Where do people find the great sofas?

Hi - we need a new sofa and have a budget of up to £2k (could stretch for the perfect one but would be also happy to pay less). I would love something along the lines of the one in the picture - it’s got to be really comfortable, something you could sink into, ideally deep red or burnt orange colour though could be a nice rich dark blue or green. Natural fabrics much preferred (cotton velvet, cotton, linen). Not something that shows every mark or where you have cushions constantly slipping down. Something that’s going to last us.

Anyone seen anything along these lines or got a sofa which is like this?

This isn't country style but it is the most comfortable sofa I've ever sat on. I don't have it but sat on it in the showroom and didn't want to get up, ever!

A family member has this one and you're right @SyntheticFluff it's definitely very comfortable! If our style was less country house eclectic, I'd go for these.

Posting to follow this too, I've been looking for a really lovely squashy, comfy sofa for over a year.

I quite fancy a green velvet one from DFS but am worried it won't last.

Have had a navy velvet sofa from DFS for the last two years and it has lasted brilliantly. We are not particularly careful with it either. Really comfortable too.

Thank you! I have my eye on one but waiting 5/6 months is madness!

It really is and their communication on it all has not been great to be honest. We still don't understand why the delays are occurring and they just say we can cancel (not possible for us as any other option still won't get us a sofa for Christmas as this stage) or wait and we'll get compensation for the delay ... But then won't tell you how much compensation it will be even roughly so can't make an informed decision! I really like Next furniture but this experience has soured it for us a bit. Currently facing family travelling here for Christmas with nothing to sit them on other than the floor or our kitchen chairs 🤦🏻‍♀️

I fell in love with this sofa in the Next furniture book this year, but they don’t sell it anymore and couldn’t tell me what it was called. It looks so comfy and I’d love to know where I could buy it. Anyone recognise it at all?

Try sofology, ours is like an oversized couch and so comfy. Without the scatter cushions I swear its about same size as a single bed.

But in terms of the colours that couch reminds me of the Joules amd ted baker couches that DFS do.....

Infracat · 25/11/2025 23:57

Barker and Stonehouse. Lots of choice. Great quality.

We bought a very comfortable corner sofa from Sofology. Got it in a charcoal colour which would be practical for those with kids and dogs. Its really comfortable.

Where sort of area are you based as there are lots of regional/independent shops who may have what you want?

Based more towards the south, we love Lucas World Of Furniture in Aylesbury.
We have never lived particularly close to Aylesbury but in the past 20yrs we have visited them and bought two suites (they do national delivery) and have not been disappointed. They have a huge range from multiple manufacturers, most of which are top quality so they may have what you are looking for but I can see in this case the main sticking point will be the cost (and your £2k budget).

Check them out online?

Oh, update as I have just seen the previous post.
If waiting times are an issue then be prepared to be disappointed, think we waited some 4-5 months for ours (made in UK).

Edited

South Wales, though we are also quite often in the Thames Valley.

I wouldn’t mind waiting or spending more if it was a sofa I really loved, but to be honest even looking at the sofas at more expensive places I haven’t yet seen anything where I’m like ‘I absolutely love that’!! And I resent spending bigger when I don’t feel like that (I did it once with a sofa.com sofa and I just quietly resented the sofa every day for 5 years until I felt I could justify giving it away).

We have pets and children too.

Our current sofa is a 5 year old Ikea Stocksund which we got when my youngest was 1 and to be fair that is a really comfy sofa and has lasted well. We need a second one because we moved to a bigger house though and there is a space in the sitting room that needs one. I would probably be considering another Stocksund if they hadn’t discontinued them. There is definitely something to be said for a sofa you don’t feel too invested in.

curious how many people have mentioned DFS as I would never have thought of them - maybe because I’m scarred by a visit to a DFS showroom about 15 years ago when they were just 100% not my style and all highly synthetic fabrics. I will look again though!

I have 2 sofas that look just like your picture but I've had them for over 10 years, got them from DFS. Dont think they do them anymore sadly. They have removable washable covers too and are so comfy! They have held up surprisingly well over the years.

deeahgwitch · 26/11/2025 14:39

I love the look of the Ligne Roset @Specksonbut they are far too low for me - very ungainly of me getting up from one 🙈😀
If only someone brought out very similar but with hidden feet iykwim.

I thought you’d actually found the one then!

I thought maybe OP would like this one as well, because it looks squishy and super comfortable!

I have an old Ikea Nikkala sofa that I love & that is really comfy. I had it & my other smaller Ikea sofa covered by Bemz, in Designers Guild Brera linen. Yes, it cost more than the sofas were worth - but the sofas themselves fit perfectly in our living space, & the covers are washable which is brilliant!

They have lots of linen, cord, velvet options for your existing sofa (which is a lovely classic model I think, & much nicer than most of the options suggested ...).

Here are some reds/oranges on the 3.5 seater version of yours. So much more sustainable too!

So after your reading your post I went on facebook marketplace just to check, and found the same sofa we already have for sale 20 miles away for £75! So I’m going to get that and then order new covers for our current one and the ‘new’ one - Bemz seems to have some good discounts on for Black Friday. Would you go for that linen again? They have a nice deep red cotton option I’m very tempted by but I have a long train journey tomorrow so I’m going to sort it properly then!

Perfect!!!

I would send off for Bemz fabric samples first? They seem to have stopped the Brera linen range (the covers we have) - it's either Simply Linen or Recycled Linen now. I do really like the texture of our linen covers, so if those are similar then yes, I'd go for it again. I preferred it to the cotton options when I got samples - but it was also a colour preference for me. Very tempted by the velvets & cords they have too!!

DuchessofStaffordshire · 27/11/2025 15:46

I'm currently sitting enjoying a cup of tea on my dark red velvet sofa. It's from The Lounge Co and it's very comfy. The fabric is what I think they call family friendly velvet (we have dogs, cats and children). It's very easy to clean with a damp cloth.

NotThatWay · 27/11/2025 16:54

Ebay, or find a local charity shop/warehouse that specialises in furniture.

I have sold and bought a sofa via Ebay, and bought via charity.

Also keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace. I've bought furniture via that.

That’s a shame. Has anyone any experience of Vintage Sofa Co? I liked the look of some of theirs but I’ve literally never heard of them (until the internet realised I want a sofa and now advertises me nothing else!!)

My sofa is from The Vintage Sofa company. I’ve also got lamps and cushions from there, and a huge rug (which is honestly lush!!)

I’ve got the ‘Marnie’ in green velvet. Love it so much 💖

There are one or two other companies that offer covers for existing & defunct Ikea models - they're cheaper, but the fabrics are mostly man-made & don't look like anything near the quality offered by Bemz. This is one: https://www.comfortly.com/collections/stocksund

However, I think this company is new since I last looked, & the quality looks pretty good?

We bought ours from Arlo and Jacob after testing basically every sofa place in our city! We love them.

ResusciAnnie · 27/11/2025 17:45

Agree OP, all sofas are depressingly shit these days, style over comfort. Absolutely none of the sofas in the photos on this thread look as big and deep and comfy as the one in your image.
