Where do people find the great sofas?

Hi - we need a new sofa and have a budget of up to £2k (could stretch for the perfect one but would be also happy to pay less). I would love something along the lines of the one in the picture - it’s got to be really comfortable, something you could sink into, ideally deep red or burnt orange colour though could be a nice rich dark blue or green. Natural fabrics much preferred (cotton velvet, cotton, linen). Not something that shows every mark or where you have cushions constantly slipping down. Something that’s going to last us.

Anyone seen anything along these lines or got a sofa which is like this?

I want exactly the same! A big squashy comfy sofa. Hoping to steal ideas from this thread!

We had a big squashy comfy sofa and gradually the cushions squashed, so it was still big but not squashy nor comfy. The suppliers said we needed to plump the cushions every day. That became rather a chore very quickly and so we replaced the cushions for a less squashy filling, that was not so compfy. 😥

Thanks I will check those out. Does Loaf have a good reputation for quality?

Loaf is Awful. They’re not squashy. They squash and then are hard.

Cats hate velvet sofas.

Mine don’t sorry to say as have a purple velvet sofa bed from Willow and Hall that the two of them practically live in and the corners of which are used as a scratch post when they think nobody is looking. It cost £1800 so not very happy 😆
@OneDayIWillLearn i ordered the Sydney four seater sofa from DFS last year in charcoal chenille. The production and delivery times were all spot on and I opted for the premium seat filling. The sofa is very comfortable and I spent hours lying on when I had the flu, it did a great job. The material looks lovely but is chenille and so relatively durable.

The loaf eBay outlets are great

Darlings of Chelsea have a wide range of styles, fabrics and leather. They have a showroom in London, one in Surrey and I think there’s another, but I can’t recall where. They will send swatches of fabric. The lead time was six weeks and it was just a few days more, when ours was delivered. We’d changed our minds about the colour, so that was a slight delay.

The delivery people were really good and careful. We had an issue with one of the sofa cushions, which was replaced promptly and a technician came out to stretch the fabric over the frame in one corner, where it was slightly wrinkled. Customer service was good too.

DFS sofa lover here, I know they get a bit of a bad rep bit we’ve had 3 sofas from them and have loved them all.
Had a 2 & 3 seater first, only got rid as we wanted a corner sofa.
first corner sofa was so deep and comfy we would sleep there some nights if watching a film, had it for about 5 years and then passed onto a family member.
second corner sofa I’ve had for 10 years and it’s only now starting to look worn (to me, others say it still looks in good condition) but I do have 2 cats and children so it’s done is really well.

you need to get in the showrooms and take your shoes off to really get a feel for if it’s deep and squishy enough!

I want the same thing! Currently have velvet sofas that have to be kept covered with stretchy velvet covers to protect them from the cat and dog, which defeats the purpose of the lovely colour/material.

That's the thing, made for loafing. I liked my friend's loaf sofa but when ours was delivered, it didn't feel as loafy shall we say. After a bit of usage, it then began to feel squishy and comfortable.
We have it in linen and still looks good as new.

I also have a beautiful sofa I bought second hand from an A- lister (didn't realise until we turned up at the fancy address in Notting Hill). It's so uncomfortable!! Despite so wanting to love it, I'll have to sell it on. It's cream but still looks pristine after six years, that's how uncomfortable it is 😅.

I also have the style of the last pic posted and it's an ex M&S, made in England over 30 years ago. Couple we got it from had it from new and used everyday since. It's so good, literally just needs new covers.
Cost us £25 for 2 of them.

Electraboogaloo · 12/01/2026 15:12

We were torn between the Tetrad Elgar Grand, Constable Grand and the sofa.com Teddy 4 seater. All three are super deep, comfy and have loads of fabric choices. Went with sofa.com in juniper velvet but they are all gorgeous. Sofa.com have massive fabric samples that drape over the whole sofa to give a much better idea of how it will look than those little sample books.

Zinc Chenille 4 Seater Sofa | DFS https://share.google/0gLrAjjezxcZu1RFl hi op. We got this in DFS just over a year ago. It's French Connection and we got the grey one with blue and green running through it- we have a mucky 6 year old so darker was better for us but loads a colours available. Can't recommend it enough. So comfy and easily maintained.

Mommydearest89 · 12/01/2026 20:08

You could try a modular sofa. They are boneless so you can change them around to fit your needs. There was
one on temu for 300 but I've seen them around 1.2 - 2k @ swyfthome.com

@DBD1975i think you’ve sufficiently wanted everyone now 😂 i saw your other thread about it and hope you get a resolution. The one I’m buying isn’t the softer sit. @mummabubsand @Dunderheideddid yours arrive?

Not yet! But the contracted time is sometime before Feb 6th, so it’s not technically late yet…

Interesting thread, following with interest.

mummabubs · 11/01/2026 19:16

Any progress @Dunderheided? X

Nothing yet - and when I log into my Next account I still have the option of cancelling them! Reading this thread and wavering!

Are you happy with your sofa now that it’s had time to settle in?

mummabubs · 14/01/2026 10:43

@DunderheidedUrgh that's so frustrating for you, I really hope they come through soon.

We are happy with it (it's a Wilson small corner sofa), but for total transparency we had no other options due to the awkward space we needed the sofa to fit- we spent weeks searching for our required measurements online and the only option for us in the end was Next or pay for a bespoke sofa made from scratch which we simply couldn't afford. I think if we had any other options to buy from we would have cancelled the Next sofa order after the second time it was delayed just due to the whole situation.

Dunderheided · 14/01/2026 16:51

@mummabubs thanks for the feedback. I’m kind of similar - I want to squeeze 2 x 2.5 seater sofas into a relatively small space. Height, width and depth (and comfort) were all carefully juggled!

But funnily enough I’m happy enough with the cheap second hand sofa I bought as an interim sofa, and I think we might now stay in our current house more than 18 months… ⚖️

I really like Cozmo sofas and they have a good sale on and efficient service.
Loaf also good.
Heals too.

Hi

I'm looking at Cozmo now! Is your sofa comfy?

minipie · 22/02/2026 14:12

curious79 · 25/11/2025 19:27

Look at secondhand sofas. Including on eBay or Facebook marketplace. When people move, and need to get rid of sofas, you can pick up the most incredible bargains. Think Wesley barrel, or Duresta, for a fraction of their original cost.

Agree with this!

If you have an auction house near you look there too.

Second hand sofas are the way to get very expensive sofas for peanuts.

Happyharper · 23/02/2026 05:38

@minipie don't sofas have a sell by date so the newer you get the better? Any tips on brands to look for?

FrostyMorn · 21/03/2026 13:49

For anyone interested in getting new covers for old sofas I've just taken delivery of covers for an IKEA ektorp sofa and armchair from Comfortly and it's very nice quality. They had a decent range of fabric options and cheaper than bemz. My sofa is 20 years old and looks like new...though the cat is currently out gallivanting and hasn't yet discovered it...

Are you still pleased with it @Carolann886 , I like the look of it and plan to try in the shop. It has mixed reviews, but going along the stance people tend to review if they are more unhappy. I like the look of some of the other french connection ones too.

AmberSelivan · 29/04/2026 17:26

I love comfort, and for me, the most important thing about a sofa was that it be soft—soft enough to really sink into the cushions. That’s why I specifically looked for a deep seat and natural upholstery. I found a model on 1StopBedrooms that I liked the look of—and which, I felt, would fit nicely into my interior—and then I went to local furniture stores to find a similar model so I could touch it in person and test out the comfort level.

Sundayafternooning · 30/04/2026 07:14

We have grey velvet type sofas which have got quite grubby. They were treated with fabric protector so marks rub off but it’s just overall grubby. In the past we have had sofas with removable covers that I washed. How on earth do I clean them?
