We've had a new mattress, so decided to clear everything off our ottoman. Our bed & Ottoman very rarely looks this tidy. Does this look dated?

It already looks so much warmer. Keep adding little bits when you find the right ones, but you are on the right track.

PS. I’m impressed by how well you have handled the comments on this thread, even the harsh ones.

Thank you

Getting there. We like it anyway.

I like the lamps! And I also like the chair.

the chair goes well with the lamps (something about the shapes just fits imo).

It already looks warmer and cozier :)

That's looking a lot more put together

Rescue the cushion as PP has already said, you like it so keep it

One thing Ive done to make bedrooms look more luxurious when using odds and sods of furniture - is over size the duvets. I have doubles on singles , kings on doubles, super kingsize on kings - I have a lot of beds

Right now Im made up a twin room using two odd single beds but given them matching headboards and the double duvets cover a multitude of sins

Im using some wing back chairs from a sitting room as bedroom chairs and tying them into the colour way by adding cushions the same fabric colour as the curtains as I cant afford to recover and they are too good to be thrown/given away

We are having to reconfigure our house as parents have now both passed and Ive furniture galore , rooms galore and not a lot of money. Paint and soft furnishings are having to come to the rescue

Loving the ottomon, although I still think it's a bit bland, but should look better when I've got my colourful bedding on the bed. The slogans on the wall hasn't gone, but I've used AI to remove from photo. The only things we've bought new are the lamps & ottomon. I won't be putting up any more updates, as the only thing I want now is a rug, but don't know when that'll be.

I've been thinking about having larger duvet covers, but to be honest, putting the king-size ones on is hard enough, plus buying all new superb king would work out quite expensive.

In the great scheme of things it doesnt - and pegs on the corners really help me :)

I think my superkingsize duvet was around £40 in the sales and duvet sets are pretty cheap.

I always buy for my bed, the best I can afford. The first lot I bought back when dh and I got our first kingsize bed back in 2001 - I paid £100 a set - in the sales - I bought two - one is still being used

I love my cotton sheets and buy the highest thread count I can afford - in the sales.. Using a top sheet places less wear on the cover, less chance of sweat stains etc

I appreciate that money is tight - it is for everyone, hence Im repurposing a lot of mums old fashioned furniture and the spare rooms have cheaper covers and duvets - because they dont get used daily. My own bed, is a different matter. I spent on mattress , Ive spent on sheets, but Ill use a cheap throw to tie the colour in - Like you I prefer neutral bedding - mines all cream. And yes I did once buy a very expensive duvet, then I hit the menopause, it was too hot, cost me a fortune to get dry cleaned - its away

Getting creative as best you can also helps. DH is a whizz with a staple gun and can refurbish chair seats , headboards. Material is often curtain from a charity shop. I needed tie backs for the very cheap curtains I got in the sale . they were costing the same again, Ive crocheted a couple - cost an hour of my time and possibly 50p in yarn . I bought dead cheap velvet lamp shades ( £6 each) for two ugly squat stainless steel touch lamps mum had - they look amazing now. Like you Im in the eves ( had to saw the legs of a wardrobe to get that to fit ) , and a very long room with the velux windows the far end, The wall behind the bed I papered and I use 6x4 cheap frames to mount wee art postcards on the smaller walls

My living room, again , no wall height ( same floor ) so Ive put wee narrow floating shelves to put wee bits and bobs on . Just a wee bit under the eves but deep enough to hold a picture frame or a wee ornament . It give an impression of height , gives me places to show off my bits without having to fill the room with furniture

If you are scared of colour, look at a colour wheel . You have your natural base and you have your red, look at the colours opposite the red, look at the colours either side. You start with the basic colour wheel then you dig deep with the colours, warmer, cooler, . That's all I do . Im no interior designer , I keep it plain and simple and not ageing, then add the splashes of colour

The chair is in an odd place. Under the window is better.

@Readinggirl spreading the red accents around the room (love the picture above the dressing table - the perfect red IMO) helps your eye travel around the room instead of jumping from bit to bit. Your small changes have made a big difference.

Can't have a lamp there though.

@Readinggirl so get a lamp table and an extension cable around the room - or use natural light from the window. Chairs don’t have lamps in bedrooms and it’s not attractive where it is.
