bed at 1am. Oh! and I have a cold.

ImASlattern - that's not good, i slept badly, no real reason, infuriating really.

Yes we do think that the baby will help (not why we're having it obv), as it develops and catches up with DS2 it may encourage him to do more and stay ahead :)

I'm hooked on the Chilean miners too, amazing stuff. And to think that we on the other side of the world are seeing stuff that the relatives right there can't see, weird.

Freak! I hope you tore him off a strip?

Any tips for dealing with a vomiting toddler? DS has been sick 3 times already today. My bed is stripped and airing, the sofa has been christened. The washing machine is on and the bath is full of more stuff waiting to go in.
He won't drink anything but wants to eat and keeps crying :(:(:(:(

FreakoidOrganisoid · 13/10/2010 09:58

Ali I was fuming.

Poor ds (and you).

Try to get him to have small sips of water/dilute juice.

If he wants food small amounts of dry toast are ok. Also bananas to replace potassium. (just like for us). If he is anything like my ds he will try to gorge himself and then sick it all up again so really try to restrict him, give him a soldier at a time and let it settle before giving anything else. Apparently ready salted crisps are good too.

Cover floor with towels/waterproof bedmats and have a bucket ready to dive in and catch sick.

Oh and I always worried about calpol on empty stomach but dr told me it's ok and can help encourage them to drink if they have a pain that's stopping them.

Also make sure you look after yourself, I get really tense when mine are poorly andd find it hard to eat etc.

ImASlatternGetMeOutOfHere · 13/10/2010 10:43

Freak I've done that before, it is embarassing isn't it. Though I don't envy you coming home to find your ex rummaging around your things.

Ali I second what Freak says. Also can you get some icepops or make your own? Children quite often like sucking them if they are not drinking.

Children up, breakfast, showers, dressed, lunch boxes made, off to school done
DC3 to nursery
Dishwasher on and emptied also done some washing up,
washing machine 2 wash in and 2 out just got 1 thing to put through a jumper wash and that is me all caught up again.

Freak - Shock & Angry for you, that's outrageous!! Maybe put a lock on for anytime in the future he might be in the house without you? I couldn't bear it.

Ali - lots of good advice from Freak there. definitely little and often, if one bit stays down, allow him some more.
Nothing but butter on the toast/bread either to start with.
anything salty really to replace body salts. crisps can be good as you can suck on them til they're soggy if your throat is sore (from being sick).

Abandoned town plan for today, meant to be getting on with eBay pile but got a letter from GOSH that's got me thinking. Calls the 'dodgy bit' in DS2's brain a tumour which has thrown me somewhat. A benign, non-spreading, non-chemo, kind of tumour but still....

Freaki - am seriously Shock at you discovering that. What did he have to say for himself?

Ali can only support what the others said. There has been a sick bug going round school here, DS had it badly earlier in the year, and it is no fun.

JKS - I can see why that has rattled you - you poor thing. But the news is still GOOD, hopefully? and the use of the word as a medical term, don't let it get you down if you can help it. Is there anyone you can call for clarification, or simply to talk it over with?? To help put your mind at rest?

Still glued to the BBC (with my box of tissues) getting jobs done in the times between the capsule coming out of the ground.

Seriously blotchy cheeks! Blush

Shock JKS I'm not surprised that's thrown you, think I'd be bawling. It's the terminology that's scary isn't it. Prob won't make you feel any better at all because a)I'm an adult and b) not my brain but I have had a tumour removed from my shoulder and it's all fine although themsing the word tumour terrified me.

I'maslattern H was bloody lucky I was embarrassed about having got the wrong day or I'd have really lost it with him.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/10/2010 11:49

JKS - I can see why that's thrown you, didn't they use that terminology at all while he was being treated? Can you give them a ring just to reassure yourself - or maybe just ring your GP for a chat?

Thank you for all the advice :) I tried him with a bit of banana which stayed down so he's had about 2 thirds of a banana and a little piece of bread about 10 minutes ago which is staying put so far. He's also had some water.
If I didn't have a stonking headache then we would be alright I think!

JustKeepSwimming · 13/10/2010 12:18

Ali - have some paracetamol, i've had to rely on it when i've had really bad headaches this pg.

They have never mentioned this terminology before, perhaps the pathology/testing of the stuff has only just come in, i will ring the consultant's sec later to leave a message saying i'd like to discuss it, feel it is bad form to just let us know some results by accident almost in a letter, grr.

Anon - ditto re news coverage!
But i have also been good with starting eBay process too.

Anon - i am totally the same, such a weepy wuss

Mini - i believe "Irish twins" refers to 2 children born within 12 months/same calendar year. As you hadn't said you had twins, guess we were wondering if you'd had 2 & 3 really close together.

Right must weigh pile of stuff for ebay - figure i can do that in front of the tv Grin
