Where do people find the great sofas?

Hi - we need a new sofa and have a budget of up to £2k (could stretch for the perfect one but would be also happy to pay less). I would love something along the lines of the one in the picture - it’s got to be really comfortable, something you could sink into, ideally deep red or burnt orange colour though could be a nice rich dark blue or green. Natural fabrics much preferred (cotton velvet, cotton, linen). Not something that shows every mark or where you have cushions constantly slipping down. Something that’s going to last us.

Anyone seen anything along these lines or got a sofa which is like this?

I wish you all the luck with this. I'm upthread as the person who ordered a sofa from Next in early August, quoted 11 weeks lead time and we are still waiting on the sofa. Last week I was literally told by Customer Services that the sofa was on track for "delivery tomorrow" (27th November). Then when I contacted customer services at the end of the day to ask what was going on I just got "it's on delay again". They won't even give me a new date. At this point we're at 24 weeks.

Next sofas are dreadful, currently in a complaints process with them.
I hope your experience is different.

Thanks I will check those out. Does Loaf have a good reputation for quality?

I'm afraid I had to take Loaf to the Furniture Ombudsman - yep, there really is one - to get my money back on two defective sofas. Never again.

Actually, the escalation within Loaf once I started the Ombudsman thing was enough to get it promptly resolved, refunded and a fulsome apology.

Did mean, however, I was without sofas for six weeks and using garden chairs. Actually liked the spacious airy feel of my living room without sofas 🤣

Thank you! I have my eye on one but waiting 5/6 months is madness!

Don't buy from Next, we have the most uncomfortable sofa ever, it is dreadful, currently in a complaints situation with Next, never again.

Thank you, @BrightMintTea I've lusted over Loaf sofas, (specifically pink velvet ones ) but MN shared wisdom is that they are dreadful, sadly. I remember a thread where multiple people came on to say that their Loaf sofa was the worst they'd ever had. I'll check out your other suggestions though.

And @OneDayIWillLearn I disagree, I have a Loaf three seater, smart velvet and as my sixth sofa as an adult, it is hands down the best quality sofa I’ve ever owned. Three years old and perfect condition, the smart velvet is extraordinary. Great service and after sales too. It’s my second most expensive one, but it’s so so worth it in terms of value. Look at their BearHug (mine), squashie or smooch sofa, one may be the shape for you. I don’t work for them!

I fell in love with this sofa in the Next furniture book this year, but they don’t sell it anymore and couldn’t tell me what it was called. It looks so comfy and I’d love to know where I could buy it. Anyone recognise it at all?

Looks like mine and it is hideous, the cushions are filled with foam chips which compact over time and make it very uncomfortable to sit on, currently in a complaints situation with Next.

Cat clawing is one of the reasons the current batch need replacing so I'll be having strong words with the furry housemate!

Cats hate velvet sofas.

Lifejigsaw · 11/01/2026 18:22

@DBD1975i think you’ve sufficiently wanted everyone now 😂 i saw your other thread about it and hope you get a resolution. The one I’m buying isn’t the softer sit. @mummabubsand @Dunderheideddid yours arrive?

Going to the furniture ombudsman if they don't get back to me Monday as promised with a suitable resolution!

Laughinglama · 11/01/2026 18:29

DFS euphoria is the most comfortable sofa i have ever sat on. The joules sofa range isn’t bad from there either for velvet. Barker and stonehouse have a few nice ones. The houston is nice although a leather type.

Avoid NEXT like the plague their sofas are awful we changed ours after 3 months and know multiple other people who don’t rate them either.

Lifejigsaw · 11/01/2026 18:49

According to Which, Next score better than DfS, Sofology, ScS, Sofa.com etc

this is so confusing! I was already struggling with heart (green) and head (neutral) on the Next Campbell sofa I want. I don’t want to have to start the search again 😂

mummabubs · 11/01/2026 19:14

@Lifejigsaw Yes! But only after multiple formal complaints and even then it was an absolute palaver. They gave us loan sofas on 19th December after telling us the sofas were delayed until February (🙄) but that we'd get a 25% refund as an apology (worth £340 to us). Got an email confirming the February date again on 21st, only to then get an email on 22nd to say they were ready for delivery and needed to be despatched there and then. I did say it wasn't convenient being so close to Christmas and we had literally just got the loan sofas to see us through, but felt they were pushy. Delivered on 23rd December so had to stay in again for another delivery window and - should have seen this coming - Next are saying because they fulfilled the order before Christmas they will offer us £120. Which feels absolutely insulting given the complete shitstorm this was for four months.

mummabubs · 11/01/2026 19:16

Any progress @Dunderheided? X

Confusedmum74858 · 11/01/2026 20:03

I hated my Loaf sofas the second they arrived - but they took so long to come and were weeks later than the 6 weeks specified we were desperate and when they arrived I was disappointed but just so relieved to finally have sofas in our new house that I thought we’d warm up to them. They are NOTHING like the ones in the showroom - they have barely any puff and look saggy and horrible as soon as you sit on them. I’d never buy sofas from them again and I’d burn them if I could. The Vintage Sofa Co showroom is down the road from me and they’re next on my list for new sofas! They look lushhhhh

AliciaW · 11/01/2026 20:04

I think these are a little above the £2k budget but can recommend for quality and that sink in feeling!

I love my next sofa! Had it for 5 years and it still looks brand new, that's with 2 children who are constantly climbing all over it. We did have to wait 4 months for it to be delivered, but I would 100% do it again. Previously had a sofa from Dfs and the cushions were as flat as a pancake after 6 months, never again.

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 11/01/2026 20:56

Have a Loaf Truffle and it's squishy and comfortable.

Was reluctant but splurged after finding out a friend's comfy sofa was also from Loaf.

Don't think they do the Truffle anymore but it was a good buy.

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 11/01/2026 20:58

Has anyone used Bemz for non-ikea sofas and if any good please ?

MNLurker1345 · 11/01/2026 21:02

I am currently sitting on a green chesterfield leather sofa that I bought from Pilgrims Hospice charity shop for £300. Immaculate condition! My 2025 bargain.

Monvelo · 11/01/2026 21:05

I need this too!

I'm currently sat on the best armchair ever, I have 2, they came from furniture village in the 90s, my mum and dad split and mum took the armchairs, I nabbed them off her when I moved out and she's regretted it ever since! So perhaps I should look there for a sofa...

Theonlywayicanloveyou · 11/01/2026 21:07

Don’t be fooled by Loaf. We have a Loaf sofa and it’s the most uncomfortable thing imaginable.

i ask everyone where their sofa is from the comfiest seem to come from DFS

Oh really? Can you post a photo at all, please? Put me out of my sofa misery! The closest I’ve found is the Cotswold Company’s Wilson sofa

DoubleHardBastard · 11/01/2026 21:15

I haven't seen any that look like the one in your OP as it's not my type of sofa but Oak furniture land have great sofas.

Liverly · 11/01/2026 21:21

Tetras has a factory shop too and make this as their standard shape - or similar anyway
