Where do people find the great sofas?

Hi - we need a new sofa and have a budget of up to £2k (could stretch for the perfect one but would be also happy to pay less). I would love something along the lines of the one in the picture - it’s got to be really comfortable, something you could sink into, ideally deep red or burnt orange colour though could be a nice rich dark blue or green. Natural fabrics much preferred (cotton velvet, cotton, linen). Not something that shows every mark or where you have cushions constantly slipping down. Something that’s going to last us.

Anyone seen anything along these lines or got a sofa which is like this?

We have grey velvet type sofas which have got quite grubby. They were treated with fabric protector so marks rub off but it’s just overall grubby. In the past we have had sofas with removable covers that I washed. How on earth do I clean them?

Maybe a handheld carpet cleaner would work

I’m scared to try in case I damage the fabric .

We recently got a blue velvet (our choice of upholstery) Ercol sofa from a local independent furniture shop. They had a big variety of styles, manufacturers etc, and the service was spot on. We spent ages sitting & lying on it first, measuring it, going home to measure the space and going back to the shop to measure again. We asked about cat proofing and were advised short pile velvet. Turns out that our cat is happy to sit on it, but has not tried to scratch it, despite shredding the old one.

I read somewhere they don’t like velvet.

In the end I got new covers for our Ikea Stocksund from Bemz (dark red cotton) and we’re really pleased with them/ it.

Still got eyes open for something like I originally posted, if I ever come across it! But this worked really well.

We also got this one from Robert Dyas at the same time for our kitchen in navy blue. It fits the space and is often a glorified dog-bed so in the end I thought ‘go for something you won’t mind them ruining!’ It’s perfectly comfortable to sit on, the cushions can slip forward a bit and the velvet looks a bit cheap (but is usually covered by an old dog towel and is definitely hard wearing and non dirt showing). There was an Ikea one we would
have got instead but it was out of stock at the time.

This is similar to the Swoon Sidbury loveseat that we have. The velvet on ours is high quality and there is velcro beneath the cushions to stop them slipping off (in case anyone is looking for something similar!)

We got two of these from Bradbeers. They’re from the Fontaine range and were about £2k each. They will make them in any fabric from any of the sample books in the shop. We got them in red velvet and they are glorious. So comfortable and squashy but with plenty of support.

Here’s one of ours.
